Hello, I wish to know if there is a way to stop this plugin overwriting SKUs which have been automatically imported by other means like XML importing when updating a product. Here’s a scenario.
We import a lot of good thru XML from distributor. Products contain SKU. We edit product description. Save. Original SKU is lost and replaced by a slug-generated SKU. This is very bad.
Is there a way to only generate SKU for a new product that you enter manually yourself? Or simply NOT generate a SKU on update and do it only on creation?

]]>When I unselect a variation, the SKU duplicates and it also does not add the other variations onto it. It’s just the primary product SKU that shows up, duplicated
At the moment, my SKU with main product and variations is this ‘LP/24410/RA/R/SL/B-b/rw/none’. You can see the dash that joins them together, but I would like to change it to a forward slash.
Is there a way to do this?
I want all skus to have a default id like
SAP-000000
And SAP in all products fixed and change only 000000
I have it configured to generate the sku based on the id
but when i duplicate a product or copy to draft it creates a sku based on the original product instead of generating based on the new article id.
exemple:
original product
id: 22222
sku: 22222
Duplicate or copied to draft:
id: 22223
sku: 22222-1
this is some kind of bug, I think…

When I set the settings to “Using the attribute slug” it creates SKU’s like this

It’s only for the Medium size variations or M-0
Size Small or S-00 for example works perfectly

This is causing major stock sync issues between two of my sites
]]>I was looking at an old topic and found an answer from Steve, (quoted below). this suggestion does not work for me. Setting to never causes the variable SKU box to consistently say Save product to generate SKU, no matter how many times I save, the SKU is not generated. It’s like it HAS to have something in the main product SKU box in order to generate the variables. Like the original author of this question, I don’t want the main product SKU at all, just the variables. Can you help, please?

The format for the variable SKU can be changed in WooCommerce > Settings Products > Product SKUs. Here you can select to use the Product ID, the Product Slug, or Never. From what it sounds like, the Never option should generate the SKU as you have described.
Can you please try the Never settings here and let me know if this generates the SKU correctly for you?

]]>Hello. I was testing out your plugin. I want to it to auto create variation SKUs only. I was able to get this to work. EG I would get
ABC-small
ABC-medium
ABC-large
However I need to be able to edit these SKUs. I noticed your plugin locks the SKU field and I cannot set the variation SKU manually. There are products in my shop that need me to manually override the auto sku. I would still like the auto sku created as this saves time but I then want to over ride and edit them as I need. Is this possible?

the plugin is using Attribute Term slug to generate SKU for product variations.
in some attributes like length i have terms wit dots like “1.2 Meter” and the slug of this terms are like “1-2-meter” so the plugin is adding “1-2-meter” to variation SKU instead of “1.2-meter”.
do you have any suggestion on how to fix this ?
i think the only option may be to use term title instead of slug, right?
can you give me a hint on how to do this please ?

I want to ask if it’s possible to:
- add a prefix to the SKU
- set the sku / sku variations to be in uppercase
- set the variations attributes individually to be used when it’s generating the skus (ex: for the attribute color named Negru use Neg, for the attribute sex named Barbati use B, for the attribute size named Large use LA etc)

]]>Updated WooCommerce to 4.7.0 – to find this error at the top of all pages:
“WooCommerce Product SKU Generator is inactive. This plugin requires WooCommerce 3.0.9 or newer. Please update WooCommerce or run the WooCommerce database upgrade.”
WooCommerce was fine at 4.5.1 – but this latest update has stopped the SKU generator from running. I remember a similar issue happening with a previous version too – slightly worrying that the plugin hasn’t been updated in 7 months now…
WC Database update/upgrade completed successfully. No pending actions remain.
DeActivating/ReActivating the plugin makes no difference.
Is there a hard-coded version embedded in the code somewhere that’s hit its limit?

I could not find any information on this. I have set up auto SKU using Product ID – Variation ID
Once a variation is sold / out of stock, the SKU displays just the Product ID – blank.
Any info on why does this happen?
I had never paid any attention to this. It’s just when I had exported my Product list for some data, I noticed this.

That means we have to assign one of two attributes between GTIN or MPN.
For dropship sellers, we do not have any Gtin because we import products from other sites like ebay, amazon, aliexpress…
When we generate google feed file, we can easy generate MPN by any feed plugins by using SKU attribute, pleae check the screenshot below to understand how to generate google feed file by plugin, and the MPN in feed file and in google merchant account:
To make feeds valid in google merchant account, we need upload product feeds file, and also verify the products data on google search console.
So, the problem now is how to generate MPN for products, otherwise,there will be warning on google search console, and the google merchant account might got suspended as the lack of this attribute, please check the screenshot:

]]>After reaching out to WP Engine support about a 502 error on our site, they traced back the issue to a conflict between Product SKU Generator & Yoast. If we try to update the SEO title and Meta, then go to save a product, it throws a 502 error and everything freezes.
Here is how to replicate:
1) Open any of your Woo products
2) In the Yoast SEO section, modify the SEO Title and Meta Description (click on “Edit Snippet”)
3) Save the product
4) 502 Error
Here is what WP Engine told us:
After testing for plugin conflicts on saltwolfstage.wpengine.com, we have established that the plugin producing the 502 issues when editing in Yoast is woocommerce-product-sku-generator. I would reach out to the plugin developer for more insight into what is causing this to give the error.

Every product on the site just says “Save product to generate SKU” which means I would have to enter each product manually and then resave the products to generate an SKU – in which case I may as well just add my own manually?
