Just noticed that the plugin is overwriting the normal wordpress image attachment page generation and is embedding a broken PDF instead of displaying the image attached.
If we deactivate the Vanilla PDF plugin all works normally showing the image on the attachment page. BUT with the plugin activated we see a broken PDF box display.
NOTE that there is not manually embedded PDF shortcode on this page – this is appearing automatically in place of the normal image that should appear on the attachment page.
This is a very large site and this is destroying our SEO – we have about 100,000 images.
It is owned by a nonprofit so not a lot of money.
We can go to another PDF embed solution but would be a week’s worth of work. Would prefer to stay with your tool and give you raving reviews.

]]>Hi just agreeing with this closed thread that it seems this plugin is not working with SSL
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/vanilla-not-suitable-with-https/
Is there any way to fix this so that this previously awesome, easy, no nonsense plugin continues to work?
Or have other users come across similarly awesome plugin that simply embeds pdfs just by adding the link to pdf on its own line, so I don’t have to rewrite all the links in this old library?
Thanks for advice
]]>I want to change the background color, but how/where?

I cant find a css setting or css file, help is appriciated.
Last reminder, plugin isn’t updated in 12 months, no changes needed?

Just updated one of my sites today, and I noticed that vanilla-pdf-embed is acting weird with default WP galleries. This is only happening on my live site, not on localhost. It seems like this plugin is picking up an old, cached URL of one of the images from when it was on a test subdomain, noticing that the file isn’t coming from homeurl()
, and attempting to embed it as if it were a PDF. I don’t think I was having this issue before, so I’m assuming it has something to do with the 4.7.2 update.
FYI,
WordPress 4.6.1 running Weaver Xtreme theme will notify the user of:
Notice: Undefined variable: src in /var/www/html/<sitename>/wp-content/plugins/vanilla-pdf-embed/vanilla-pdf-embed.php on line 103
Still works, though… love the plugin
]]>Would there be a way to make the default height fit to the pdf contents? No scrollbar, just one long tall embed? That would be very useful for my purposes.
Thanks for an awesome plugin either way.
]]>In a post I have a pdf linked as https://www.esonet.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Ebook-Alchimia-ENG-Jean-Dubuis-Mineral-alchemy-Vol-3.pdf.
The page to show it is: https://www.esonet.org/mineral-alchemy-vol-3-eng/
If I access page without www, with https://esonet.org/mineral-alchemy-vol-3-eng/ the Vanilla-embedded pdf it is not showing more.
How can I resolve this?
Thank you very much

Any advice?

When I have this plugin active (using Twenty Twelve child Theme), I lose excerpts on my search result page. Any idea what the conflict could be?
My site requires an LDAP login, so I can’t provide a link.
On my test site (same child theme, same other plugins, same hosting), the search excerpts are unaffected.
]]>Is there away to disable the print?
Anyway, I tried this but the title doesn’t change from the .pdf property: [pdf title=”Project Activities” height=”800px”]
Hello,
I was able to embed one PDF fine. But a different PDF doesn’t render properly. It’s size is 8.5X11. However, when I embed it, the display is a tall and completely grey.
Here’s the PDF:
https://garlandsmithspeaker.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Garland-Smith-Speaker-One-Sheet.pdf
Here’s the page where I’ve embedded it:
https://garlandsmithspeaker.com/test/
Here’s my home page where I’ve embedded it using PDF Embedder Plugin:
https://garlandsmithspeaker.com
I’ve been trying to find a PDF Embedder Plugin that honors HTML inside the PDF. I was able to get your plugin to work with one PDF but not with the one mentioned above. PDF Embedder Plugin works great but it doesn’t honor links.
Thank you,
Garland Smith
I have been using the vanilla-pdf-embed, and am loving its functionality. However, I’m hoping to deter site visitors from downloading and printing the PDFs. My initial thought was to disable the toolbar which I tried to do in my site’s CSS to no avail.
Is there an easy way to turn off the toolbar? And if not, what is the best practice to prevent downloads/printing of your PDFs?
Thanks for any help!
]]>Great plugin!
However I am not able to scroll in chrome or safari within the PDF.
I can scroll by highlighting text and dragging down however the scroll bar does not show and and mouse scrolling scrolls the page and not the PDF even after mousing over and clicking the PDF.

]]>Hi,
everything works fine but what do I have to do to point on a .pdf for download *without* having it automatically embedded?
Scenario: I have an info brochure and have it scrollable, very nice, thanks to your plugin. But I also want to add a download link.
Thanks in advance and keep up your good work!

Instead of the .pdf, the page displays just the url:
]]>Downloading install package from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/vanilla-pdf-embed.zip…
Download failed. Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?)
Well something doesn’t seem right? anybody else been here?

]]>How can I prevent the plugin from attempting to embed .doc and .docx files?
I think when parsing the url before finding database matches, it needs to also check whether the url ends in .pdf. I know that’s not always reliable but I think in my case it will be.
As it is, when I try to view an attachment page for a .doc or .docx post, it shows the title and nothing else.
Thanks,
Larissa
Hi!
I’m not sure which wordpress version actually started my problem because I just recently updated from 3.9 to the latest wp version. That is the only thing I changed and just now I realized that all of a sudden my pdfs don’t show anymore. It used to work just fine, but now there is just an empty page showing. I’m not a programming pro so I have no idea what or why it happened. Fact is – I don’t have pdfs anymore. ??
When I try to install the plug in, I get this error
Installing Plugin: vanilla-pdf-embed 0.0.7

]]>I have a PDF that I want to remove, I deleted the PDF from my Media storage, I removed this Plugin but the PDF still exists on the Web. I really need to get rid of this file. Every night I come home and type in my web site name and a word that belongs to the PDF and the PDF pops up on Google, when I click on the google the PDF pops up like it was always there, I have removed the LINK from the Web site, I have looked around on my Server side but Somehow this PDF is still there. Note that if I repeat the request the web site pops up and informs me that the document I am looking for can not be found. I think if I wait a few hours the PDF will still be there, Is it possible the PDF is lodged inside my SQL data base and needs to be manually purged ??
