I’ve searched for days to find a plugin that does two things – lets me use a custom template stored in the theme directory so that it’s not overwritten with updates and allows me to set a custom login page to be excluded from the maintenance mode.
This satisfies both those requirements and does it wonderfully. The first it does with a custom 503.php page (which fits in nicely with my 404 and other error pages) and a basic text box in the back end where I can write in my excluded pages. It’s just perfect. And it works. Really, what more can you ask for.

Works perfectly thanks! I uploaded my content then noticed I had a pile of notes written to myself throughout the entire site… hmm time for bed!

I just needed it for about an hour while swapping out a theme. It worked perfectly.
I tried another plugin but uninstalled it when I couldn’t get it to work. This one was really easy to set up.

Hello,
As owner of web & print media bus – I absolutely LOVE this plugin.
However, I note it has not had an update in over 2 years???
Please up-date.
I find it awesome; fully responsive/mobile compatible and still works well, with latest version of WP 3.6
Best regards.

I have been using this plugin for almost a year and it STILL works flawlessly – love that I can put my own message on my Maintenance page and it’s easy as clicking one box to enable… Perfect!

It may not have been updated in forever, but it is still the easiest way to pull your site down for temporary maintenance that I know of.
