This used to be a good plugin but not anymore. Looking at the support forum no questions get answered anymore either. So 2 stars for doing it’s job back in the day, but that’s it. Time to move on.

Clearly these guys have given up and gone home. Their plugin broke my site and it wasn’t that easy to bring it back. It gave me this error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected …. ‘ DO NOT USE!

I used this plugin happily for years. However, now it is death to my website. When uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, WordPress will not allow it to be actived because it triggers the following fatal error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘downloads’ (T_STRING), expecting ‘)’ in /home/customer/www/DOMAIN REMOVED/public_html/wp-content/plugins/my-custom-functions/inc/php/functional.php(103) : eval()’d code on line 32

This is great for adding PHP to your site without editing the functions.php file.
If you don’t know what you are doing when adding PHP or if you happen to make a mistake, you will crash your site. That is not the fault of the plugin. I would recommend everyone who uses this plugin to understand how to disable the plugin if you crash your site.

Would be nice if it gave validation of the code liek WP editor does

Ok so devs good job on the plugin but you need to step up your game!
Please include a free safe mode option that deactivates all code snippets.
I was also wondering after I nuked my site- I changed the plugin name and tried to reinstall MCF but it failed I was hoping it would install with the old code snippet deactivated, so I could edit it.
I had to use File Manger Plugin to delete the plugin.
Does MCF create a database table that I need to manually drop in php myadmin?
Renaming the plugin and deleting it does that remove everything from the plugin?

Using this plugin on dozens of websites and never had any problem. And if there is a problem it’s the PHP code that causes it.
If you use proper code snippets this is THE plugin to use instead of editing the functions.php. If you are not sure if the inserted code does work then do NOT insert is and surely do not provide this author with a bad rated review. Simple right? ??
Thanks big time for this great plugin!

If you’re handicapped neither install this nor leave a 1 star review to it.
This is always a handy plugin to have on minor sites where you don’t use a child theme.
thanks for this

I installed your plugin and immediately after, my website was totally hosed!

Broke my site.
Don’t touch this plugin if you don’t have access to the FTP. You are going to need the access to the FTP to fix the things that this plugin breaks.

I was afraid of installing and using this plugin, but it works exactly as it should: it adds PHP code to your template as if you were adding it to a custom functions.php file but without creating a child theme or taking the risk of your custom code getting removed by a future theme update. I think that the users saying that this plug-in broke their sites, added a bad PHP code. Please be aware that this plug-in is not for people that don’t know what they’re doing, is not just a plug-and-play, is a plug-and-code. If your code broke your site, it would certainly do so too if you have added it to the funcions.php file directly.

this is the most bad plugin i ever use .. this plugin make my site to much damage.

Great plugin, but…
If your PHP skill is not excellent, you can crash easily the whole site with a syntax error.
So, use it carefully!
My advise to the developer: at least try the running of PHP code somehow and warn the user if error occured. Is is absolutely not a safe plugin.

Very useful plugin and very easy to set

This plugin works for me, whereas the popular alternative plugin “Code Snippets” did not.
I wanted to add php code to functions file to hide specific categories from the sidebar widget.
I sourced the code from here:
Article by Ryadel
“WordPress – How to hide a Category from Front page, Archives, Feeds, Searches and Category Widget”
Many thanks! Now, I feel more comfortable to make php changes whenever I need.

A plugin that breaks your site – A dime a dozen
A plugin that won’t respond to the delete link – Priceless

Plugin works great, thanks a lot!

This plug-in works great until there’s some mistake in the code. That may very well take down the whole site, making it necessary to remove the plug-in from disk (ftp or whatever access you have). That’s some ultra-clear test failure of your code.
If you can identify where your code goes, then just clearing that would probably be sufficient. I don’t know where that is stored though and I see no clue in the supplied docs? I wish that was made clear both in the docs and in the GUI so you could just remove and try again. If you do this by hand in ‘functions.php’ then it’s easy to just make an edit and try again. This plug-in needs that ease. Unfortunately, I just had to move on.
Because the error handling is turned over to the server, I can’t recommend this on a production site. On your development server this might work fine tough, though the error handling needs to made more obvious so you can clear out the code ASAP when an error strikes.
Nice work, but proceed with caution!

Works great with Elementor and Astra/ other modern themes.
Makes it easy and fast to add custom functions without needing to make a child theme just for a few functions one wished to add.
For example, useful for making shortcodes to display today’s date, the year, month etc in post title, widgets, content body, meta…
Which can be super useful for certain SEO needs.
Can have issues if the theme is one with its set of custom function files, as the Sahifa theme, for example.
Great support from plugin author team.
Thanks guys for this great plugin!

I am no geek goddess, but the install seemed friendly enough. I put in the recommended code to remove the additional information tab and wham! Had to go into my c panel, find the plugin and turn it off. Once I got back into my admin panel, I tried to delete but it wont let me? Deletion failed: ParseError thrownsyntax error, unexpected end of file. Way to give an old girl a heart attack ??

I’m not a coder, but had some custom work done to for my site. For some reason the theme has been getting updates a lot recently and in both cases the custom .CSS & .PHP files get deleted within the child theme folder.
I want to try *something* and searched and found My Custom Functions. I gave it a shot (pasted my custom .PHP file contents into it) and it works! I did have to deleted a _DIR_ line from the functions.php file they added, but after that everything was great.
What to do about the .CSS additions? I copied that into my theme’s custom CSS box and that’s working as well. YES!!
I deleted the original custom .CSS & .PHP files very, and cleaned the cache before updating to check, and it’s working! Thanks guys for a great and very helpful plugin.
Regarding this guy’s review…RE: “This rating would be a 5 EXCEPT for the fact that they insist on adding Donate and Upgrade to Pro links in the plugin admin. Take that crap out of there.”
Please show some gratitude for a great plugin. If it’s worthwhile, it’s worth supporting. Not all of us expect everything for free.

I will use this on EVERY web site I do from now on. No more headaches with the functions.php file being overwritten when I change themes. No more worries about FTP backups of the functions.php file!
Clear and elegant method of disabling the customizations at will! Thank you so much! This is brilliant!

I use this plugin for dynamically displaying archive pages for custom taxonomies by calling my custom functions in the page templates. Works like a charm!
In addition, I’ve just had an issue when putting in some other code. It broke my WP admin panel (completely white page only).
I panicked for a second, but then found the solution to fix the issue here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/instruction-error/
You guys are awesome for implementing this! Just saved my ass!
I’ll be more careful now with the code that I add, but it’s very nice to know that you are always able to revert the settings even when the admin panel is broken.
Thanks!!
