It appears possible to include custom post types by inserting a line line

Caveat; I don’t know if it breaks anything but seems to work for me and the logic seems relatively straightforward there. Thought maybe it will help someone else or post types to include could become an integrated option?

I really want to create a column inside a page for Similar “Stories from this author” All I need is a shortcode and I would be set? Is there one? Is there a work-around that works? @just0nequestion posted <?php similar_posts(); ?> about a year ago and it doesn’t work for me. I tried YARPP and it looks awesome but I can’t select author as a category (at least not that I could find, I would love to be wrong on that)

For some reason I can’t get the plugin to simply sort a list of related posts by descending order date. It only will arrange them by ascending order. So I will see the oldest post first and then the last post will be the newest one. I obviously want the order reversed, but can’t make the plugin do this.

In the Output tab section, under ‘Sort Output By’, I have the ‘Output Tag’ of ‘date’ with ‘Order’ -> ‘descending’ and ‘Case’ -> ‘case-insensitive’. Also strangely, it won’t work if I add the date tag as {date}.

Anyone have a similar issue? Everything else seems to work

I use Similar Posts version 3.1.4 I upgraded today from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.0 (my site is hispanicla.com and my host is Kinsta) and the went offline. I got an email from my provider and I coppy the errormessage they received:

As a lot of people have been asking what the short code for the similar posts plugin is… Here is a way to add the similar posts to your theme files and display the similar posts wherever you like ??

Just add this code to your theme files:
<?php similar_posts(); ?>

Or if you want to use it in a widget or to display within your post content you might use a plugin: do a websearch for “use php in widgets” or “use php in wordpress post”. You will find plenty.

The {image} tag is picking up the post’s first image – is there any way to pick up the featured image??

Hi, I think your plugin’s ability to weight by tag makes this my favourite tested plugin for related posts so far, however no images are showing for me. I’m getting titles, excerpts and tag meta but no images for those posts. Link is an example page.
I’d be willing to put time into custom styling the results, if only this returned images.
I’m using Divi theme and WordPress Version 5.4.2 btw.

Secondly, is there any way to add extra importance/weighting to tags within a certain tag group?
For instance, it is more important to me that tags relating to proximity are prioritised to tags relating to amenities. I can’t find any plugin that does this but yours seems sophisticated enough that it might be possible with tweaks.

This is an amazing plugin i love it but has some issues need to be solved.

ERROR:
When we use {imgsrc} or {image} it returns the image of the current post instead of the similar post.

When we use {imagesrc} or any tag it should return the image of the post we are reffering to, means it should be the image of the “Similar Post” .

I would like to show an image right with my excerpt. I am using

For the image i would add

However I need to grab the image only if there is one in the post. Otherwise I have code without function in my html.

Is there a solution for this with conditionally output (like documented here: https://rmarsh.com/plugins/post-options/ ), or maybe another solution?

Using WP Version 4.6.14
PHP version 7+
Followed screenshots for configuration, selected to show “match current posts category” and to display after the content, and no posts are being shown.
Regardless of the settings I choose no post displays after the post content.
When I select it to display after the post, the entire post disappears. When I turn this feature off, the post content reappears.

How can I get this plugin working?

Hi, I have installed the plugin on WP 5.1.1 and have been working for 2 hours with the settings, and I get no matching results at all. I’ve tried to tweak eveything, but it’s always ‘no matches found’. Show both pages and posts, match current post’s category/tag, filter set to include everything, a,b or a+b, set relative importance of tag to 90% (I want tags to be the most important source), recreated index, and any other setting I can see – and still not getting any match. Double checked that there are multiple posts with identical tag.

Any suggestions of what I might have overlooked?

Another peculiar thing is that when I move the widget to the very top of the right sidebar widget area, every other widget below it disappears! I have to move this widget down to the bottom of the widget sidebar. Putting this widget as no. 2 in the sidebar hides the widgets under it, but not the one above it. Although after a few minutes, this stops happening and all widgets display. I’m unsure if it’s something I do in the settings, or if it reverts back to normal automatically after a couple of minutes.

I have enabled categories for the custom post type, and within the Filter tab of Similar posts the category that contains the custom post type is shown, but no related posts are shown on the custom post type pages.
