I just loaded this plugin to restrict editing to certain people. This did the trick.
It is very simple to use for anyone that understands basic permissions… for those that don’t, it’s still easy to use (might be a tiny learning curve). Really believe this should be part of the WordPress Core!

WP 4.2.4 and the plugin works. I’m hesitant to use the new replacement after reading reviews and role scoper is all I need to give one subscriber one page to have edit capability.
It would be 5 stars if it was actively developed.

First, the need for this plugin is huge and I really want it to work. It has two strikes against it.
1) Most serious is that it screws up custom menus (which should not be a part of the plugin’s process at all). It will take content from one menu and add it to another, and the same in reverse. The testing I did to isolate the problem involved stripping everything out of my site, deactivating all plugins and then reactivating them one-by-one, testing the menus.
2) The plugin is overly complex, with interwoven configuration elements. There needs to be a “lite” version of this that allows you to (a) define a role, (b) assign capabilities to a role, (c) assign those capabilities to a user and then (d) assign a user to a page (or other element). You can do this with Role Scoper, but the UX is obtuse.

i must commend the plugin author for making such an extensive plugin. the ui may not be as presentable but it gets the job done. there are caveats to consider using the plugin. 1, it requires a pretty good amount of resources(memory).its not that ideal for those that are in shared hosting, running on multisite or using a wp firewall.2, the UI is extensive but also overwhelming most especially if you are on wordpress multisite

Took us hours to configure, only to find out that all posts which are not custom post type were invisible to non logged in users. Hence, the site was practically down for more than 2 days.
On a support query that I submitted in the developer’s website I go no timely response so I had to uninstall the plugin and search for a different solution.
The reason it got an additional star to the minimum 1 is because it supposed Custom Post Types.

Wow. This plugin is amazing for gaining fine level control over user access.
Using it on WP Multisite. It picked up all of my custom post types and taxonomies. I didn’t need any other role management plugins – this one does EVERYTHING you could possibly want.
I just can’t say enough about how good it is. The more I worked with it the more impressed I was.

I understand the hard work with free plugins and we are greatful. As a review I must say that this plugin is a mess to understand. No logic, compare to all other similar plugins out there.
And the graphics is like Windows frontend from 1997.
To work with roles and construct an architecture for your clients, burns a lot of braincells just to plan and “bake the cake” with a good user personal structure. This plugin makes it harder to even understand whats going on. You get totally lost.
I give it 2 stars, couse once you understand how this plugin handle roles and caps, post p post basis, attachments and front end views, IT WORKS technicly.
But in real life for the sake of user experiance, it will not work.

I didn’t expect at all. And Capability Manager, which manages CPT caps. And ability to allow assigning roles – this is a masterpiece. I’m blown away, really, just don’t know why it’s free, probably because there’s no any advertisment that could discribe all power of this plugin.
I don’t even know what could be added so that to motivate me to bye advanced version, though I definetly will think about it, just after a liitle more adopting all set of current features.

fantastic plugin to give controlled access to WP collaborators without possibility they mess up the whole construction.
Install the plugin on a test installation and trial & error to understand every possible setting.
