Works fine to divide your website with main cat as an subdomain.
Just a bit unclear about the steps of setting up a wildcard.
Also, the default wp searchbar is not working at subdomain, while without subdomain is OK.

But if Child Categories > Change to Categories in Subdomain

if you want to install wordpress in subdomain, no need to create another wordpress or even install Multisite, just using this plugin, light and powerfull and worked with related plugins
