Since a week I get a notification from WordFence about Site Background Slider
“The Plugin “Site Background Slider” appears to be abandoned.”

My client loves the plugin and uses it for many years.
We really want to keep using the plugin.

The plugin isn’t updated in 2 or more years. Is the plugin still good? Can we keep using it? Of is it better to go look for another similar plugin?

I’m more than a little annoyed to say the least!

I can’t blame you, this is a free plugin, but I installed this plugin because I needed a background slider for my ajax paged site, but recently we got rid of the ajax feature, I had 3 background images about 120kb each that looped over around a 8 second period. After receiving 10s of 1000s of hits we got sent a penalty for exceeding our bandwidth, imagine my jaw when I realized my hosting provider was asking for ￡1000!!

Anyway, the hosting company says the problem is with the plugin it does not cache the images, it reloads the images each time!

Sort it out ASAP please.

I am not sure what is happening, partly because I have been staring at it too long. The problem I am having is the pictures are not showing in the background at all.

I also have the plugin pointing to back-slid which is the folder the pictures are in. The homepage url is set to http:/www.joplinmattrix.com/realestate

I am in the process of deactivating all plugins to double check and make sure none are conflicting.

i’m trying to setup the slider on my domain:

and after multiple try outs i reached the conclusion that it has conflict with wp simple galleries & my theme.

is there anyway we can fix this ?

the problem is that with both plugins activated and my theme, background images don’t work and my lightbox from wp simple galleries doens’t load.

Was just trying to use this plugin with the new WP theme Hueman. Any chance there are some kind of update to the plugin? It looks like your plugin has issues with themes that have background image options built into the theme admins.

When i resized my browser window to Portrait mode (i have high resolution monitor, and i don’t need to resize my browser in landscape mode) the background image stretch right by height, but cut by width (white bg appears at the right of screen).

This issue may not be so critical, IF the same problem appear on mobile devices. iPhone and iPad don’t display bg image properly – white background appears on right.

Please advice.

I installed the plugin this morning and I use the Photocrati theme. After installing the plugin, I’m seeing my blog as usual at first, and then in fades the photos one by one over all of the page including the blog. The images are not in the background, they’re ontop of everything. How can I fix this?

After installing plugin and setting up folder to pull pics from, it worked beautifully. Then 1 day later, it only presented pics sporadically and only on some browsers and devices.

The first day was a beautiful charm in every browser (safari, IE 8, Firefox, and Chrome) and on 3 different devices (computer, 2 android phones, and laptop)

I just installed this plugin, created a custom folder in my new 2011 child theme, uploaded one photo and it is working fine -looks fantastic and the overlay effects are quite nice! But there are a few changes I would like to make before proceeding with building my site and was hoping someone could give me some pointers on things.. before I start to muck around with settings etc. the questions I have are:

1. Is it possible to have one photo background that does not keep refreshing? -the top left corner has the time/arrows popping up and the image keeps fading in/out, both of which I would like removed if possible.

2. Is it possible to hide the source image file so that people cannot find/download it?

3. Are there any good tutorials on customizing 2011 to work with the Site Background Slider? -default view content area almost completely covers the background image so my goal is to resize/move the entire content area and alter the opacity so the background is somewhat visible.

My backgrounds are delicious at full size but they kill the site for mobile devices, because they’re just too big.

The site background slider could be easily made way more mobile friendly if it offers a metabox to filter background images through something like src.sencha.io.

That one is an image proxy service that factors in screen resolution and serves the image downsized for the device, or fullsize if this is not necessary.

It seems like this would be an easy functionality to add to Site background slider, because it only requires prepending https://src.sencha.io/ to the image url.

So the image url to use the proxy looks like this:

I’ve hacked my copy of the plugin so it appends this to the images, but it would be great to add the feature, as a form on the Site Background Slider Options page, for URL prefixes. It could be left as a text field so other services can be used.

I am not associated with that company, it’s just the only thing I found that will crunch down those background images to mobile size and serve them up on demand. It doesn’t reduce the images on desktop browsers, they get the prefix too but they are served full-size.

The sencha.io plugin for WP does not affect the background images on SBS. that’s why i had to try the hack.

On my production site, the overlay image is on top of everything in IE9. Obviously, this makes the site unusable as it prevents clickability anywhere. Any ideas on why? and how to solve?

I am using a cyberchimps theme: iFeature Pro.

We really like this plugin and want to keep it. However, today I discovered on IE8 (and presumably other IE versions) that as the pictures change, many of the container backgrounds ALSO go transparent. This includes widget backgrounds and page content backgrounds. Widget headers and some other backgrounds remain consistent. I checked on two separate machines. This ONLY happens on IE.

I am hoping for some insight here that will let me keep the site as designed.

Hi – i’m enjoying the plugin.

I’d like to use it to serve backgrounds for the mobile version of the site too, but the fullscreen images take too long to load and are inappropriately large for such a small screen.

It seems like if site background slider pulled tagged images from the WP Media Library, it could somehow take advantage of the various sizes in the media library to serve the appropriate size image based on the screen (body) dimension.

In any case, it seems that Site Background Slider would benefit from being able to retreive tagged images from the media library, and not to be dependent on a designated folder.

However, maybe you tried it and that query was too slow. I don’t know!

I already had this problem with the previous version of worpdress and I solved it by deleting some lines of code, but I can’t remember which.

The problem is with the background.
When the “beta resize” is off, it moves when I resize the window. To be as clear as possible, if I make the window smaller, the BG will become smaller to match the window (except that it will create blank sides because the ratio is not to good one).
And when I take back the window to its original size, the picture will keep the small size.

The goal here is to have a “normal” background, that doesnt move when I resize. But the plugin won’t let me do that and I can’t remember how I corrected it last time.

Hello, this plugin works like a charm. Created my custom template page and it works! But when I went back to edit the content of the template page itself, the plugin stops working. No rotation. Also, when I create a new page, select the template, the plugin doesn’t work too. It just shows a static page, no rotation. Help!

What I would like is the slider on the Homepage only.

The problem is that I created a custom template for the homepage so it’s not the themes default homepage. If I have the ‘Show Only on Home Page’ option checked it doesn’t appear on any page. If I have it unchecked it displays on all pages.

I really hope this can be fixed.
