I used the plugin for quite some time, and I would say it was great. But with an update a few weeks ago, all the data was not shown probably anymore, also it did not count the right way (when even GA is counting more, there IS something wrong). Then the makers said I should export the files and delete the plugin, then reinstall.
Now, everything is gone. The export feature exported almost nothing, the file seems to be broken, I can’t import it again. And for me the plugin is useless from now on, since it is still broken and the data is gone.

Independent Analytics strikes a very fine balance between providing adequate analytics for many site owners, simplicity, and script size.
It provides more details than the super simple Koko Analytics plugin, at circa the same script size, < 1kb. Other great tools like Matomo and Burst offer even more features out of the box, but that comes with a larger script size (~20 kb) and increased complexity.
Yes, there is upselling to the Pro version for campaigns, real-time traffic and more, but it’s subtle and really not intrusive; again striking a fine balance.
I sincerely appreciate speed, efficiency and privacy, and I hope that IA will continue to have focus on these areas in the years to come, as settling on an analytics plugin, is a long-term bet.

Version 2.8.8 installed. As a user, I expect that pressing the “delete button” to delete my data and entering “Delete all data” to confirm actually deletes all data.

Since Jetpack classified my site as commercial because I have AdSense on my site and make less than $1 a month they thought I could afford to pay over $100 a month for their Stats tool by disabling the free stats tool.
Thankfully after posting on Redditt’s r/WordPress asking for free alternatives it was suggested that I get Independent Analytics and I’m glad they did.
Independent Analytics has everything Jetpack does and more. All the free features are perfect for what I need, although it would be nice to see a feature that can track link clicks on my posts just to see what links are being clicked on like JP offered. But all in all, I’m very impressed with this plugin.
Looks visually appealing, easy to navigate and customize and the setup is as simple as a single click.
You snooze you loose Jetpack! Thanks to Independent Analytics I can still spy… errr.. I mean track my stats on my simple blog.

After trying out a whole range of different plugins and external solutions as a possible alternative to Google Analytics, we finally came across ‘independent analytics’. After a short while of use, it quickly became clear, that this plugin also beats some much more expensive solutions by far. It shows far more meaningful analyses than the competition. Of course, we also have potential wishes for the future development of the plugin. But for the moment, we don’t miss any serious overviews. In addition, it is GDPR compliant and does not affect the backend or frontend with negative speed losses. Recommended without compromise.

Many of my clients do not require the depth and breadth of GA4, and I have become increasingly concerned over the years about Google’s privacy and data-sharing issues. A fellow developer referred me to Independent Analytics, and I could not be more satisfied with the plugin, the data, and the lessened privacy concerns now that the site visitors’ data is not automatically shared with Google.

Google is an American company. However, Google was sanctioned in Europe for violating GDPR. GDPR does not matter which country a website is operated in. If a user is in Europe, they are subject to GDPR. Simply put, a European user searches for something on Google. Then they enter a site that uses Google Ads. There, the content that the European user searches for is displayed in Google Ads on that site. Screenshots of that, screenshots of the search history, can be evidence that can be used to sanction the site. It does not matter which country the site is operated in. Several European countries have issued provisional recommendations regarding the possibility of illegality of Google Analytics. The use of Google Analytics and Google Search Console may be subject to GDPR sanctions. In order to avoid GDPR sanctions, it is preferable to have only GDPR-compliant access analysis plugins installed on your website. Some access analysis plugins can display IP addresses depending on the settings. The use of such plugins may be suspected of obtaining IP addresses. In Independent Analytics, there is no setting that allows you to see IP addresses. The use of Independent Analytics means that site administrators cannot see the IP addresses of site visitors. Independent Analytics allows you to check the number of visitors by country and city. GDPR recommends that you ask for the visitor’s consent if you can check the number of visitors by country and city. Independent Analytics claims that no pop-ups are required. I think that opinions may differ depending on the interpretation of legal experts. Independent Analytics’ developers are very flexible and will respond immediately to inquiries. Therefore, it is clear that it will always be improved to a good plugin that complies with the law. If you want to consolidate your GDPR-compliant access analysis plugin and make compliance the pillar of your website, Independent Analytics is a recommended option. And Independent Analytics is also recommended for people who belong to countries outside of Europe. For example, in Japan, the revised Personal Information Protection Act was made stricter from April 2022, and the fine amount for individuals was increased from “less than 300,000 yen” to “less than 1 million yen” in Japanese yen. The fine amount for corporations was increased from “less than 1 million yen” to “less than 100 million yen” in Japanese yen. Therefore, laws to protect similar personal information are being developed in countries other than Europe as well. I think this is a global trend. Therefore, we recommend that site operators around the world, including in Europe, use GDPR-compliant Independent Analytics.
