I’ve been struggling all morning trying to work out how to add an image to a responsive theme that I bought. I’d practically given up hope that it would be possible.
I tried another plugin which suggested adding some custom css, which had no effect whatsoever. Then I tried this one, I just installed and activated it added the widget to the sidebar and added my image details – and hey presto, it worked.
Thank you to the developers.
BTW I used a ratio of 140 for an image that is 480×640 pixels full size. Might be helpful!

Thanks, author!
This plugin is handy because you don’t have to set up your own CSS media queries.
Additionally, there are no “trigger points” — it’s completely fluid throughout all device resolutions, at all device resolutions (e.g., not just 1140 px, then it changes at 780 px, etc., but it’s fluid throughout … 1139, 1138, 1137, etc. etc.).
As a bonus, it sits nicely as a background image instead of a topical image.

Sorry, only one insert image by the URL, and only one picture for all pages – this is not a plugin. I don’t know what is it.

I was a bit confused over the image height ratio but when I tried 140 the book cover graphic fitted close to perfectly. It’s a bit trial and error to work out the scaling but I guess if you did some calculations from the original you would get it right first time.
I tried the Image Widget plugin and it was a lot more fiddly..in fact I couldn’t get the image to scale correctly. Another option is included in the WP Jetpack, but haven’t checked that for scaling yet.
Responsive Image Widget is highly recommended from what I can see so far.

As the plugin’s author, I may have a blind spot, but… as far as I know, the plugin works.
Great for placing images when you know the dimensions you want, but need it to be responsively scaled and you don’t want to crop every image you place. I wrote it to save myself time and make image switch easier for clients (who don’t necessarily always have an editing program or the time to crop things.)
Let me know if you run into trouble in the support area. I’ll do my best to respond.
