I love lots of things about Sensei LMS but there are some key features I think needs to be added to improve the UX and to add more for users. I really wish there was a more dedicated team to the project that can listen to the users and take on new features otherwise it will just be the case that people go to other LMS plugins.
So much potential here but I do wonder if anyone is bothered about making this the best LMS out there.

Sensei can do a lot for you, but if you’re no noob in building websites and really demand flexibility and free styling, it’s not as easy as they pretend it to be. It’s all possible, but you have to be a pitbull.

Flexible tool that allows full control over course management.

I’m testing Sensei for a client, the basic features are good for a beginner user.

I have used Sensei for almost a year now and I am very pleased with both their excellent support and the plugin itself, which fills my needs of an excellent LMS that can teach people in different ways.

I like the functionality but unless you simply accept the fact support considers ANY request for help changing the default colors as “beyond the scope of support” you’re never going to get along with it.
Sure there are “some” tools to help change colors but as of todays date there is no tool to change the ugly greenish color of the “Complete Lesson” or “Take Quiz” button or even change the color of the button text.
You’ll also notice the defacto, “it must be a conflict with your theme” excuse thrown around constantly. Frankly in my tests these issues exist in their theme too.
It doesn’t matter if using the free or paid version. The support is useless. Which makes this LMS an option only for those who are developers themselves and not teachers or educational businesses.
It doesn’t deserve the 1 star I gave it.

You should make this plugin compatible with Elementor and other builders asap. The included theme is ugly and not customizable, and if you should pay for a theme to use this, then you are in the themes business not in the LMS field.

Why on earth would they set this plugin up to be used with a 1-star wordpress feature, Guttenberg, so highly disliked by wordpress users? It makes it very tedious and time consuming to use, and also not user friendly at all.

I tried few weeks ago, Sensei and Learn Dash (premium version of both) and finally choose Sensei.
Both are very similar but Sensei has interactive blocks that make the difference. Sensei sell the interactive blocks alone, so I installed interactive blocks in LEarnDash and works very well but I ask me why I should pay more for Learn Dash ($199 plus $49 of interactive blocks) if Sensei is the same ($149), cheaper and has the interactive blocks.
I give to Sensei only 4 stars because don’t allow integration with forums of BBpress. Sensei has a intermediate solution with native comments but is not the same as a forum system.

Excellent plugin, good support and rave reviews. Also, it’s great that we can sell courses through WooCommerce (as we should, since they are both part of Automattic).
But…
The free version should work first, and be useful, and include support. THEN is a good time to ask for an upgrade to the paid version. If the free version doesn’t work or needs extra support, there is little incentive to upgrade. Happy users make happy customers. Asking to upgrade before any courses are made is premature.

Used Learndash, Learnpress, Lifter LMS etc… but this LMS stands out. code-quality is excellent! Love the automattic team!

I was looking forward to getting an own course to sell so that I’m able to taste Sensei.
Thank you for plugin, I enjoy with it.

Sensei is a great plugin to create and sell online courses in a simple way and all the improvements that it has been incorporating in recent years are incredible. Anyone who used it 1 year ago doesn’t know what they have now, because the volume of improvements and features is being incredible and it’s much appreciated

Ik really liked it. And we were able to convert our wpcourseware lessons to Sensei, how wonderfull. We nearly bought it for 3 sites.
There are a few buts:
– Lay-out not really attractive and not much possibilities to adjust.
– Lay-out of course catalogue is really hideous.
– Some translations are so bad, that we are afraid to send the messages to our student (Dutch language).
Of-course we can hire a developer to change it all, but after years of experience with other plugins we know everything can be solved, bit it takes a lot of time and energy and every year or so the same issues pop-up.
So, no Sensei. Pity. I liked it, its simple and the prices are good. But to many buts.

<p>The basic LMS actually works: Users can take courses.</p>
<p>But:</p>

When I thought about offering online courses, I had a lot of choices. One thing I knew: I wanted to integrate it into my website and not use an external platform.
At that point we already used WordPress, WooCommerce, as well as Woo Memberships and Woo Subscriptions.
I looked at Sensei, because it seemed like a good idea to go with another Automattic product – the same people behind WordPress and WooCommerce.
I’m glad we did, even if it didn’t seem to be a big priority for Automattic at that point. It was back in early 2017.
Lately the team behind Sensei LMS has been on fire – in a good way of course. They have implemented a lot of new useful features like interactive quizzes and learning mode. The transition to the block editor has been great and made several things easier to use. And they are working on more new features and improvements.
We use Sensei plus what is now called Sensei Pro. As far as I can see the free version already has a lot to offer.
I personally can only recommend to give it a try. And if you encounter a problem, let the Sensei people know. They have been super nice and responsive in my experience.

I have to give this one a 2. There are some great things about the plugin, otherwise it would have been a 0, but there are some terrible ones. No support for the “free” version even though I had to pay for WooCommerce paid courses. I have had to alter the code in the lessons module as I kept getting an array error for the quiz questions. Fortunately, I am a developer, so able to so that. Quiz settings don’t save correctly to the database, sometimes takes multiple attempts to have settings save correctly. Lastly, and worst of all is the use of the Gutenberg blocks.

