Leave it to large companies to dump a plugin into the ecosystem, make a big marketing deal over it, and then abandon it. Happens all the time. But I wanted to give this one a shot anyway. Yup. It’s dead.
Where is that 0-Star button?

This plug-in was released but never received an update, so sadly it does not work anymore. You can search for pictures, but you can’t scroll through them. Can only choose the first 3 results.

Since the latest update of WordPress, this plug-in no longer appears to work properly: you can’t scroll down the images following a search, which means you can only pick from the top half dozen results. It’s an absolutely brilliant plug-in when it does work, but right now the functionality is limited.

Using Unsplash has been great and the integration with WordPress seemed like a dream come true. But it can seriously and negatively impact the performance of your website. Using plugins to compress images and generating webp types is a must-have feature for a quick and well performing website. Instead, this plugin loads the full source images into your page generating tremendous amounts of data traffic you don’t want. Especially magazine style pages with lots of images tremendously suffer in performance and speed.
Too bad! Un-installed it and speed is back.

Thanks for such a useful add-on.

It’s a great plugin allowing me to access beautiful imagery. They are very honest about their intent, and there is nothing suspicious about this plugin or Unsplash. I love being able to access some of the worlds most generous photographers with just a few clicks. The images you select to use on your WP site will come with the credit information for the photographer which makes it easier to link with love. I highly recommend the Unsplash plugin! Congrats to the Unsplash team on this plugin!

I really like the way unsplash works. The new media library tab is great, and I appreciate that the photo is being moved into my media library as well.
I’d prefer that I not *have* to log in to use the plugin. Would be good if it still worked without that. But it’s really great, everyone should try it.

I’ve used Unplash for a long time but now with the Unsplash plugin, life is so much easier! Thanks for making this!

I had been using unsplash.com for my print projects for a long time. With over 2 million free high-resolution images made available to you by the world’s most generous community of photographers, this plugin gives you access to a large library to easily insert stunning images that will accompany your blog news. . Thanks Unsplash team!

This is a must when designing quick landing or demo pages and I need to have a clear idea of how the page will look like with a real image and not a url/placeholder.

The more I read about the CDN being used in the plugin (which they don’t want switched off), the more worried I’ve become of any longer term impact to any images I use.
I’ve switched to another plugin which works just as well but without any obvious “extras”.

So easy to use, and allows very easily to give credit to those who deserve it.
Haven’t found a way/shortcode to get a list of illustrations on a dedicated page. Maybe that’s possible in V1.1

To empower your post or your page’s content, it’s incredible to use direct load from unsplash website. All are free to use, and improve the visual impression of your reader. Thanks a billions !

I really love this plugin. Searching and inserting images is easy. Speed is very good.
One thing I miss is integration with the Media Library, I cannot add an image from there (please guys, add a tab ??

PROS: I’ve been using Unsplash images for years. This plugin allows you to add Unsplash images easily to your media library – just like any other image, you would add. The best part is how easy it is to browse right in the WordPress dashboard. Easy peasy.
CONS: You should have the option to serve images from the Unsplash CDN or from your media library without hot-linking. It should serve from your media library by default unless you choose otherwise.

Quite simply adds images without needing to strap on a cumbersome pack or board a rocket into the corporatocracy.

Works great, when adding images to a blog post on the fly.
Five stars, when you can select the image size before downloading, like it’s possible on their website. So as to not have too large image files in the media library and in the blog post.

I used to use and love Unsplash but this plugin gives me pause and ultimately I have decided to no longer use Unsplash after all these years.
First a couple months ago I received a DMCA notice for an unsplash image which I resolved and did not think too much of at the time(just a one off incident) but that combined with how this plugin works(which causes a slower image load time) and the new license Unsplash is using is enough to make me stop utilizing them.
On the technical side I installed this plugin on a development server. Used an image and ran a few speed tests. I disabled the plugin and ran those same speed tests using the same image and the results of those tests came out faster. I do use a CDN as well so it may just be that my CDN out performs what they are using but I do not want to suffer a performance loss to use an unsplash image.

Unsplash is sketchy. I used to promote them and contributed but no longer do.
The terms of Unsplash have changed in the past, and may again in the future. The terms themself are less bad than the duplicitous nature in which they have talked about it. It causes me to mistrust their intentions.
It’s unclear why they want you to use their CDN and make that the default, it’s probably to support their new advertising business model and get analytics for it. Running a CDN is expensive, and if you’re not paying for it then you are the product. I would not be surprised if Unsplash hotlinked images broke at some point in the future.
If you want a CDN, you should run one for your entire site, not just certain images from a single source — in fact having multiple CDNs running at the same time could slow down your site because of the additional DNS lookups.
If you want restricted stock images, I’d recommend going with another service that doesn’t have such a controversial or troubled history and ethics. WordPress also recommends a number of places with Creative Commons Zero and GPL compatible licenses:
https://make.www.ads-software.com/themes/handbook/review/resources/#recommended-websites-for-images
There’s also a different plugin provides access to the Unsplash library but that doesn’t require user login or hotlinking of images: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/instant-images/

I love the fact that Unsplash has brought out this plugin. However, I also understand its brand new. I’d like to see a couple of changes or additions. For one, the images are currently only accessible via Gutenberg. So you need to create a post to do so and it makes sense, where these images will primarily reside, in blog posts. However, a lot of us use builders like Oxygen, Divi etc.. and the Unsplash plugin does not work within those. It would be better if it enabled within the media library to find new images or another menu on the left in the dashboard, because, its a pain to open up a blog post purely to find images you need.

Was looking forward to trying this out, based on the description. Installed it, and went to add a featured image. Clicked the link in the editor – no response. Clicked the link a second time, and got the “add image” dialog, except the only tab showing was the Upload Image tab. No other tabs, and no sign of Unsplash.
I use Newspaper 10 theme, and the classic editor. Perhaps it doesn’t work with the classic editor.
I have deactivated it for now, and may try more troubleshooting (deactivating other plugins) to see if I can get it to work. So, three stars for now.

I can’t wait to share this plugin with every client, agency partner, and blogger we know. This is so needed – makes content creation so much better and will help us all make the web so much more beautiful!

I have been hoping for ages for a plugin that does just what this one does – lets you choose (and search for, with great user interface and clear/big enough images) unsplash.com images direct from the block editor.
Cuts out all the faffing around cutting and pasting credits etc as well – various fields of the ‘details’ section for each time (alt description, photographer credit) come pre-completed, though you can edit them if you want.
The fact that Unsplash themselves are behind this and supporting the development of this plug in suggests very good prospects for ‘long term upkeep’ of the code.
If I have a minor quibble it’s that when things go wrong (eg at the installation stage or when you are connecting the plugin to an unsplash account) the error messages I got weren’t that helpful. Having had excellent quick input on this from one of the developers via twitter after an ad-hoc tweet about it I’m sure that the ongoing support topics here on www.ads-software.com and elsewhere will be monitored and will feed in to the ongoing development process and lead to more helpful error messages in future.
Thanks – this is going to be something I use often and recommend to others.
