“What were they thinking?“
I’m building a related site with WP 4.1, and I really miss it! I had to delete the “Whole Enchilada” JetPack plug-in: Even when I enabled only certain features (most important, the stats overview), it bloated the HTML code with disabled ones and dramatically slowed down performance.
Many thanks for your hard work on a superior plug-in, Anna

Slim Jetpack is way better. This just removes all the good modules in Jetpack by WordPress, and you still need to have Jetpack by WordPress installed.

Had I wanted Jetpak I would have used it. In order to use Jetpak Lite you now need to install Jetpak – while I appreciate the plugin the way it was the current format is not what I want.

I have really liked this plugin in, because Jetpack created issues on my blog, but I wanted the stats. It worked great, but the latest version requires installing the full Jetpack plugin, so what’s the point?

This is ridiculous. I also had an issue with the upgrade completely killing my site, and now “Jetpack Lite” requires the full Jetpack plugin to be running – which the whole point of the plugin was to not have to have the full Jetpack installed.
1 strike and you’re out. Uninstall Jetpack Lite before it breaks your site, you can enable only Stats in the full Jetpack without having this guy’s buggy code (and bad attitude) do it for you.
Really, you run a raw “if ( ! is_plugin_active( ‘jetpack/jetpack.php’ ) )” and completely break a site if they didn’t have Jetpack installed? (This was the code before the 3.0.1 update), and have the nerve to post “Your WordPress installation is your responsability not mine (SIC)” before the above code is found out? That’s ridiculous.

First I do want to give a heads-up on one thing. If you are using a version prior to 3.0, this plug-in needs to be updated to version 3.0.2 before activating Jetpack. If you don’t, Jetpack (v2.7 at the time) may fail to activate (it did for me with a fatal error) because it was trying to execute some Jetpack Lite code instead and was trying to include a file which didn’t exist.
Anyway, after I updated Jetpack-Lite to 3.0.2, I was able to then activate Jetpack without any problems. The only visible modules in the Jetpack screen are the Stats and WP.ME modules and my blog’s performance is the same as before.

Well I am glad I read the changelog before upgrading, since this plugin is now useless in that it requires me to install regular Jetpack to make it work. What is the point of that?
Might as well just use Jetpack, NOT use this plugin and disable all the bloatware manually.
Good job on ruining a good thing.

New version update 3.0.1 solved the problem of crashing website.
(New version 3.0.0 crashes website. Had to remove it with Filezilla. Hope the author can fix it and takes the crash problems serious.)

New Review (January 13, 2014 – after 3.0.2 release):
Finally, after 40+ back and forths on the support forum the plugin developer has come to his senses to add a failsafe to the plugin instead of just letting sites fall apart if the main Jetpack plugin has not been installed.
We will probably always wonder why Samuel decided to change the original plugin from standalone to an extension of Jetpack (which now has to be installed too), but he is the developer of the plugin, so he can do with it what he wants and believes is best. If you don’t like that, then you should develop your own plugin!
I am a person who didn’t like it and instead of re-inventing the wheel, I have decided to fork Samuel’s 2.3.4.1 version (not depending on Jetpack) to ensure future development: SO Jetpack Stats Only.
I also have re-adjusted my star rating to two stars: “Works”.
Disclaimer:
The comments below my review reflect the change from 5 star to 1 star in the weekend of January 11, 2014
Adjusted Review (January 11, 2014 – after 3.0 release):
update to 3.0 crashed my sites, cannot access admin anymore, Fatal Errors all around!
Downloading the error file points to Jetpack Lite and browsing though the changelog shows that now all of a sudden Jetpack itself should be installed too (!!!)
You might have added an update notice to make people aware and not just kill sites if they don’t have Jetpack installed. With more than 40K downloads it is your duty to inform your users when you make such dramatic changes to your plugin!
I though that the whole point of your plugin was not to have Jetpack installed? By now making it an Addon, I am seriously asking myself why I would want your plugin? How do I know what kind of impact Jetpack has on my site?
Bad practice this is and I therefore have adjusted my previous 5-star rating.
Original review for WP 3.5.1 and older version of Jetpack Lite:
]]>great simplified version of Jetpack!
I only want the Stats and this little gem solves it all!
Where the original Jetpack is
doing_it_wrong(!!!)
, Jetpack Lite lets you actually activate the module(s) you want, not turning it on by default.

All I really want is the WordPress.com stats and this plugin is perfect!

Make a simple mistake, pay for it with RTFM-style support trolling. Why not just use Google Analytics and spare yourself the trouble?