This plug-in needs work. The teacher cannot communicate with learners and the learners can’t communicate with each other. The grading feature doesn’t work properly (says I need to grade quizzes I’ve already graded) and frankly there needs to be an option to not grade quizzes. I have post-graduate learners for whom there’s no correct answer to the gap fill questions I ask. The LMS doesn’t allow me to not provide an answer to questions. Also, lesson course media and featured images don’t display. I’d also like to be able to post announcements to the dashboard for things like live guest lectures and events or benefits they’ve earned based upon their participation or achievement levels. Because the plugin does none of this, I’ll have to find a developer to customize it or create a program from scratch that does what I want it to do.
The good parts are the easy connection with woocommerce, the content drip feature, and the clean learning mode screen. That’s why the plugin earned 3 stars.

We have tested many open-source LMS. For us, Sensei is the best compromise between simplicity and functionality.

I really want to give a positive review but I can’t so long as this error persists. I use up to date WP with Kadence, one of the most common themes. But Sensei is not working right.
WordPress – are you actively working on this? It would be terrific if you did maintain it. A native plugin to turn WordPress into an LMS is a worthy thing.
My issue: after updating module/lesson content the modules get duplicated multiple times and append the name of the instructor to the name. It makes no sense and looks ridiculous.
So your module url goes from “WordPress course” to “WordPress course (instructorname)” to “WordPress course (instructorname, instrcutorname).” It’s absolutely unworkable and sucks from an admin or user perspective.
Please fix and maintain this plugin. I will have to find something else at the moment.

Just downloaded the stable translation of pt_BR language and when active the course, lesson, quiz page stop working and the site always load the index.php from the theme.
It seem something is broke in the translation files that causes the wordpress loop not seeing the template files, and always load the site home/index.
I downloaded the .mo and .po from https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins/sensei-lms/stable/pt-br/default/
And moved the files to: [wordpress root]/wp-content/languages/plugins/

I know the dark mode in the WordPress default theme is pretty new, but nevertheless it seems that this plugin has some issues with it as text does disappear when dark mode is switched on.

I have a very complex site so I needed certain functionality especially with regards to course progress and grading that I just didnt find anywhere else.
I have tried
-Learnpress (I really tried to get this to work but in the end it was very buggy, quiz results dont get stored it says the student skipped questions when they didnt, theme conflicts so scrollbars go missing for example and content cant be viewed, gradebook is very good though)
-Learndash (too expensive and every feature extra has to to be paid for)
-Lifter (can’t remember why but I didnt like it, probably grading was part of pro which was too expensive)
-Tutor LMS (problems with gradebook)
-Masterstudy (great features marketed but couldnt get much to work no shortcodes given and no response from support so I didnt want to buy pro if support is that bad)
I also looked at Moodle, Edmodo, Canvas and Forma but I didn’t want a complicated install on a server I wanted something that integrated with wordpress without worrying about a seamless interface between UX and backend, auto updates and the other benefits of wordpress that I’ve come to love over the years.
When I first tested Sensei it fell short of my expectations but now it seems much more powerful and I am relieved to have found a system that works more or less how I need.
Future feature requests
-The gradebook should able to be seen by teachers on the frontend not only school admin on the backend. They should be able to see each class/course and their own students which they enrolled. Students should be able to enroll under a teacher as especially in English the courses are often all the same but each teacher presents the material.
-Zoom and Google Meet etc as paid integrations
Thanks Devs for a great product please continue working on it, there are a lot of LMS’s out there all battling for the next big market, you have something good here!

I’ve had a history of issues with this plugin, ranging from updates disabling my main course pages from showing to the ultimate problem a course seller could possibly have, which is having all the paid course contents exposed to the public! Suddenly, as I discovered, ALL my class contents were fully shown to the public internet! I don’t know how long it was going on until I discovered, which triggered my complete abandonment of this plugin forever!

Sensei offers all the essential functions to create courses. It’s a robust solution from the makers of WordPress that is not overloaded with functions; instead, the basics just work. Two examples:
(1) A great plus compared to other LMS: Sensei makes use of the full Gutenberg editor height to view the lesson content you are writing.
(2) The lessons, modules and courses are robustly connected and I have experienced no glitches (like random reordering of lessons that happend with “premium” LMS).
I’ve tried other paid LMS and come back to Sensei.
Sensei is now being developped continually. Course editing is more comfortable and the courses look great in the Twenty Twenty One theme. Since it’s been split in two solutions, the Sensei course software is free, you only pay a WooCommerce subscription if you want to put your courses behind a paywall. That’s ideal for ministries like mine who want to offer free courses.

Twice already an update breaks the main course page and remains that way until a bad review about it is posted. And then this review gets deleted! I wonder (not) why. I’m not going to renew my subscription to this plugin for these reasons alone.

Gracias
