Hi,
I activated the plugin and inserted
?

into the “Allow this characters (Symbols or characters accented as é ?) “no recommended”” box.
But I still get the “invalid characters” message when using ? ? ? in user names? Do anyone knows what I’m doing wrong here?
Best.

So instead of “This username is not allowed, choose another please.”, “Username must be at least %min% characters.”, and “Username may not be longer than %max% characters.”, it will now say “This username is invalid because it uses illegal characters. Please enter a valid username.”
Thank you for looking into this.
Hi, I’m having trouble with the plugin, I have just entered the special characters I want to restrict; However, the “Save” button does not appear for me to save the selected settings. There is a “Save” button on the “Error messages” tab, but if I move from “General settings” to “Error messages” the configurations from the first tab are not saved.
How do I save when the button is missing?
Hello, I tried the “Restrict Usernames Emails Characters V 4.0.2” plugin on my localhost site, and the “Not allow these emails domain” doesnt seem to be working. I have added 1 domain in each line to be blocked but it still allows/accepts that domain. Please help. I receive a lot of spam registrations.
Currently I am using whitelist/blacklist domains and it is working fine for blocking domains.
but with your plugin I get additional benefits of: Not allow spaces in usernames & Not allow use only numbers in the username

The plugin has been taken out of wordpress. Apparently, this is temporary pending review, but please could you let us know if it’s safe to keep the plugin installed or if we should remove it while it’s being reviewed?
Thanks.

Can I get some help getting this to work with https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/profilegrid-user-profiles-groups-and-communities/
It uses it’s own registration page so no matter what I tried the plugin won’t work and I can still register those forbidden usernames

A good and necessary plugin, but there is one problem. Works incorrectly with Nextend Social Login and Register plugin. Error messages in the username are not overridden (when the option to manually enter the username is enabled in the Nextend Social Login plugin). Default WordPress messages are displayed instead of these: wp-admin/options-general.php?page=restrict_usernames_emails_characters&tab=error_messages
Field code:
Username

Is it possible to override this?

We are occasionally getting reports from users trying to choose a normal username but getting error messages about having included characters that aren’t allowed.
It seems that they then have accidentally included a blank space in the beginning or the end of the username. Shouldn’t the name entered as username be trimmed?
Hello @benaceur, Please the plugin does not work at all on Multisite, I banned the username anything admin and my name, Yet I am still able to register with them.
When I was on a single website, it was working well, But when I started using the WordPress network, It not working.
This plugin looks like what I need, but I use Paid Memberships Pro and have customized theming on my login and registration pages.
So I ask if it works in such circumstances?
We activated this plugin in order to prevent users from creating usernames with . and @. And it seemed to work fine, but within an hour we received several cases where users were lockout due to too many login attempts.
We then discovered that the users locked out where trying to log on with a blank space at the end of their email address. For example they tried to log on with ‘[email protected] ‘ instead of ‘[email protected]’. They have never had this problem before. So this issue started when we activated this plugin.
So something changed in the acceptance at the login page when we activited this plugin. This is causing too much trouble for too many users so we had to inactivate the plugin again. ??
Unless this is changed we can’t use this plugin and I recommend anyone planning to use this plugin to be aware of this issue.
I cannot set a username with – or .
I did not disallow these characters but it keeps giving me the message that these are illegal characters. Can you advise? Thanks.
Hi, the plugin was working previously but now it lets anyone register.
The setting is ‘restrict everything except the following after @’ and it doesn’t restrict any emails. I can make an account with @gmail even though this is not an allowed domain.
I don’t know what to try because the settings look correct.
Many thanks for your suggestions.

I’m trying to use you plugin to block registration from certain email domains (like the temporary ones, e.g. disbox.org).
The plugin is active, but registration from such email still permitted, even if I specified the domain to be blocked in the proper setting (Not allow these emails domain – Restrict the following ). It seems the plugin is not working on this, can you help?

I battled this for hours trying to figure out what was wrong with server – if account is created with any version higher than 2.7.3 the user has no access to their profile account.
Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

Chased for hours, dumb database multiple times trying to find root cause, lost some users ??
