Is there a way to have the footnotes listed at the bottom link back to their locations within the text?
]]>My footnotes are now appearing inside the post, they would normally open when someone clicks on the footnote number, but now weirdly appear in the middle of the post. hoping there is a solution as i use this plugin widely across a number of sites and it’ll be mammoth to fix or change. I’ve attached screen shot below, i have excluded JavaScript from minification, etc etc
]]>I’m currently developing a blog and this plugin does a very nice job. However, how risky is it to use it? Will it be continued to be maintained in the future?
I don’t want to come to a position where this plugin becomes abandoned and having hundreds/thousands of articles that were build with it. ????
]]>When viewing pages, the title “Notes” does not appear.
It appears to be white on a white background.
How do I change this attribute?
Just noticed that after the latest WP update (6.6.2), the tooltip no longer pops on hover and the title for the footnotes list at the bottom of my page does show anymore!
Is there an update to this brilliant plugin coming out soon? Many thanks, Mike.
]]>Hallo . ty for great plugin but i need 1 more help . how to make tooltip go to bottom page ? i want use tooltip as external source link section

]]>Hi, is it possible to style the tooltip font-size, font-family and line-height?

Hi Sean! I hope that everything is well with you.
I finally am converting the notes on the bottom of posts from manual to the plugin, but in this site I think the font of the notes in the list is too small. Is there a way to make them a little bigger?
The other thing is that I’m using modern footnotes in three different sites, all of them updated to the newest version of wordpress, and have no problems at all. It’s only to inform you, maybe it helps to update the plugin!
best regards!
]]>When I use the modern footnotes inside a Lighweight Accordion unit that footnote/ref does not get added to the general ‘References and footnotes’ list at the bottom of my page. Ultimately, that wouldn’t be a problem for me. However, the numbering in the reference list gets out of sync (as it keeps its own +1 count I guess).
The presented numbering continues within the accordion inset. But I have noticed the keys of the mfn elements (data-mfn attribute) start at 1 inside the accordion. I suspect this causes the element doesn’t get picked up for the reference list. Or that something else in the html markup makes it impossible for the mfn to get picked up. I am not very familiar how the collection of [mfn] gets filtered out of the article content.
I can’t figure out how to solve this. Any thoughts?
PS. I like this plugin as it does exactly what I need and isn’t much of a distraction in the page.
I’m using the plugin on my website, and when there’s multiple footnotes on my post it works just fine, the problem is when there’s only 1 footnote the number is wrong inside the article and says [2] instead of one…
can anybody help me with this ?
]]>How is it possible to avoid a line break between the word before[mfn]…[/mfn] without blank space?
Resolved! This was a ?problem? in my editor where it breaks the line – while on webpage it doesn’t.
]]>Hi!
Love the plugin so far. I was wondering if there was way to make a given footnote on a page link to it’s corresponding reference and vice versa? I’m trying to make navigation easy between my footnotes scattered throughout my text and the big list of references at the bottom.
WordPress’ core footnotes do what I describe, but there’s no tooltip.
Apologies if this has been answered already.
Thanks!
]]>Updating to 1.4.18 caused search to break on my site; downgrading to 1.4.17 resolves the issue. It appears to be a conflict with Relevanssi, as deactivating that also resolves the issue.

In debugging this myself, it looks like what’s in $GLOBALS['post']
after Relevanssi is done with it is no longer an instance of WP_Post
, but rather a basic stdClass
, which causes modern_footnotes_get_post_scope_id()
to fail to set $global_post_id
to an integer, instead leaving it as a class.
Might be better to change the logic in modern_footnotes_get_post_scope_id()
to check if $global_post
is an integer first, then check if it’s a(ny) class having a property of ID
, rather than assuming it will always be either an integer or a WP_Post? (Honestly, I’d say Relevanssi should be doing a better job of making sure what’s in $GLOBALS['post']
is a post object, too….)
Hello,
First of all great plugin. An unexpected behaviour: on a longer page sometime I use a reference / citation more than once, literally copying /pasting the same reference to a different part of the page. In such cases I end up with duplicate references on the list.
It would be nice the plugin to detect such instances and consolidate duplicate references into a single entry on the reference list.
Here is an example about what I mean:
References list:
1. John Doe: A scientific paper, 2020
2, 4. Jane Doe: Another good paper, 2018
3. Max Doe: Yet another paper, 1997
In this case, papers 2 and 4 have been consolidated into one entry as they are the same, used twice on the page.
What do you think? Many thanks.

I currently use another plugin that works with [note], so our database is filled with lots of occurrences of that.
Is it possible to make Modern Footnotes work with [note] or really only with [mfn]?
Thank you!

]]>Ive occasionally met with an issue using MFN where the entire paragraph is wrapped in in anchor tag when I add and footnote. [mfn]…[/mfn] It is not consistent. For example, on the current page I am working on, the first footnote appears correctly, but the second footnote wraps the entire paragraph in the anchor tag. Ive checked to make sure I do not have any incorrectly formatted footnote tags and can confirm that this is not the case. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
]]>Hello.
When i add footnotes to my post it seems good but when i save the post all my footnotes are gone.
I guess it’s because I have a user without super admin privileges. I have another user with super admin privileges and he doesn’t have this problem

]]>Hi,
Is there an option to display the footnote list where we want on the page instead of the post bottom? We are using Elementor and would live to display the footnote list in a specific container. If this is not an option, what option could we call in PHP to display the list?
Hi guys, I use your plugin a lot and I love it.
Recently one of my other plugins (SEO Framework) got updated to PHP 8.1. Being still on a previous release on my website, I’ve got several critical errors about it. So I updated it to 8.1 and it solved the issue.
However, on 8.1 Modern Footnotes stopped to work. I can see the notes numbers but without styling and clicking on them nothing works.
Are you planning to make MF compatible with PHP 8.* in a near future?
Thanks and have a nice day.
]]>Hello,
Thank you for this lovely plugin! I do know that in the settings you are able to globally choose for Desktop footnotes to expand like Mobile. I was wondering if it’s at all possible with a custom class to have only specific footnotes expand on Desktop, but the default to still be the pop-up?
Also, I was wondering if you know whether the pop-up versions are screen-reader accessible?
Thank you!

]]>Hello,
This plugin is awesome and working fine.
I suggest adding a feature to your footnote plugin that allows users to click on the footnote label to jump to the corresponding footnote at the bottom of the post. This would make it much easier to navigate between the footnotes and the main text of the post.
Can you please add this feature to your plugin? This would be a great help.
Thanks,
Jay
Just started using modern footnotes to replace footnotes plug-in. Using the custom option as you suggested works perfectly thank you. However I am wondering if there is a way to make my footnotes (high are really reference notes) links. All my items between the shortcode brackets are links but modern Footnotes doesn’t seem to recognize them and so clicking on an item in the list of the bottom of the page does nothing.
Any help appreciated.
