Hi,
I’m trying to clean my thumbnails in a local development environment. After start an analysis of the thumbnail and get 7 GB of images, I decide to clean all of it. But, when I click the button “Delete X Thumbnails” I get this error
Fatal error: Uncaught ValueError: Path cannot be empty in /app/wordpress/wp-includes/media.php:5324 Stack trace: #0 /app/wordpress/wp-includes/media.php(5324): getimagesize('') #1 /app/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/image.php(960): wp_getimagesize(false) #2 /app/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/thumbnail-cleaner/classes/thumbnail-cleaner.php(196): file_is_valid_image(false) #3 /app/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/thumbnail-cleaner/classes/thumbnail-cleaner.php(261): Thumbnail_Cleaner->analyze(Array) #4 /app/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/thumbnail-cleaner/admin/thumbnail-cleaner.php(72): Thumbnail_Cleaner->clean_thumbnails() #5 /app/wordpress/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(308): thumbnail_cleaner_menu_page('') #6 /app/wordpress/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(332): WP_Hook->apply_filters('', Array) #7 /app/wordpress/wp-includes/plugin.php(517): WP_Hook->do_action(Array) #8 /app/wordpress/wp-admin/admin.php(259): do_action('tools_page_thum...') #9 /app/wordpress/wp-admin/tools.php(40): require_once('/app/wordpress/...') #10 {main} thrown in /app/wordpress/wp-includes/media.php on line 5324
How can I solve it?

I installed & activated the plug-ins “Regenerate Thumbnails” and “Thumbnail Cleaner”.
In WP Dashboard, I wWent to Thumbnail Cleaner.
Attempted backup of upload directory, per directions.
The backup screen never displayed a confirmation that it completed; the page stopped loading, but the main part of the page was just blank.
The backup file size is 250,216,850 bytes (250.2 MB on disk).
I ran a second backup; same symptoms. Size is 216,401,063 bytes (216.4 MB on disk).
I expanded one of them with Stuffit Expander; size of folder & subfolders is 253,178,701.
However, the original uploads directory is much larger, 9,218,523,111 bytes (9.28 GB on disk) for 28,631 items.
Good thing I didn’t run the program to delete thumbnails! (I read one user’s report that it also deleted original, non-thumbnail files.)
Wordpress site is on local development host, running under MAMP.
WP version: WordPress 5.4.1 running Customizr Pro theme.
Hi,
I also am only getting a blank space in the administration screen. Nothing seems to be happening. I have 24005 thumbnails that need to be deleted. Is there any other way to achieve this?
For instance, are these records in any file where we can delete them, and are we then still able to regenerate, providing we leave the then empty file intact?
Cheers, Marjoline
]]>Dear Friends
After Run plugin, attachments connections gone!!
They are not display in website, but display in media library!
please help me
When I ran Thumbnail Cleaner, it took out some original files. When I replaced the backup made with the plugin, one of them came back; the other was still gone.
The files taken out were named with dimensions in the original file. Could you tell me exactly what TC looks for to identify a thumbnail? Is it any 2 series of digits with a ‘x’ between? So if I name them *_2000-701.jpg, it won’t be identified as a thumbnail? Or if there are other characters after the dimensions, like *_2000x701cc.jpg?
Thanks
]]>I have 5200 media files.
After Analyze, the field Original Files display 0 files (0.00 MB).
Thumbnail Files 30201 files (3,608.49 MB)
Total File Size 3,608.49 MB
Why Original Files count are zero?
Hi,
I had used the thumbnail cleaner to delete all the thumbnails but not before backing up the original uploads folder.
I later regenerated the thumbnails but the media gallery showed blank placeholders. So I deleted it all over again and restored my originally backed up folder. But that too did not bring the media gallery images back. They still show up as blank placeholders whereas I can see the images are still there in the folder.
Please help.
Regards
]]>Hi,
I have less than 3,000 images including thumbnails. Nevertheless, when I press Analyse, the browser shows a blank page in admin panel after spinning the progress wheel for about 30 seconds. It looks like a timeout.
You should really force a backup first. I was under the impression this plugin would only clean my *unused* thumbnails, but instead it delete *all* of them. I didn’t backup and now all my originals are gone.
]]>Guys, some problems I’ve found with your plugin
1. it deleted not only thumbnails, but also some ORIGINAL FILES.
2. I looked at the backup you generated but not all original files/folders were there – like the ones I was missing. I’m glad I still had them somewhere else, so I could recover them.
3. After running your plugin, some images have just disappeared from the post. The weird thing is, when I go to the uploads folder, the image still exists. Not only that, I’ve tried to insert the same image again (with full size, trying to avoid any thumbnail problem) and now I see the alt text and when I click on it, the image opens up. but on the post itself I cannot see it!
I’ve tried regenerating thumbnails once again to check it the problem could be fixed with that but it doesn’t work.
Can you please take a look and check what solution can I have for this? It’s just weird because the image does exist!
Here’s one of the posts: https://holandesando.com/bloesempark-parque-cerejeiras/
the image that is not showing at the moment has the following alt text:
Tsunamimonument, homenagem às vítimas do Tsunami no Jap?o em 2011
Another post where I noticed the same: https://holandesando.com/carnaval-maastricht/
the alt text of the missing image is:
Freddie Mercury e David Bowie juntos no Carnaval!
Probably this is happening in other posts as well, but I didn’t have the time to check everything.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I find in your plugin folder fonts is “fontawesome-webfont.ttf”

]]>Hello!
I would like to report a problem I’m facing. After installing the plugin, I clicked the Start Analysing button and after, the following got reported:
Original files: 0 files (0.00 MB)
Thumbnail files: 19907 files (965.03 MB)
Total file size: 965.03 MB
I want to clear the thumbnails so I can backup only the original files, but after the analysis I’m a bit wary of continuing the process.
Is there something that can be done?
Thank you,
Arky
After some time indicating it works, weither analyzing or creating a backup, it just stops, leaving an empty page. No analysis result, and a backup clearly way smaller than the whole
Despite the absence of some kind of progress indicator (regenerate thumbnails has a handy tool), I’m quite sure it’s not intended.
Things which may have something to do with this :
The very large size of my library (a few thousand pictures with each several thumbnails)
Server not very powerful (though it handled regenerating thumbnails)
I’d really like this plugin to work to clean up my wordpress install ; however I won’t take the risk of launching regeneration if it fails to simply count how many thumbnails there are.

Thank you for the great plugin! One thing though:
The file font-awesome.min.css
which get’s enqueued in includes/hooks.php
on line 29 doesn’t exist, therefore a 404 is thrown.
I use Thumbnail Cleaner 1.1.0

Also, your instructions say, “Make sure the folder /cache/ in the plugin’s directory is writable (CHMOD 755).” However, there is no cache folder in the plugin’s directory.

But could you add an option for delete all thumbnails before certain date ?
That wiil help many wordpress sites with outdated not used images
