Looks like it is outdated since 2022, are you still caring for this plug-in?
]]>Hi, I have a wpms network with many sites. Some of them does not use any contact form. Will the plugin also load a script for these cases too? Tks! ??
]]>Does this plugin stop spam on bbPress topics and replies forms? If I inspect the forms I see that there is a hidden input with id=”killer_value” but I don’t know how this work. I know that real users do not see the hidden input obviously and that spam bots yes because they try to fill the input but if I fill the value for that hidden input the plugin let me to create the topic or reply so that’s why I don’t know how is really working. Thank you!
]]>Have commenters with a hundred or more approved comments being shown a captcha. They’re each using the same name, email, and IP as all other approved comments. Using the WP Ajaxify Comments plugin to un-crapify the WP comment system a bit, and the captcha doesn’t play nice with that. Doesn’t show the captcha (GD installed and working fine), but the error message does. Not as big of a deal if it’s not spamming valid commenters, but it’s doing that as well.
Any way to disable the captcha system? I don’t mind going in the code, just don’t want to start poking around too much as I’m learning your structure. I’m assuming line 206 in class-spam-destroyer.php is the issue calling it, but reading that line I don’t see why. No reverse proxy or cloudflare or anything else getting in the way. Could be one of the eight or nine other checks after it.
Would be a big help if I could force the plugin to see me as spam to test it. General help is appreciated. Thanks.
]]>Hi,
Can this plugin stop spam blog post submissions from users.
Thanks,
]]>Several months ago, I had several sites that I support all start white screening. I disabled Spam Destroyer and they worked fine. Any chance you are going to do updates soon? I now have spam problems even with other plugins. Ugh. Help!
]]>I’m getting an error when using the “register” link at the top left of the page here:

After entering a username and email and submitting, I’m getting this error at the bottom of the form:

The form works fine when Spam Destroyer is deactivated.
I’ve got a course with thousands of students on Udemy, I’m showing them how to use this plugin. If this problem can’t be solved, I have to redo the video that shows my students how to install this plugin and recommend a new plugin which I would rather not. I like the simplicity of this plugin.
]]>Hey Ryan,
Thanks so much for developing this plugin, it looks really great!
After installing it, I was a bit shocked that there was no settings page for the user to be able to configure the plugin. For example, it would be great if I could:
1. Tune the difficulty for hashcash
2. Specify a question (input field) and a custom regex “answer” that’s correct
#1 is obvious. #2 would be great for thwarting people who write spam tools specifically to bypass this plugin. Giving the user the ability to set a specific additional question would require the spammer to design their tool to target their site specifically, which greatly increases the level of difficulty.
A simple example is what I use to protect my email address on my website. My question is simply: “what is my last name?” It’s a question that’s damn-easy to figure out for a human, and automated spammers would almost certainly fail it–making it a great additional step to the CAPTCHA. Example here:
* https://email.michaelaltfield.net
Note: I also ask for my first name in a div that’s float-left’ed by 9001 pixels. If that has any contents in it, they fail ??
What do you think about adding the ability for the user to require commenters to solve a user-defined input field? And fine-tune the hashcash difficulty?

Can you reproduce?

]]>Hi
Is this plugin compatible with Contact Form 7?
Are there any steps needed after installing the plugin?
Thanks
Dan
First off, there is no problem with GDPR and this plugin. The opposite! Since it works locally and without any remote connections, and despite of this it WORKS ?? – there should be really no concerns here.
Except …
Cookies are generally suspected of containing personal data. That is not the case here, but you have to explain to data protectionists and controllers what the cookie contains. But nobody can do that, if not a programmer … so maybe the plugin possibly lacks attraction for those who look for cookieless stuff.
I wonder if it’s possible to circumvent the usage of a cookie for simple time comparison only. What if defining a hidden field that contains an encrypted string with the timestamp? If it’s encrypted by using a site-specific constant + time() then it’s impossible for bots to reverse engineer.
So this would maybe provide much less head aches for people affected by the GDPR because it’s a no-brainer to say: this plugins works locally and without any cookies. And it works great ??
Maybe using: https://php.net/manual/en/function.openssl-encrypt.php
What do you think?

