Hi,
When Subtitles is active it corrupts the Comments headers on my site, displaying the HTML as raw text. For example, a header that should say…
2 thoughts on Bell’s Theorem Blues
..instead says…
2 thoughts on “Bell’s Theorem Blues If we’re all so connected baby, how come I feel so alone? *”
See actual page: https://shrinkwrap.blog/bells-theorem-blues-loneliness/
Can this be remedied?
Thank you.
Hi Philip,
So glad to read in another thread that you intend to update Subtitles for WP 5+ compatibility. I’m wondering whether, in the meantime, you can recommend a workaround? Specifically…
I use subtitles on my posts that display on the…
– Post pages (eg Here: https://shrinkwrap.blog/polyvagal-theory-made-simple/)
– Home page excerpts (Here: https://shrinkwrap.blog/)
I just did a full update to WP 5.3.2. The post edit panel now offers me no way to enter a Subtitles subtitle for new posts.
However, all of my previous subtitles still display just fine (hooray), which implies there is a secret door somewhere ?? . Can you (or somebody) please recommend a compatible workaround for adding subtitles to new posts, while we wait for the Subtitles update?
Thanks.
I really liked this plugin. I didn’t have to do anything to nake it work. Now, because it has not been kept up to date, I’ve had to remove it (and lost all my subtitles) because my secutiy says an out of date plugin is a security risk.
Please, please say you’re going to bring this plugin up to date, so I can reinstall it.

Hi Phillip,
I hope you and your family are doing well! You’ve mentioned that you were prioritizing your availability and bandwidth for your family. (A great thing!)
I’m just wondering if you you could let us know whether or not an update is in the offing anytime soon. There are outstanding problems and compatibility issues with WP 5.0+. Also since it’s been a couple of years since there’s been an update, and security plugins are flagging your plugin as abandoned.
I hope that you will be providing an update soon, but if not, we would appreciate knowing that so that we can find alternatives.
Thanks!
Ken
Ive noticed that if you have any type of pagination the plugin fails to load in the subtitle. It displays the subtitles on the first set of posts, but after click any type of load more option subsequent posts are missing the subtitle.
Great plugin but it doesn’t work with the latest WP version because of the new blocks editor.
A simple solution that worked for me is to go back to the classic WP editor via official WP plugin, this one: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/classic-editor/
Hope this helps ??
Hello,
I was using this plugin successfully but now I no longer see a way to edit or add subtitles for my pages. When I try to edit a page, I am no longer served a “title” and “subtitle” field. Does the plugin still work with the updated wordpress?

