]]>Hello,
I am interested in maintaining this code.
If you can give rights, i can push some urgent fixes.
Hi
I am trying to be able to allow users to choose certain categories for their subscription. The issue is that in the frontend settings in the admin the only ‘Default categories:’ available is ‘All’ which I cent untick which means there is no option to only use certain categories for users subscriptions.
If there is a way to solve this issue please let me know.
Thanks
Colin

This plugin match perfectly to my requirement of post notification on categories basis.

Hello all,
I fear of moving a site to the latest WP version because I am using post-notification.
Is there another plugin I can move to?
If so – how can I import my existing mailing list to it?
Thanks!
]]>Hi,
I using post notification Release 1.2.40
In the settings (and the email the subscriber receives) are just 2 categories shown.
Is there a way to let post notifications ‘rescan’ the categories?
add: I just found out that obviously post notifications uses the ‘most used’ categories which are shown in the menu configuration as most used.
please help.
Thanks Martin

I would like to know if the plugin has an option to inform the user that a confirmation email has been sent to his mailbox?
]]>When clicking on the confirmation link sent via email, I am taken to the post_notification_header page which still says “Registration Successful” and once again given the message that a confirmation link will be sent to my email and to click on it to choose categories. And then am sent another link via email which takes me back to the same thing, in a continuous loop.
The subscription does not get confirmed, the email address is not added, and I don’t get to choose categories.
Any ideas? I am using Twenty Twelve theme and WordPress 3.6.
Have tried this logged in and not logged in.
]]>I’ve tried all settings that were mentioned in regards to multiple post notifications being sent to subscribers, however for some reason, some of the notifications are going to random subscribers over 1000 times.
In a couple of cases, I disabled the plugin, which seemed to have stopped the mails being sent out. Once I re-enable the plugin, it takes a few minutes to turn back on, and then some users receive more (hundreds, thousands, etc).
Our host is no help, since it is on a shared server environment. I asked about mail queues to see if there is some sort of backlog of emails.
The worst part of all of this, is that it was working fine for months, and we even installed it on a different site which does not have any of the issues.
Unfortunatly I can’t afford another 1000 emails being sent out to customers, so I am abandoning this plugin, however if anyone has any advice, I would still like to try to troubleshoot it.
]]>HI,
I was wondering if anyone could help me some coding for the newsletter html template. I have the issue that the image displays to far from the header, not sure if this could be caused by any other plugins as it was mentioned within the plugin instructions.
I was hoping that someone could help me code the template the right way so my images in a post show below the header.
As of right now the spacing is about the same size as the image (see attachment)
]]>Hi
You can enter a title above the widget. Is it possible to translate the title above the widget (with WPML)?
I tried to accomplish it with widget logic.. but can’t add this widget twice and the text isn’t available in my WPML string translations

]]>PN has all my scheduled posts queued for sending, claims to have them arranged to be sent at the appropriate time, but will only send that day’s notification if I log in first.
I went to settings: And there is this paragraph under the “when to send” box: By default PN sends mails after the page has been rendered and sent to the user (shutdown). Some hosters kill all scripts after the connection has been closed. You can try sending mails before the page is rendered (header) or before creating the footer of the page (footer).
How do I get it to send without me as “the user” logging into the site? This paragraph shows that my complaint is valid, as it won’t send until AFTER I looked at the post on the screen. . . meaning the page was rendered and the email notification sent. I want the email to go out without a user having to visit the site first.
A second and possibly related question. . . when I set the post schedule for 6:00am, will that still go out at 6am or do I need to change it to 06:00am? Not sure if this would make a difference or not.
But I don’t want to get up at 6am to “look” at my post before the email goes out. . .

However, now when Post Notification sends out and email, it still is showing the previous admin email address as the sender. I have changed the email again, but still not showing new admin email in the Post Notification email.

The admin would set “daily hour” and “weekly day” or this could be set by default.
The email would be then sent out with all new posts from “categories” as a “group of posts”… with date or some custom details included…
Great plugin anyway!

The Readme.txt was not helpful.
The Readme2.txt was not helpful.
The installation instructions make sense, only in retrospect.
This widget is working nicely for me, but the instructions are not usable.
———
I am writing this only in case it might help someone else.
To get it to work, here’s what I did.
…install the plugin as normal.
After install, you need to provide a page that displays the subscription form to the user. This is a simple form that asks for the user’s email, and they need to click “OK”. The install instructions had lots of words about this, which, despite their numbers, brought little clarity as to what this thing was.
The page can be implemented in any .php module, but is most often a “WordPress Page” – that is to say a page configured from the admin backend in wordpress. The Post Notification admin panel has a checkbox pertaining to this, labelled appropriately. If you check it and click “Save”, then the PN plugin will create a page for you. This is probably what you want.
If you then view the page that the PN plugin created, you will see that it contains very little. It contains only template tokens, like @@post_notification_header and so on. These get replaced at runtime with the values you have configured in the PN Settings panel in the backend.
The PN plugin is driven by templates, in various languages. You select the language (==template directory) via a dropdown in the PN admin UI, then you get all those templates. The templates are used to provide the front-end user interaction. Things like the “Thank you for subscribing”, and “Are you sure you want to unsubscribe?” boilerplate are provided in template files, in various languages.
I could not find a way to view or edit the templates in the PN admin UI. Instead I used a text editor to examine and edit the template files, which reside in all the various language directories.
The plugin advises that if you edit templates, be sure to save them, because an upgrade to the plugin will destroy your edits. Be advised.
In addition to editing the templates by hand, I also hacked frontend.php in the plugin, because it displayed odd things when you disable category subscriptions. I wanted a simple email notification. The plugin allows users to subscribe to some or all categories on the blog, but also has an administrative setting that eliminates that option and makes it an all-or-none subscription. When doing that the “please subscribe me” form displayed by the plugin is nonsensical. There is an ineffectual radio selection, and the words on the button is “Save”, when … it ought to be “Confirm”. So I needed to hack frontend.php to make it do something reasonable.

With all that said, I recommend the plugin. It’s working for me.

]]>If I have a blog with single quotes in the title, e.g. “David’s Test Blog”, and create a post called “David’s Test Post”, the subject of the email sent out is “David’s Test Blog: David's Test Post”.
To fix this, I have made a change to the function post_notification_create_email() at line 20 of sendmail.php
Orginally there was
function post_notification_create_email($id, $template = ''){
$blogname = get_option('blogname');
Which I have changed to
function post_notification_create_email($id, $template = ''){
// The blogname option is escaped with esc_html on the way into the database in sanitize_option
// we want to reverse this for the plain text arena of emails.
$blogname = wp_specialchars_decode(get_option('blogname'), ENT_QUOTES);
I hope this helps someone,

]]>In version 1.2.39 of the Post Notification plugin, I found that on the settings screen (at /wp-admin/admin.php?page=post_notification/admin.php&action=settings) when I check Default categories (‘The categories which will be automatically selected when a user subscribes’) my selection was not displayed when I clicked the ‘save’ button and the page reloaded.
I think this is because the code between lines 701 and 704 of admin_settings.php is contained within short tags i.e.
<?
$selected_cats_list = get_option('post_notification_selected_cats');
$selected_cats = explode(',', $selected_cats_list);
?>
So my server (due to its configuration) did not parse those lines as php (instead they were just sent to the browser).
To fix this problem, just change line 701 to:
<?php
I hope this helps someone,
David