]]>Ahoy Ryan,
Just discovered this plugin o’ yours (been using the excellent Simple Colorbox for a while) – I’ve been using a different spam fighting option that I think may be having occasional disagreements with another plugin, so trying yours as an alternative.
I just installed it, so it hasn’t really had a ‘road test’ yet, but I see mentioned in several places that there should be both a “Settings” and “Clear Spam” option…no such thing is visible in my site.
I’ve tried different browsers just to be sure something odd wasn’t happening.
Am I missing something?
I installed this last night and woke up to the usual half-dozen new spam registrations. So I re-read your description, and it only mentions comments. So is this plugin designed only to stop spam comments, not spam registrations?
]]>Hello!
I’ve noticed that with the recent updates (not sure which), slashes started to appear in the comments when someone uses an apostrophe or a quotation mark. For example: It\’s instead of It’s.
When we reply, it works fine, at least when we reply from inside the Comments area in WordPress.
We deactivated the Spam Destroyer plugin, added a comment on a post, and it appeared properly, without any slashes. We reactivated it, added another comment, and the slashes started to appear again. Now the plugin is deactivated.
The bad news is that disabling it won’t make the slashed go away, so I guess we’ll have to edit the comments.
Any help/guidance in solving this issue will be much appreciated.
Here’s a link to a comment, if you’d like to see an example: https://themeskills.com/top-10-must-have-wordpress-plugins/#comment-1136
Thank you!

we installed this plugin and no one (even admin) is able to post any topic/reply on bbpress forum, errors just show “ERROR: Your topic cannot be empty. ” , but it is not empty

]]>I use this plugin on all of my sites. However, one of them still gets spammed all the time and I have to go in and delete the comments. Unfortunately it sends all my comments to spam so I have to view each and every comment to separate the real ones. What’s up?

Great plugin!!!! Thank you!
]]>Is it possible to add .htaccess blocking rules like we can in Cookies for Comments?
I actually already tried to do this but I discovered that the cookie string seems to change every now and then. Any possible support for this in a future version as blocking from htaccess really seems to reduce server load.
]]>Currently the error message reads:
Sorry, but our system has recognised you as a spammer. If you believe this to be an error, please contact us so that we can rectify the situation.
Which a false positive commenter pointed out isn’t the most friendly verbage.
While this string is translatable pot files aren’t provided. They’re not hard to make, it’s be nicer if this strong was filterable.
I forked the GH repo and would be happy to put in a PR for this.
]]>Great plugin!
The registration proccess is fine.
But if activate Spam Destroyer users can′t write bbpress topics.
“ERROR: Your reply cannot be empty.”
Last versions:
WP 3.8.1 (network multisite enabled)
buddyPress 1.9.2 (global instalation)
bbpress 2.5.3 Gral forum, not groups
Spam Destroyer 1.3.2 from Keil website
How could I fix it?
Thanks in advanced
Hi,
I’m experiencing problems with Spam destroyer and BP 1.9 (in two sites, with WordPress 3.7.1 and 3.8) in a multisite enviroment.
Context:
I have reproduced the problem activating only Buddypress and Spam destroyer so, if I’m not wrong, it is not related to compatibility issues with other plugins.
I have also used 2 different themes to discard issues related to theme compatibility.
Description:
If a registered user who is logged in wants to create a personal blog via the buddypress menu My sites >> Create a site! he/she will receive this php message:
Warning: extract() expects parameter 1 to be array, null given in [MY-WEBSITE-DIRECTORY]/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-template.php on line 1034
Fatal error: Call to a member function get_error_code() on a non-object in [MY-WEBSITE-DIRECTORY]/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-template.php on line 1036
Any idea?
Thank you,
]]>The link on the main plugin description page directs us to a site where we’re suppose to be able to download a beta that works with bbpress.
I’ve search through that site and am not seeing where I can download the beta version?
Would LOVE to see this working with bbpress!
Any new news on this? Is this plugin dead?
]]>Hi Ryan,
thanks for your wonderful plugin, I think it’s really good and important! Until now I did only some testings local so can’t say anything about the real results yet…
I experienced one problem:
Using BuddyPress 1.7-bleeding with bbPress 2.3-bleeding, enable on bbPress settings BuddyPress Group Forums: Posting inside of bbpress main forums works, but posting inside of a group forum doesn’t work – give’s the error: ERROR: Your topic cannot be empty.
When the plugin is network activated on WordPress 3.5.1 MS it breaks the back-end add new user functionality, the user is not added and brings up an empty red box with no message.
]]>Obviously a tiny minority report.
It appears to me that Spam Destroyer prevents the BP Groupblog Plugin from creating a group blog in a multi-site bp set-up.
Removing SD allows blog creation, Re-activating SD prevents blog creation.
I’d love a fix if possible !
Otherwise, I think it has reduced the spam signups and particularly spam blogs. Thanks.
]]>Thanks for this.
Not busy sites at all but was still getting about 10 a day with other plugins installed and adds to htaccess.
Since adding SD (didn’t remove any of the others) and updating no spam registrations last few days only a few comments on one site.
Obviously early days but I think its promising. Cheers !
]]>I′ve problems with multisite registration. Plugin did not work for signup. It just refresh the signup page and nothing happens.
Sometimes, when i try lets say 20 times, it works once. What could be wrong? Installation is clean and its only my demo/testing site.
Would be nice add it to my current site but its not possible now.