5.0 introduces some drastic UI changes in the admin. The subtitle field no longer shows up by default. Will this plugin be updated to support that version?
Hello, and thanks for the plugin !
I’ve noticed i can’t use HTML (
, …) inside the subtitle field (it’s erased when you update your post), while the title field accepts it.
Is there a way to change that in the plugin code ?
Have a nice day,
Tom
Mr Moore, I just installed your plugin, and everything goes perfectly on my pages, with subtitles appearing just below titles… But subtitles don’t show on my articles… Here are the links…
https://monperecerobot.net/index.php/category/agenda-des-rencontres/ (for the page)
https://monperecerobot.net/index.php/2018/09/07/rencontre-inaugurale/ (for the article, not showing the subtitle)
Could you please tell me what I missed?
In advance, thank you
Hi,
I realise this ‘issue’ may be a little contrived. I read a post from 6 months ago regarding the OceanWP theme, and Hestia has the same issue in that the title call is different from the norm.
In the parent theme, I’ve found the title call in a buried file (hestia/inc/views/blog/class-hestia-individual-single-layout.php) and was able to display the subtitle by inserting the Template Tag below the call (below if statement at line 214), as per Github page. Now this would be fine except the modification will be overwritten when the parent theme is updated, and this isn’t a file that can be included in my child to override.
Please could I get a suggestion as to how I can proceed, if there is a way?
Of the several subtitle plugins, this is the one with the simplest documentation to get it working, albeit with a workaround at the moment.
Can’t get this working anywhere.
What else do I need to do besides add the URL to the subtitle at the top of the post or page?
What formats does it accept? Srt? VTT?
Other than “how to install” I find it hard to find info on how to get things working on an actual page or post.
Cheers,
Marjoline
I’ve tried all suggestions in the forum but the subtitle size wont change. I need it to be much bigger, I also need to align the title and subtitle to centre.
How an I resove these issues? Thank you
Hi there – I am not sure if this is a plugin issue or just a compatibility issue with Divi but I have recently seen that on mobile the subtitles get cut off and at some points only partial words are being shown. The link above is an example of that.
Let me know if you might have any thoughts.
Thank you,
Charles
I see 4.8.6 as the last version
thanks!
Hi there,
this plugin doesn’t work with the upcoming Gutenberg editor.
The reason is that Gutenberg doesn’t use hook ‘edit_form_after_title’.
Check details here: https://github.com/danielbachhuber/gutenberg-migration-guide#hooks
Hope you will rework the plugin to support the next default WordPress editor ??
Thanks!
Hello,
Thank you for the plugin. It works very well for me. I just have a problem : when I enter a subtitle on my post, microdata are showing at the very end of the page (whereas it does not appear when I do not enter any subtitle). Could you solve this problem please ?
Hi there – I have started to build out a website and was using the subtitles plugin for some pages. Everything was working fine until last night when all the subtitles disappeared on each of my blog posts.
For example the subtitles show up here: https://qak.nlj.mybluehost.me/itineraries/
But do not show up on the blog post itself below the title on top: https://qak.nlj.mybluehost.me/thailand-10-day-itinerary/
I am using Divi theme with a Fullwidth Post Title if that helps at all. I am not aware of anything I did differently before they disappeared.
Any help here is greatly appreciated!
Hi. The subtitles aren’t appearing in Category pages. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, I’m using subtitles with OceanWP Theme (https://nl.www.ads-software.com/themes/oceanwp) and Elementor (https://nl.www.ads-software.com/plugins/elementor).
The subtitles show up at the blog page, and the blog post, where OceanWP/Elementor handles them together as a H1 title split up in 2 classes:
– entry-title-primary
– entry-subtitle
I can even turn them on and off, which is great!
However, at my pages they don’t show up, or just the first part only, as a ‘page header’ class:
– page-header-title clr
I’ve read the FAQ, which says something like:
Subtitles relies on two things to work properly: 1) the_title being present in your theme and 2) the WordPress Loop. This plugin works by automatically filtering all appropriate post titles so that you are not put in the position of needing to open your theme files manually and using the custom template tags that are available in this plugin.
Some themes use titles outside of the standard WordPress Loop, which means that Subtitles won’t touch those. If you would like to use subtitles in a non-standard area of your site, outside of the Loop, then you can either change the views that are supported by the plugin or manually use the template tags that are available to you in this plugin.
Is there a way I can add title AND subtitle to my pages?
So the plugin works great on the home page, on the blog page…BUT the subtitle is too close to the main title on archive and category type pages. How do I get it to move down on JUST the archive and category pages?

Dear Philip / We Cobble,
First of all: thank you for your wonderful plugin!
I’ve recently started experimenting with uploading new posts to the site via CSV. In WP Ultimate CSV Importer Pro, many fields in the WordPress back-end are automatically shown so that you can map them to the values in the CSV file — but not the _subtitle field used to populate a post’s subtitle through your plugin.
Is there some way to change this? The helpful developer of WP Ultimate CSV Importer Pro suggests using the Advanced Custom Fields plugin to create a new custom field for this purpose. But I’m not much of a techie and was wondering if there is a simpler solution.
Thank you so much for helping me out.

On my travelblog (twenty seventeen theme) I really want to display the subtitle in the recent post widget in my sidebar. A bit like the date is showing now. (sorry it is in dutch)
I tried it with this in the widget
<?php $subtitle = get_the_subtitle($this->post->ID, ‘_subtitle’, true); ?>

<?php echo $subtitle;?>
But that didn’t work because it only took the subtitle from the first blog every time.Could you please help me?
Good afternoon Philip,
First of all, thank you for the excellent plugin you have created.
Now I’m going with the problem I’m having. Whenever a plugin makes a call to the title, it calls the subtitle as well. Would there be any way to make a call to the title without the subtitle going with it?
In other plugins I have solved it by adding a display: none. But this time I have not succeeded.
The plugin in question is Ultimate author box. I attached a link where you can see the problem. The plugin is at the end of the text, when you enter “Anteriores posts” you can see the problem.

Hopefully there is some way to fix it.
A big hug.
