As a plugin developer, I need this extension to be able to test my plugin against future versions before the officiale release.

This is just brilliant. It allows anyone to test out the beta and see if everything works – Nice work here! I only found out about this from the WPBUILDS podcast – needs more promotion – its fantastic!

I have been using the WordPress Beta Tester plugin for a few months now, and I am blown away by its performance. This plugin has revolutionized the way I test and review WordPress updates, making it easy and hassle-free.
One of the best things about this plugin is its simplicity. The interface is straightforward and easy to navigate, making it simple to install and configure. I love how I can easily manage which updates I want to test and review, and how the plugin keeps me informed of the status of each update.
Another great feature of the plugin is its reliability. I have yet to experience any issues or bugs with the plugin, and I know that it is constantly being updated and improved by the WordPress team.
Overall, I highly recommend the WordPress Beta Tester plugin to any WordPress user who wants to stay ahead of the game and test the latest updates before they are released to the public. It is a must-have plugin for anyone who values the security and stability of their plugin/theme/website.

Always make a backup when testing development releases. Worked great on my end allowing me to see WP 5.5 RC1 and RC2 with improved performance. Thank you for giving us a plugin that allows us to see the future of WordPress!

Don’t know why, but the moment I installed the WordPress Beta Tester plugin, my site went dead. I have never had such experience.

Being able to choose bleeding edge nightlies vs. beta/rc is a very nice change.

Great plugin to install beta releases for testing plugins and themes.
It would be helpful to see information about version numbers which will be installed.

Works fine to test custom Gutenberg blocks with upcoming 5.1

I am a very new user of WordPress Beta Tester but I never show as a supporter as WordPress Beta Tester there has all item available and plugins also amazing. The installation system is very easy as a new member/user I am feeling exiting any hesitation wasn’t working in my mind. I was thinking for a short time I am playing an interesting game.

So far looks good. Thank you for all your continuous effort to make WP better. It but would have been even nicer, to have a full set a built-in cookie disclaimer for GDPR compliance. Can you please add a cookie (may be filtered by cookies name) preference filter disclaimer with different level for visitors to choose from. Which disables all cookies deploy until the visitor accept one of the cookie level option. There could be a section where the WP developer/designer can have fields to add all the required cookie info and a option to categorise their importance for the filtering for the front end.
Thanks.
Kindest Regards

When I activated my plugins page returns 503: Server runs out of time. Deactivated this plugin and all back to normal. Not recommended for 4.8.3!

Does the job very well, thank you.

This plugin works great, as advertised.
A lot of people complain that you can’t revert the DB changes. I bet (hope) that they are not plugin developers. The plugin warns you about this. You are meant to keep a backup of your site first. If you are testing in a container such as docker or a VM, then it’s even easier.
This highlights the issue that user reviews are not always reliable. A lot of users click on plugins and run arbitrary code on their sites without even reading the readme, then they come here and complain. Makes you wonder if there should be a feature on this site for users to rate the usefulness of reviews. Oh well, I’m getting side-tracked!
Anyway, thanks for a great plugin.

Good. But Please note: (This is the bleeding edge development code which may be unstable at times. Only use this if you really know what you are doing.)

Very useful to test plugins against latest beta/rc versions.
But keep in mind, that this plugin is designed for developers only to use it on their development sites – never try to use it on a production site! you may not to be able to go back to stable releaes!

I see a lot of 1 star reviews from people who obviously do not understand what this plugin is for. It is ONLY for Development testing and should ONLY be installed on a Development site/server. This plugin should ONLY be used by Coders and Developers (plugin authors, theme authors, custom coders) to test their code against the latest non-Publicly released WordPress versions. If you install this plugin on a Development site then there would be no reason to change to a publicly released Production version of WordPress since this plugin is ONLY for Development sites/servers and NOTHING else.
If you want to install and use this plugin then create a Development WordPress website (a copy of your Live Production website). If you accidentally installed this plugin on a Live Production website then restore your website from a backup.

1. Allow users to downgrade to either a different beta release or the previous stable release.
2. Tell users what versions they are on in the Updates page.
Also, there seems to be a bug. Even after updating to the latest version it still says “An updated version of WordPress is available.”

word press said they had an update and i had other updates as well so i updated all…now come to find out is says on a little side note “wordpress 4.5 beta 2 is now available this software is still in development, so we don’t recommend you run it on a production site. consider setting up a test site just to play with the new version. ” what in the world my site takes 5 minutes to load or doesn’t even load at all and i can’t even add a post! i can’t do anything as a administrator because it takes 10 minutes for the page to load or it doesn’t load at all and says “error establishing a database”

The plugin does what it promises. But it seems using this plugin is a one way thing. Returning back to using only stable releases can be a big hassle. Disabling & uninstalling the plugin might or might not work for you.
It’s almost criminal that such a plugin is endorsed by the official WordPress pages.
As all the warnings say, make sure you have good backups of everything before using, and use only at your own risk.

Works very well. I’m glad this plugin exists. Big thanks to Peter!

I have posted this on two different support forums, including the one for this plugin, but nobody has a response, and the author clearly isn’t showing the courtesy of dealing with user problems.
So I ran the latest version of this plugin for the 4.2 beta. After release, as I did in previous beta cycles, I deactivated it and attempted to upgrade to the release version. No dice. Even manually installing the 4.2.x files leaves me in 4.3 alpha mode.
Any solutions? Anyone?

The plugin was very helpful but deactivating it did not stop installing pre-release updates. This issue seems to be quite long time known and a response from the author on the support forum could be helpful.

Love this plugin, it’s allow me to install beta for review and testing !

This plugin is useless. I am trying to install 4.2 beta and this piece o stuff just reinstalls 4.1.1 and announces what a good job it did. What a crock.

Works great for me. Thanks!

Why the @#$@$ does the wordpress blog recommend this tool for trying out the RC for 4.1??
It gives me two choices.. point releases (which re-installed 4.0.1) or bleeding edge which gave me 4.2alpha.
Besides the tool hasn’t been updated since 3.8.3 which doesn’t really give the feeling that it’s on top of things..
WHAT it does it does wel, that is, install versions other than the latest stable, but the usefulness for checking my plugins under the latest RC is lacking..
