Hi Todd,
I am trying to use an automation tool (getcomposer.org) to set up continuous integration for one of my client’s sites and they have your latest version of your plugin 2.2.6. Unfortunately for some reason the Trac URL for that version is malformed. It should be this:
https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/spam-free-wordpress/tags/2.2.6
But instead it is this:
https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/spam-free-wordpress/tags/2.2.6
It seems somehow a carriage return snuck into your README.txt or your plugin header .PHP file (not sure which one drives it.)
It is actually the case for all of your current tagged versions, so we can’t use your plugin with Composer unless you fix this. I know it is probably trivial to you, but it sure would be nice if you could fix this either by creating a new version 2.2.7 or fixing the URL for at least the latest version 2.2.6.
Thanks in advance.

I can’t make this bit of code disappear.

]]>Previously had Spam Free WordPress plugin installed on my WP 3.2.1. I recently disabled then deleted it due to a failed plugin upgrade (“folder not found”). After deleting the plugin, I noticed that all my pages now have a Custom Field titled “sfw_pwd” with different values for each. Is there a way to completely remove the SFW remnants that are haunting my WP site?
I know at least part of the answer to this is probably “upgrade to the latest WordPress” and I will at some point. However, right now I can’t go into the upgrade process. Any ideas?

I have a site in cakephp in the main domain and several 6 wordpress sites as sub-domains. Now I need to put some checking for unnecessary comments in those wordpress sites, where currently I have to check and delete those spam comments. I need some sort of automatic checking to do this on my behalf and I am ready to pay for it. I have checked the link “https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/spam-free-wordpress” and “https://www.toddlahman.com/shop/simple-comments/”. I am ready to buy it, if it serves my purpose. Moreover I need to know that should I have to purchase the license key individually for all the subdomains(6 wordpress sites)??? or only one license key will serve the purpose for all the subdomains???
Please let me know, I am eagerly waiting for your reply, pls reply asap.

Is something wrong with the plugin or was it changed to remove the features that made it work?

After I updated spam free wp to new version 2.2.1, I am unable to access my dashboard. It is giving me a blank page. How to troubleshoot this?

There is no support for Spam Free WordPress, but there is for Simple Comments.
Simple Comments provides bullet proof spam protection, a lot more features, support, and automatic updates.

I’m confused with the latest update. You site says
* Simple Comments is the official replacement for Spam Free WordPress.
Do we have to do anything or just click the Simple Comments provides nearly perfect spam protection! button and we are set.
On a separate note, it would have been much better to have the box automatically checked for us, since comments won’t work with out it checked.

]]>The license statement on this plugin is very confusing:
License: GPLv3
Intellectual Property rights reserved byTodd Lahman, LLC as allowed by law incude,
but are not limited to, the working concept, function, and behavior of this plugin,
the logical code structure and expression as written. All WordPress functions, objects, and
related items, remain the property of WordPress under GPLv3 license, and any WordPress core
functions and objects in this plugin operate under the GPLv3 license.
Does that mean it’s GPLv3? Or GPLv3 for some parts and not others (which seems very unlikely to be possible, given the GPLv3’s copyleft provisions…)?
Meanwhile, the plugin appearson www.ads-software.com… but the www.ads-software.com licensing policy suggests that all plugin code is GPLv2 or later:
The license under which the WordPress software is released is the GPLv2 (or later) […]
Part of this license outlines requirements for derivative works, such as plugins or themes. Derivatives of WordPress code inherit the GPL license. […]
There is some legal grey area regarding what is considered a derivative work, but we feel strongly that plugins and themes are derivative work and thus inherit the GPL license. […]
https://www.ads-software.com/about/license/
So, it seems like this plugin licensed under the GPLv3, as indicated by the “License: GPLv3” and by the WordPress GPLv2 (or later) license being subject to derivative works such as this plugin… correct?

https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/spam-free-wordpress/
]]>First off, I wold like to thank Todd Lahman for the development of this plugin. I sincerely mean that.
With that being said, I came here today to report 3 spam comments, that all inserted the same url, just as an fyi. But I now see that Todd requires registration on his professional site for support, and marks EVERY support request as resolved. I guess that makes the support section for this plugin here irrelevant.
If this area is not used as a place to deal with support request for this plugin, maybe it can be used to survey alternatives.

]]>Todd,
I would love to use the support forum you provide, however I can’t seem to log in, even though I created an account on your website and received the license key correctly via email yesterday.
The error message on your website says that it doesn’t recognize the username, I’m using the correct one however, tried the email address too, no such luck, even copied them from the account confirmation email, still no luck and no, I haven’t copied surrounding spaces… ??
I have a new translation for you if your interested and found some bugs too (and can provide you with the fixes which should be applied).
Hope to hear from you…

But all the settings are set as it is given above to set. ALso key is valid but still problem. How to solve it?

I have a lot of pings on my wordpress account. And i mean like thousands.

]]>Hey guys,
The spam free wordpress plugin works perfectly when W3 total cache is disabled but when I enable the caching plugin (with page cache, database cache and object cache set to disc – not enhanced) I always get the generic error stating this:
“Spam Free WordPress could not retrieve the password from the server. It may be necessary to do one, or all, of the following. Turn on the Old Password Fields option, turn off Nonce Security, or to turn on Generate Comment Form. Troubleshooting.”
I’ve got these settings the way it’s asked to configure in the error message, but that doesn’t work in combination with W3TC.
Any help would be appreciated…
