Maybe it not compatible with latest WP version.

This plugin was nice and simple when it was working. But, it is still not working with WordPress 4.4 thru 4.5.
After two years with no updates. It’s safe to say this plugin is dead.

I used this plug-in in earlier WP versions, but in my most recent project with WP 4.4 it did not rename the files anymore. Before it was my preferred media renaming plug-in, although there were some usability issues.

I’m on the latest version of WordPress at the time of writing (V 4.3.1) and this plugin still works perfectly.
Be sure to check the screenshot of the instructions.

Very good plugin.

I entered new name, click “Update” – nothing happened.

Instead of this plugin I manually changed the titles of my media (relatively quick, if you start from the thumbnails list, click on the first item and go from one to another with the arrows)
Then I used Media File Renamer (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/media-file-renamer/) which change your file name based on the title. It also update the links between your library and posts.

Had difficulties with another file renaming plug in (days of backwards and forwards emailing… and it cost money!) that would not allow me to individually rename files but this one was not only free but worked instantly!!
VERSION 3.2.3

I wanted a facility to rename titles and filenames (GUIDs) by filtering through Media Library. I use a plugin called Media Search to search by which page the image is attached.
This plugin by default renames your titles to make them ‘look nice’ (ie remove underscores and spaces), but if you wanted to have the titles unaltered you can simply change one of the lines in the php file. See Support post ‘Unable to rename exactly the way I want it’.
Also, you can change the underlying filenames by referring to the post, ‘GUID not updated’. But strongly suggest that your original image filenames are unique throughout your website.
I tend to use Total Commander to rename files before uploading.

It does change the file name in the dashboard, etc..but it doesn’t change the file name internally. For example, although it shows the name has been changed in the media..if someone shares or pins a post, the original file name still shows up.

I don’t know why I havent look for this earlier. it is so handy!

After several other plugins tested… this one worked as aspected!

Bulk rename made it much faster than doing 1 image at a time.

This nice tool reqs a high resolution screen, on my 1280×800 laptop doesn’t display all the columns properly. There is no horizonal scroll bar on the bottom of the page. The plugin also not always alert the user if the new filename is not valid (ex. includes spaces) or when same identical new names entered for multiple selected image files.

I found this easier and more straight forward than other media rename plugins.

What more can you ask. Easy to use and it updated all the links throughout my site. It is so nice to see a tool that does its job well.
Kudos!

For SEO purposes this plugin is a must.
I had full control to rename the image file names and the title in the same time. And the beauty was that I renamed product images from WP-eCommerce plugin and it works flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Great little plugin (can’t believe this basic functionality isn’t part of the WordPress core)
I did have some trouble when I first installed it on WP3.6 when clicking Update on the edit media screen a little red box appeared next to the plugin’s filename field.
I did some digging and for whatever reason the ajax response was returning a CRLF before the success code. Not sure if this was wordpress doing this or the plugin itself.
Anyway, quick 1 line fix, in the class-media-rename.php file on line 107 simply insert ob_clean();
just before the echo
so the function becomes;
function ajax_rename() {
if (check_ajax_referer('media_rename', '_wpnonce', 0)) {
$retitle = $_REQUEST['type'] == 'rename_retitle';
ob_clean();
echo $this->do_rename($_REQUEST['post_id'], $_REQUEST['new_filename'], $retitle);
}
exit;
}
Hope it helps.
