The error thrown out is:
Fatal error: Array and string offset access syntax with curly braces is no longer supported in [PATH]/wp-content/plugins/shorten-url/core/utils.class.php on line 102 site:www.ads-software.com
Simply inactivating the plugin will also inactivate all the short urls you made. You will thus have to install a compatible alternative and recreate all the old short URLs.

We installed this plugin a while back, it hasn’t been updated since. I started looking into server performance issues and was shocked to see the errors this plugin causes.

This plugin is poorly optimized - it will slow down your server and browser page load unnecessarily.
There’s no reason to attempt to modify the content/excerpt if the “Automatic shorten links in article” option is disabled – this easily translates to hundreds of calls to function ‘replace_by_short_link’ (1 SQL query each) = SLOW SERVER. Also, a short link is created in the database for every page/post despite setting shortlink ‘types’ – this can easily create a very large database table unnecessarily.
If not making use of displaying the short URL automatically, does not stop the CSS style from being loaded into the page header = SLOWER PAGE LOAD.
The adding of a parent menu called “SL Plugins” is bloated and ugly.
Finally, you do not create an instance of your class (which is best coding practice) so that I can at least remove actions/filters for better performance. Giving this 2 stars until improved.

Thanks to author for this excelent plugin. Excelent plugin

doesn’t support custom post types and using another url.
Doesn’t fit my needs.

Easy to use, works quickly and efficiently and easy to set up new URLs. However you can’t create different short URLs for the same external sources so it is not suitable for monitoring advertising campaigns. Would have given it 5 stars but for this.

I am using Version 1.6.2, most recent at the time of my entry here.
The Plugin is damn easy to use. Simply install it via integrated WP feature or upload the plugin, aktivate and thats it.
Edit Settings and there is external Links. Paste your Link here and send, you get the result, thats it. You could even add a comment so you know where the link is, whats its purpose or whatever comes to mind.
Nothing fancy, not too much, exactly the way a plugin need to be!
I am more than happy with the Plugin, as i got rid of every bloated referal Links in moments and from now on it looks simply clean.

Plugin very complete, works with one click.
Thanks to the developer for the great work!

Excellent plugin! Will be even better if number of clicks could be reset and the shorten link could be customised with our own text. I hope an update could be available soon to include this feature. Thanks!

This plugin is perfect. I use it with a custom shortening domain + .htaccess redirect. LOVE THIS!!! THANKS! <3

Thanks for this great and simple plugin – works great ??

It seems to me that this plugin uses its own database to track the shortened links. So if you remove the plugin, all your links out in the world will no longer work.
I’d rather use a services such as bitly that I’m more comfortable knowing they’ll be around for a while.
There’s nothing “Wrong” with how this plugin works, thus why I’m giving it a medium star rating. And it’s basically how bitly will work. But I decided to use a plugin that integrates with their (bitly’s) services/database instead.

Thanks to this plugin I was able to implement a very quick and dirty redirection protocol into my site.

This’s a excellent plugin. But I found a problem when using SSL in my blog.
I notice all URL in this plugin are created by WP_PLUGIN_URL and the generated URLs are not start with https: when the protocol is that.
This issue make a warning in my browser when I using https://*.* as URL.

I’ve already used it
Was good
But the new version
Problems arose
So
I’ve replaced Shorn.It
I’m very satisfied
I suggest you do the same thing

I like this better than bit.ly because my links look legit, not iffy. People (especially me) are becoming more wary of clicking on links that have been shortened by sites like bit.ly. You can’t tell if you’re actually going to be taken to the advertised site or tricked into going somewhere else. With this shortener, it shows your web address in the link so people KNOW they’re going to your website. It even tells you how many times your link has been clicked on! Definitely a keeper!
