I have started using this plugin last year, since then everything was fine from my end but users that were not logged in they couldn’t edit their comment. In august I have opened a ticket to DLX Plugin from the menu inside the plugin page, we had different troubleshooting sessions and Ronald found the issue that was fixed with version 3.0.30
I would like to thank for his support and congratulate for this awesome plugin that make us life more easy. I recommend this plugin to everyone!

Simple and very efficient.
Just only a question: I edited the .json file of the Spanish translation, but the texts modified there are not reflected when the plugin is run (The delete button, for example, keeps the text “Editar”, instead of “Borrar”).
Where’s the mistake?

I’ve wished there was a simple way for users to edit their comments just about as long as I’ve had a WordPress blog, but all the plug-ins I could find were way over-complicated (like replacing the entire comment system). This one on the other hand is just about perfect. The free version it does require users have accounts and log in, but other than that it does everything I could ask for.

The plugin works as advertised, but it’s editor shows HTML code, and not easy to edit comments.
And support appears almost non-existent. Those are the reasons for this 2-star rating.
I’ll be looking for an alternative – or maybe crafting my own.

After trying out different commenting plugins, I decided to ditch them all because of how bloated they were. The default WordPress comments are too basic though. However, with Simple Comment Editing, it becomes a little bit more powerful. And for that, kudos to the developer!

When it works, I’m really happy with what it offers and how it is coded. But it does not work if you have a theme or plugin which anonymizes the IPs of commenters before they are stored. I made a support request, and added to it myself 3 times, but the author never commented – even though I have supplied the one-line solution myself: Insert into simple-comment-editing.php as line 1095 (in plugin version 2.6.0) $comment_author_ip = apply_filters( 'pre_comment_user_ip', $comment_author_ip ); This runs the anonymize filter before using the IP values in the hash function. Then it all works. I provided the fix a couple of weeks before the version 2.6.0 was released, and so now I’m very disappointed and can’t understand why the fix did not make it into the new release. Will be very glad to amend my review if the fix is soon incorporated. Independently of all that, thanks to Ronald for providing and maintaining a great plugin!
Update: Ronald fixed this in the version released 2021-07-02 – many thanks!

After last update this plugin caused a fatal error on my site. I had to disable it via recovery mode since my site didn’t work in a normal mode.
WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Simple Comment Editing.

The plugin guidance does not tell the user how to proceed in the dashboard after installation. In other words, it is unusable.
Edit: Even if a WP plugin works ‘out of the box’ it should still create a menu in the admin dashboard. The plugin is very limited and is just a gimmick. The rating has been revised to 3 starts because the plugin’s author’s support is 5 stars.

I loved the author’s “Ajax Edit Comments” but it stopped working. This plugin’s extremely simple – no settings – and is up-to-date.

Avoid if using Comment Mail Pro plugin :
– First, it does not show : no possibility to modify after posting a comment within a certain time.
– Secondly, it breaks all following comments notifications.
Just sharing my bad experience with it, it might be fine.

Can you please ensure it returns the comment to the same “state” as before? Namely, a previously displayed image, attached with Comment Attachment plugin, appears as a link to the image and is not displayed any longer unless the page is reloaded. It is not critical since it further works fine, but it would be nice to have it working with existing attachments.
I do admit that the problem or its part may lie in the Comment Attachment plugin, however, I have not tested it with other plugins of this type, leaving it an open question.
