Hi
Has anyone adopted a good alternative plugin to Simple Links now it’s been removed? I’d like to know what plugin I can safely use to post friendly links to topical pieces I find on other people’s websites as part of a curated section on mine – Simple Links was ideal.
Thanks
Mark

What happens now? Has someone adopted this plugin? Is there an alternative to it?
]]>Hi there, since moving to gutenberg I can’t figure out how to embed my simple links. I used to click a simple link icon in the old wordpress. But now with blocks there is no simple link block. Also, how do I find out the number or code of any given category? Thank you!

Hi, can I modify title color by editing functions.php or with css??
Thanks

Here’s an image, showing the problem.
Anything you can say to point me in a good direction would be useful.

]]>Just trying to see if there is an option to say take 50 links and have them output into 2 columns of 25 links, etc.
Preferably a way to say maxwidth=90%, maxcount=25, maxcol=2, maxrows=2 and have it dump the links to a page, 25 per column, 2 columns wide and if it has any more it adds a second row to a maximum of 2 rows.
]]>Before I buy, I want to do a load of linkswaps and to do that succesfully I want to monitor the backlinks that are placed in the A-B-C trade.
Can this plugin do that?
]]>I installed the plugin in several of my WordPress installations. The problem I describe below is present in all blogs where I use the link list feature.
The import of existing links from the discontinued WordPress links list went fine, but I noticed that quite a few of my links are listed twice in the backend (but never on the same page).
If I delete a link, both instances of it are gone but only one of it shows up in the trash can. As soon if I restore it, it shows up twice again.
Since the link counter works correctly nevertheless, I looked closer and found out that double links are actually overriding other existing links, making them invisible (in the backend, not in the front end).
In other words: Some links are shown twice in the backend, some others not at all, the latter becoming visible when one of the “twin links” is deleted temporarily.
Would be glad if this glitch could be fixed in the next version… Thanks!

I can access some of a simple_link or simple_link_category records….but not the Web_address

]]>I have been building a website over the past several weeks and have been using the Simple Links plugin, a requirement of the client. It worked great until today when I updated WordPress to version 5.4. The shortcode for the links I have already added are still working fine, but I just moved on to a new category and cannot get it to show any of the links for that category. I have verified that the slug in the shortcode is correct, and if I swap out that category with one that was entered prior to the update, it works. I checked to be sure I am using the most updated version of your plugin, and it appears I am (v4.7.0). The shortcode I am using is [simple-links category=”newsletter”].
]]>Hi
Is there anyway that I can add a small (icon) bullet point at the beginning of each link?
It seems a very obvious thing to want to do but I can’t see how to do it in your documentation.

]]>In an older version of Simple Links, we were able to create a link directly to a file share (using a mapped drive letter). For example:
file://driveletter:\sharename\demo.pdf
After updating about 6 months ago, if we attempt to input the same info into a new link and click update the web address field clears. Existing links continue to work, but new links must be formatted as https://computername.domain.com/sharename/demo.pdf; otherwise, when we press update to save the link the field clears completely. We were okay with this as it worked and document opened as we wanted.
This was fine until our Windows fileserver died on the weekend. We built a new instance, named it the same name, and recreated all the necessary shares etc, but now it cannot open the https:// links. Just get the spinning circle and then it times out with ‘this site can’t be reached.’ err_connection_timed_out.
Any insight on the ‘blanking’ of the address field (or a method to get around it), or failing that what needs to be corrected so that the http works again without the error?
]]>I have categories defined for Agenda and Minutes, both show up in the category list and can be selected when creating a new Simple Link, but only the Minutes category is apparently registered.
I have 27 agenda in the list of Simple Links, all of them have Agenda category selected, but the Categories page shows 0 (zero) items for that category.
I have 29 Minutes links in the list and the Categories page shows 29 items.
I tried creating a new category and assigning it to all the Agenda items, that category also shows 0 items after everything is updated and refreshed.
I’m stumped as to what the cause or solution could be.
Hey guys, Any chance you create drop down menu for the links?
I love your Plugin so much,
Thank you

Is there a way to remove or hide the hyphen/dash character that displays between the link and the link description? Thank you!

]]>Hi,
This plugin is really great, I like it a lot but have a little issue with the layout. I use it as a widget in the footer of my theme as country selector with flags. The issue is the little block in front of the flag and that the flag and the link name are not correctly lined out.
Before I used WPML for agency and developers, but only for flags it’s a little overkill I guess.
See screenshots:

Questions.
> Minimum size of image
> Alignment image and link
> Remove the blcok in front of the image
When importing my old Blogroll links mostly everything gets carried over except the Image Address
fields of every post. Is that intentional?
Please advise if there is any way to truncate the description display (e.g. to 80 characters) and then let the user expand the description (e.g. using elipsis or “more…”). Thanks!

Would that be possible for you guys to implement? If not, is there a way I can change the number of links outside the preset 0-49 myself?

3) Anyway to include hits per link ?

When I reinstalled it, my links reappeared in the plugin, and I moved it back to the footer. However, previously my links were sorted by category. ]]>Hello,
I am using Custom Post Type UI for creating a special taxonomy.
Is there any possibility to combine a link created with simple link to a certain taxonomy.
For example I use the taxonomy “architects” and want to connect the url of certain architect to the architect tax.
Would it be working with an additional field filled with the same text than the taxonomy and than calling the link by the additional field filled with the taxonomy text?
See an example page here:
https://www.andrew-phelps.com/4-sided/gruene-mitte-linz/
at the bottom you will find the architect, next to it there should be the link.
thank you
