I’m used to working with Twig, but not so much with WordPress. Documentation is pretty limited and most tutorials are from around 2015. No active community around it. I managed to build a page with it, but ran into several limitations once it got a bit more complex. Then you need to write extra code in functions.php to address these (Woocommerce issues, global ACF fields). It also adds an extra layer of complexity with breaking changes, php compatibility issues. And I got pretty confused on where to address certain pages as templates in the Timber starter theme when normally you have the php files.
My conclusion is to first learn the basics of building your own theme with php and maybe then use twig/timber if you still think you need it to clean up your templates. As with many frameworks you need to understand the underlying technology to use it effectively.

I love wordpress but hate making themes by combining php and html together. Timber solves this issue but separating php logic and html templates. This plugin leverages wordpress development to a modern level. I can say for sure, that this is the most important plugin for me. Big thanks to Jared Novack + Upstatement team!

Thanks for this awesome plugin! I’m super glad that I’ve found it. Timber is the bridge between WordPress and Twig. Designing themes with Twig and Timber’s great support of most WordPress features is just a breeze.
Please keep developing this, maybe work on the translation feature (I can’t find a way to use gettext for __ calls that are inside HTML elements, for example in title="{{ __() " }}).
Timber Library is now a fundamental part of my WordPress development work, and I don’t want to miss it.

Timber provides what WordPress rendering (templating) should be. I look forward to the time when Timber ( or some other variant using Twig) is a standard in WordPress. It clearly separates the data generation from the rendering which too often is obscure and depends upon PHP rather than the underlying HTML.

Twig/Timber framework dumped on us by graphic designers. Server is constantly generating errors about ‘function_wrapper is deprecated and will be removed in 1.4’.
No documentation at all at twig.sensiolabs.org. No search on the page at twig.sensiolabs.org. Downloaded PDF, function_wrapper is not even documented.
Terrible framework for text-based maintenance too. Save me from the drag and drop geniuses.

Wordpress way of creating templates leads to messy, hard-to-read, hard-to-reuse and hard-to-maintain code. There are of course ways how to prevent it a bit, but this plugin solved the issue for me completely. Twig is a great templating engine by itself and Timber connects it nicely to WordPress with WordPress specific objects.
