This plugin changed the short description of my site without my permission, so in the tab browser, you will see the name of your site and next the slogan “Simple Book Publishing”.
Bad… very very bad way to win the confidence of the people.

Pressbooks is an outstanding plugin. If you’re looking to host a network of open-licensed texts, there’s literally no better solution. It does require a dedicated WP multi-site installation, so do a bit of reading in advance about what it is (and isn’t) and what it does (and doesn’t) do before installing or rating it, but this is a fantastic publishing tool with a ton of potential to make and host electronic books. Thanks Pressbooks developers!

If you’re looking for a digital book publishing platform and are comfortable with setting up a WordPress multi-site installation, then consider hosting your own PressBooks site. (And if you’re not sure, then try a free account to create a limited number of books at https://pressbooks.com).

Wow wow wow.
I got this working locally on my laptop running Kubuntu in under 24 hours just after first hearing about it and now I am well on my way to publishing 4 of my own books coming right off Word, PDF and Blog post files.
I am still having trouble with the setup of some of the export options, but this is a given as I am fiddling around with Apache and permissions, etc, but all in all, this was very easy to set up and get running.
More importantly, the output I have managed to assemble so far looks great and I feel my written work now has a new lease on life with PressBooks.
I will attempt to get good enough to offer this service to clients/authors – and in general as a longtime technical writer I am bowled over at the possibilities of integrating online and print/eBook workflows that PressBooks allows.
This solution just feels right – completely. Thanks Hugh!

PressBooks uses WordPress as a development framework and, as such, it is not a typical WordPress plugin. Rather, it is an organization that has made open source the code that runs PressBooks dot com.
What I mean is don’t be throwing this on your existing blog as if it was an extra piece of flair. It takes over the entire system.
Do install this if you are looking for a serious book publishing CMS.
Hope this helps.
