Hi Justin, plug-in seems to do what i need thus can you confirm or point out any issues to overcome?
Need Users to have available to them in front end a note taking system for a Financial based online learning site.
Users may progress toward different roles e.g. on purchase, so the notes need to permanently follow them through such role changes.
Ideally supporting a mix range of file types and pagination qualities perhaps.
Front end user role management will be by Ultimate member plug-in. Ideally, I want to create a tab in users area where they will have access to this tool.(so hoping for simple shortcode?)
Nice to haves: an ability to invoke the tool sitewide would be spectacular, but im not holding my breath.
Can this tool do these things for me?
Many thanks
Paul
I have this plugin installed and Sportspress Pro v1.9.10
In Sportspress, there is an option to add stuff like Players and Calendars to Posts directly from the text-editor. In the little pop-up wizard they provide, the first drop-down field is ALWAYS missing when I this plugin is activated.
This is the select that’s missing:
<select name=”id” id=”id” class=”postform “>
Any way to prevent this from happening?
]]>I thought that Topics would categorize Help Notes on the Contents Page but they do not appear to do so. Is there a way for Topics to show on the Contents Page and link to a subpage per Topic? Or at least to have Topics followed by indented notes, something like this:
Topic 1
If this is not possible, what is the purpose of Topics and how are they used to organize Help Notes?
]]>I’ve installed RBHN on a fresh installation of WP 4.3. My plugins are listed below. Under the Help Notes admin menu item, the entry for my roles have odd characters appended. It’s like the string containing the role name is unterminated. I think this problem started with version 1.6.2; I used 1.6.1 previously and it didn’t have this issue.
This is what displays: Builder<<< ??? Notes
Here’s a screen shot.
My plugin list: CYSTEME Finder 1.1, Easy Responsive Shortcodes 1.0.1, Paid Memberships Pro 1.8.5.6, Plugin Builder 1.0.0, Role Based Help Notes 1.6.2, User Role Editor 4.19.1, WP Support Plus 6.1.4.
]]>I installed and activate version 1.6.1 of Role Based Help Notes while logged in as admin. This was my only active plugin.
With the plugin active, none of my Pages and Posts were listed. Only after I checked User Role Editor on the Plug In Suggestions tab did my pages reappear.
This was rather disconcerting and nearly led to me uninstall the plugin as dysfunctional.

Reposting as this is a seperate problem, and I don’t want to further hijack the other thread.
I am having an issue using this plugin with the WP-Client plugin.. (link to the free version is here: WP-Client Plugin Page… I am using the PRO version)
I was having issues with the client hub/portal pages not displaying correctly or incompletely and upon testing all plugins on my site (by disabling them all), I discovered the cause was this plugin..
These two plugins have been playing well together until recently and I’m not completely sure what the conflict is.. I asked the WP-Client devs to look into the possible source of the conflict, and this is what they found:
]]>We see JS-error on HUB-page on your site from Role Based Help Notes plugin
We have both this plugin and Gravity forms installed on our site. Whenever conditional logic is enabled on any field on a form it stops displaying on the page.
Disabling the Role Based Help Notes plugin fixed the problem and the form displayed fine.
Not sure what the conflict is. There was no error, the form just didn’t display at all.
]]>Hi,
With Role Based Help Notes installed, bbPress will not activate and generates the following error:
Notice: bbp_setup_current_user was called incorrectly. The current user is being initialized without using $wp->init().
After turning off all my plugins, I found that ManageWP does not properly connect to any website with your plugin installed and activated. Managewp is able to install the ManageWP Worker plugin but for some reason does not recognize the correct version of the plugin. Would you be able to assist in resolving this issue? Thanks!
]]>Justin – First, thanks for the great plugin. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for (I spent hours searching and testing various ones).
Now, if I can only get it to work for everyone on my team. ??
I have set up several help notes as admin, but am having issues with my “Agent” roles who provide help desk support. They can’t see the help notes I created as admin nor post new ones. If they click on Add New, they get an error: “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
I have checked the Agent role in the Roles tab in Help Notes, and I have checked the right permissions with the User Role Editor in each user’s account.
What am I missing? Thanks for your help.

]]>I tried the following code in my theme’s functions.php file and I am not having any luck. Could use some help..
add_action('init', 'h_administrator_add_default_boxes');
function h_administrator_add_default_boxes() {
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('category', 'h_administrator');
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('post_tag', 'h_administrator');
}
What I am really looking for is a way to group notes.. I could use parent/child notes to “fake” groups, but this is not REALLY what I want.. I would like to be able to tag/categorize notes so I can sort or filter them..
]]>Hello,
Under your FAQ you state that help notes for custom user types can be made using this plugin in conjunction with User Role Editor, however despite activating all user types only General, Administrator and Keymaster appear,
Thanks,
James
I have created a new user role. Enable that user role under Setting -> Help Notes -> Roles -> my new role and Save changes. But how do I create a page or post that is only available to users in that new role. Am I missing something here?
I just need a simple private page or post for the specific group of users.
Thanks,
]]>If you’ve just upgraded to version 1.2.9.1 and the user-widget has disappeared from your sidebar…
The User Widget coding has been changed to fix conflicts.
Due to this you will need to re-place the widget in your sidebar again!
apologies for the work but it will resolve conflicts.
]]>This is a fantastic plugin. Out of the box, my Help Notes are using the standard blog post template. Can I create a different template for use in my (child) theme? If yes, what filename and other conventions do I need to follow to create/adapt a template that the Help Notes can use?
Thanks for your time.
Cheers,
Vernon
When looking at my BuddyDrive I should see a list of my files and folders I uploaded. When Role Based Help Notes is active, this list is replaced with the list of published Help Notes.
I hope this conflict be solved.
Hi Justin.
Great plugin. We’re using it in a BuddyPress site and the plugin is perfect for large user-base communities with custom roles. I imagine other BuddyPress communities might find this helpful too.
In our install, in plugins/bp-custom.php we have:
define('BP_ENABLE_ROOT_PROFILES', true );
The links in the Help Notes Users widget includes the author/ prefix which works in cases without the above constant defined. Any chance you can add a check for this constant and trim the author/ prefix if true? This would also make the plugin even more BuddyPress compatible in the process – a win-win situation.
Cheers,
Vernon
I have no need for a General group of notes adding to the existing clutter in the backend. Is there a way I can hide or remove the General category?
Thanks for a great plugin concept.
