Please update you plugin!
Media import is perfect!
Unfortunately, featured image attaching does not work!
Just a gentle reminder that all WordPress headings in admin screens have changed from H2 to H1 in version 4.3, way back in July 2015. Please change your heading structure so it’s semantically correct.
hi, i would like to ask how this plugin “Media Tools” can auto start to import featured image in post, and not manually. this is working only manually to me. so the futured post image isnt passed. please any idea, any function code? i have tryed now instead of “media tools”, another plugin, but it uses Default featured image.. see what i mean please https://news.rodos-island.gr/ . In 3 categories i use the Default featured image, the rest are fine from the rss feed import.
using this up import images from a conversion. its 1000+ posts with a ton images. i restarted it a few times and it gets further each time as it skips content already imported but im still only at 50%.
any ideas?
Hi to all,
i have migrated a site from wordpress.com to ,y own hosted server.
I used the standard exporte of wordpress, and i had to re-start teh importer many times to download and re-ipload oll of my images (2500), than i discovered the all of the images was not attached in the media library, then i discover your plugin.
Now i’m afraid that if iuse your plugin all of my images will be duplicated. I have all of my images in the media library, and the galleries insede post (with carousel and tiled gallery) work very well.
The only thing i need is ti scan all posts and then reattach with images. Is possible with your plugin?
Did you suggest me some soluztions?
Thanks very much!
Gabriele
Thank you for your great plugin.
I have issues importing such items:
https://iloapp.bawerk.net/blog/old?ShowFile&image=1373998687.png

If I understood right, the process is manual.
Is there something one can do to add the ability to use the plugin so as to auto import+set featured image automatically when a new post is published?
all the images being imported will only import at 300px wide.
The original images on the original site are all at least 2000px wide.
I’ve changed the settings in the Media tab of the new site to 1000px but all images are still being imported resized to small dimensions.
Anyone else have this problem or have an idea of what I might be doing wrong?
On a WP install with about 1400 images I ran both “Import External and Set Featured Image” and “Set Featured Image”. There were 6 errors (which I will ignore) for the first run and 0 errors for the 2nd run (“Set Featured Image” only).
Why would the featured images functionality be failing? Could it be because the original blog (from which I exported using the standard WP import) runs on mydomain.com while the development blog (to which I imported the posts) runs on temp.otherdomain.com?

Might there be an easy way to search and replace PDF links, and not just images? I have a ton of PDF links in hundreds of pages/posts that were copied and pasted by an inexperienced developer that I replaced. The links go to the old site where the PDFs currently are, and it turns out none link to PDFs in the media gallery in WordPress. This would save me hours of editing, so please let me know if there’s something that can be done, or if there’s another plugin you know of that would do the job. Please help!

Everytime I run this Plug-In to automatically set the featured image, the site crashes and it says “the connection to the server was reset”.
It takes a while before the site is back up again.
Apparently the Plug-In causes the server to overload….
What can I do?
I run the plugin on wp3.8 to import images from a site running on wp3.2.1. It imports only about half of all images and leaves the rest as they were. Since all the old image sources are publicly accessible, I guess the plugin needs some update to work well with wp3.8.
On wp3.7, it imports all images but some files are broken.

Post and Page processing can be filtered by category, author, date and status.
Can you enable the same filtering for custom post types?
Thank you…

First of all, thank you for the wonderful plugin.
I really wonder, is there any way I can set the “Import External and Set Featured Image” to automatically run daily for posts, perhaps using WordPress cron?

Hi.
I have just moved at site from old CMS to Wp.
I have over 100 pages that has image links from the old site.
They are all made as pages, and when i run the tool, none of the images in the pages are recognized.
eg: this one:
4 stjerner
Running import media tool
No external images found for 4 stjerner
Media tool complete (Post ID 20027) in 105,902 seconds. 0 errors
And some of the pages are taking forever (105 sec for 1 page).
In that page the content contains this:

Any idea of what is wrong?

