This has been abandoned many years ago, and causes unusual problems with WordPress 4.5 or newer.
For example, Widgets tab in the dashboard not working; unable to switch between text and visual modes
Give this a miss. Let us know if you find a good replacement

Visual/Edit tab not working on newer WordPress versions.
But you don’t need this plugin, you just need to add to your functions:
remove_filter( ‘the_content’, ‘wpautop’ );
remove_filter( ‘the_excerpt’, ‘wpautop’ );
If you use TinyMCE, maybe you want to disable wpautop there too.

Impossible to move to Visual Edit mode

God, I want this functionality (totally should be built in to WP), but with at least the current version, WP 4.5.2, with a page open to edit, I am unable to switch between the text & ‘visual’ editing windows. I am fine w/ editing in the code, but my clients?–No way!
This used to work great. Can’t be sure when the problem cropped up.
Please, please, please fix! Love you to death if you do.
& WordPress, this should be part of the core! Not having control of the insertion of p & br tags is a nightmare!!!

This plugin works perfectly for removing auto-formatting and faux paragraphs. The plugin hasn’t been updating in a long time and since WordPress version 4.3 it breaks the toggle between visual and text views in the WYSIWYG. It seems the author is no longer responsive.

I broke my head trying to figure out where did some of mine go after recent auto-update to 4.1.1. Didn’t know about wordpress auto formatting, whatever the purpose of it it, I don’t need it.
This plugin fixes it. Thanks!

Good plugin, and it works great up until 4.2.X.
Unfortunately after upgrading to 4.3 the “Visual” tab is not accessible anymore. You have to disable the plugin to get the Visual tab mode to work again.
Please update to support 4.3!
Thanks

Plugin interferes with the MCE editor with the most current WP update. The visual editor doesn’t allow me to toggle between Text and Visual. 5 Stars when working.

For some reason does not work on custom theme!?

I was delighted to find this as several plugins I’ve tried – to disable WordPress’ very annoying autop – didn’t work. However, I have a few hundred posts, and many of them lost their formatting once this was enabled. On a new site I might use this, but I don’t want to go back and reformat all those posts.

Switching from Visual Editor to HTML editor with this plugin introdues <p></p> on almost every line. Not working.

I worked very well with this plugin for a couple of years. I was initially a little bit confused because the English instructions are not very well written (for example the explanations under “batch processing”), but it worked perfectly in practice and allowed me to use HTML tags like
.
I was very grateful for this plugin but I have now had to deactivate it after upgrading to 4.4.1 as it was no longer working and resulted in disabling the visual view in in the WYSIWYG. That is really a pity.

I love the feature “Batch formatting to all articles that you have already posted”
Thanks!

Like spkane, I had a javascript program that WordPress was breaking by adding <p> tags to, that I could not stop. Installing this fine plugin resolved my problem. Excellent job!

PS Disable Auto Formatting let me isolate the page content I wanted to exclude from WP’s auto formatting. Worked great on two sites so far, and played nicely with a lot of other plugins.
It solved an important problem where auto formats were breaking a javascript app by inserting br and p tags around js links and default settings within pages. Love this plugin! Thanks for making the world a better place.
