Export, fine. But at import:

Good Job…
(PHP 5.7+)

it works for my first and second attempts. For the next attempt onward, the error occurs. I used gavick themes, might be this is the one that cause the conflict. Importing the setting of widget is successful. But, the widget that is being import cannot open to change it setting.

That was a great experience, simply works perfectly. The plugin saved me a lot of extra work. A+

The plugin is great and easy to use except that it doesn’t remove the current widgets found on the new template.
I know maybe some people would like to preserve it but it would be better to just replace all widget and remove any current ones. Or notify the user to clear all widget before importing new backup.
Thanks for the great plugin!

No frills. Just does it’s job. It saved me quite a bit of extra work when moving a bunch of widgets from one site to another.

Works perfectly even with Jetpack widget visibility enabled.

Useful and well coded. Recommended!

Экономит кучу времени! Спасибо! Странно, что разработчики не могут сделать так, чтобы виджеты не слетали при переносе…

It exports the widgets from your sandbox / development environment. It imports the widgets to your production environment.
Sweet and simple. It just works.
PS: If there could be an option somewhere to drop all existing widgets before import, then this would be a lot awesome!

I cannot say enough good things about this plugin. When I am launching a site I have a set of rituals I go through, and using this plugin has become one of them.
Widgets are, in my opinion, the weakest part of native WordPress. Whereas every other data type can be easily backed up, widgets are volatile and hard to transfer. The fact that the string length determines whether a widget “makes it” or not in a transfer is completely ridiculous…. when going from a sandbox server to a production server with a different URL, a “search and replace all” of the .SQL dump loses the widgets — they disappear into thin air. Very bad, short-sighted database architecture on WordPress’ part in my opinion.
There have been elaborate workarounds to this problem with various PHP scripts but none of them are as efficient as exporting and importing widgets using this plugin. Great job team, and keep up the great work.

Worked as expected! thanks for the plugin!

Widget works great, just as described. Be mindful that this plugin does not create widget areas, they new and old site must match. So, any additional widgets not present in your new site that you would like to transfer from the old site must be created first.

Export seems to be working just fine.
I can’t select the input box to import my settings.
I tried using IE, Firefox, Chrome, none work.

It’s good to have a plugin like this around when instructing users how to set up new themes using the import export technique.

In my experience, the plugin will install without error, but when you try to upload the json file, it does not display any data. Tried multiple json files/themes/theme developers.
Web hosting company is running php 5.3.23 (only runs with 5.3 or later). Using a major, reputable web hosting company (i.e., the hosting company is not lying, which the developer has suggested to other reviewers).
Further, the earlier version, 1.0, has the same result. I don’t know why theme developers are relying on this plugin to import settings.

If your receiving an the following error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/pilogicc/public_html/fem/site1/wp-content/plugins/widget-settings-importexport/widget-data.php on line 49
Please update your PHP, I change the version to 5.4 under my Bluehost PHP Configuration and re-attempted to install and activated and it works fine.

I tried installing the plugin by downloading it from this website, uploading, activating and also from the direct method from inside WordPress. Both failed. The plugin did not work for me.
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Yesterday, my wp-admin shut down and wouldn’t let me back in. I had to search Google to figure out what to do. Finally found article on WPBeginner.com on disabling all plugins and figuring out which one caused the error/crash.
It was this plugin on line 49
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Not sure why I would need this plug in, but obviously causing problems that need to be fixed.

I’m not aware of any other plugins for exporting/importing widgets which makes this plugin valuable. However, many hosts still run PHP 5.2 and so unsuspecting users (I recommend this plugin to my theme users) get a fatal error when trying to use this plugin since as of 1.1 it requires PHP 5.3. It’s not ideal to recommend users downgrade to an older version of a plugin in order to use it.
In short, it is useful, but not for everyone. Thanks to the author for the work they have put into this plugin.
