404 Not Found for downloadable products

I have been trying to fix a problem with downloadable products that appears to stem from using AWS S3 for storage of those files. The downloads have been working without using S3. But after much trial and error today, including installing the WooComm Amazon S3 extension, now my client’s download links all go to a 404 Not Found page. Yikes.
I can see the files both in the S3 bucket. Still getting 404 Not Found even when I put the files in the site directory itself. I deactivated the S3 WooComm plugin and tried restoring a backup from a couple of days ago and saving Permalinks.
Anyone? ??

Hi @jess888,
Typically, 404 errors are sent from the webserver to the web browser when the content has been removed, moved to another URL or the URL is incorrect. You can read more here.
Can you check if the File URL in the Edit Product page points to the correct download?

Thanks for sending over your System Status Report.
To be sure the issue does not originate from a conflict with your theme or one of your active plugins, let’s make a test purchase after changing the theme to the default Storefront and deactivating all plugins except WooCommerce.
Since you also have server-side caching and must-use plugins enabled on your host, it would be a good idea to get in touch with your host’s support and temporarily disable them.
Testing the file URL and changing the download settings could also help. Check out this thread for pointers:

Tried all those to no avail and then I changed the download settings and changed them back. The 404 error is now gone.
I’m back to my original problem of “File Not Found. Go to Shop” but at least the Insecure download method works again. Thanks again, Mirko.

Glad to hear that changing the download method helped! The “File not found Go to shop” error is usually caused by the X-Accel-Redirect/X-Sendfile method not being installed on the server or not properly working as we discussed on the other thread.