Hi,
Thanks for this wonderful tool. Saved me lots of time.
Want to request a feature in future releases.
Please add an option to set a default image for “featured image” if no image is found on the post.
Thanks
I understood this plugin to go through all of your IMPORTED DATA on the New site and Search ALL Posts and Pages for Image information and then PULL and Populate all images to the NEW Site.
I can say….NOPE
Or did I mis-understand the intent of this plugin?
If I understood correctly as stated above, here was my procedure.
1) Used phpMyAdmin to EXPORT Old Site Data
2) Used phpMyAdmin to Replace and Import all data from backup
3) installed Media-Tools plugin on New Site
4) Ran Media-Tools for ALL images -3rd option, I believe for all
BEFORE (old site)
https://screencast.com/t/tyA2VKJ1iXMS
AFTER (on new site)
https://screencast.com/t/1n5gxDqLFX
I don’t see anything added to the Media Library and There are No images in any Post or Page.
Did I do something wrong or did I mis-understand the purpose and function of this plugin?
This works great for all the images attached to the post but it doesn’t download the featured image.
I’m using the Oxygen theme on WP 3.5.2 as the site I’m importing from, if that helps.
Is it possible to run this plugin on a per-post basis, instead of by category, author, date range, etc.?
Would really like to be able to selectively apply it to make sure it’s working for my needs before potentially letting it run amok over multiple posts and pages.
Hello. I really appreciate this plugin. It did exactly what it says it does. I am wondering if it is OK to now deactivate it since it processed all the featured images already.
I have so many plugins and I try to disable as many as possible hoping for a quicker site performance. What do you think of this idea? Thanks so much!
Plugin can’t deal with this kind of src:

I have been using this plugin for a few months and have found it great because I have a ton of posts from external sources with images. I can run this plugin and it sets the first image as the featured image automatically. For the past several days it has not operated properly.
I can select the category, month and it will run but it will not set any new posts images as featured. It only shows current posts that have a featured image already set. But then the next time I run the plugin it will work …
I have two clients that use this plugin as well and they are both also having problems with it.
Please advise if there is a solution to this problem. Thank you in advance!
I have posts which have a relative path to a local folder on the same server. However, the images haven’t been added to the gallery and there are no featured images set. How can I modify this plugin to allow me to use a relative path? Right now I’m gettin this error for every post “Upload Error: Could not upload image. Check for malformed img src url”
Dear Sir,
I am studying your code because I am trying to modify it to fit my needs. Some comments if I may, in order for me to know that I am in the right path.
On line 427 there is this line:
$file = media_sideload_image( $img, (int)$post->ID );
This line of code is executed when the option ‘Set Featured Images’ of the plugin is set. In most cases this means that the image sources that appear inside posts are not external but rather live in the same server as the post (namely they are not external). Under this assumption, the code normally it should extract the url from the post’s content and then do something like:
wp_insert_attachment($attachment, $file, $post_id);
wp_update_attachment_metadata( $id, wp_generate_attachment_metadata( $id, $file ) );
Instead in this case the media_sideload_image() function tries to re-upload the image back into the server and in many cases (for example if it tries in the same directory) it fails.
Maybe it should check if the image is local or external and then decide what to do.
What do you think ? Your feedback is important to me
Many thanks for your time

Hi, there – this is very nice plugin that save my time in works. I Really like this plugin – Thank you!.
This plugin works on many remote links website that I have try , but I found a problem when I try to save the remote image from the website with pattern like this:
https://static.allkpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/20130215_top10_abs-404×260.jpg
or
https://static.tokyohive.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/20130217_thepossible-600×465.jpg
The plugin says: it is success download the image.
When I check the results, yes it’s download the image, but the image just a blank image.
Can you please try to fix it? cause I really like this plugin.
Thanks Before, God Bless You ??
Hi,
I’m looking for a plugin that will generate the featured image even if post already has the featured image set.
Can this plugin do this?
if not, this could be a great option to have.
The reason is that when I moved the site to another hosting I lost images (I believe I’m not the only one:), therefore post featured images are assigned but there are no images (broken images), and most of the generators will skip those posts, assuming they are already set.
This can also happen when you change the WP to multisite, so the paths to the images become broken…
Cheers!
Great plugin!
It seems to work just fine, importing all the media files from a wordpress.com site to my self-hosted WP site. However, when I click a post, it’s still linking to the media files on the old wp.com site and not to the files in the media library.
I tried to erase all the the media files in phpmyadmin and running the tool again. But I get the message “Img already in media library. No external images found for A dad’s best friend, pt 1. Featured image already set”.
Despite the media library seenms to be empty.
The site is: https://www.martingrander.se/mobile
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
/Martin
