I developed my site in a local installation and tried to transfer it to a server, this plugin damaged my database in the local installation and the backups I made are useless for the domain server. So now I have a useless local installation that I can’t repair and an online site with a broken database. Maybe it can be faster to redo the site rather than repair the damage that this plugin made to my site.
So please, don’t risk your work and use a plugin of another developer!!!! This is useless and it damages the code. I even’ve lost money as a consequence of using this.

This is a very useful tool for migrating wordpress. Very easy to use and works well.

Moving from a client’s localhost installation, it’s proven to very difficult. The first round of frustrations included:
I tried it twice, completely nuking my installation in between. Hours wasted.
But I believe I finally have it working; but it involved a couple more important steps beyond what’s on the tin.
This may be because the theme is “Divi,” and the images were part of the “projects” custom post type. It did in fact bring over the theme and a child theme folder.

I have used this plugin in the past and it was excellent.
Now it seems broken under WP 4.3.1 even with all other plugins disabled. It hangs during the process of preparing to save a backup – which is fundamental. Seems like a problem with scanning the files to backup/move.
Needs maintenance.

Connecting to xxxxxx:21… Success!
Logging in as xxxxx using password… Success!
Starting uploading files…
DBBackup-14288277991.sql is being uploaded… Failed!
Uploading files is completed with 1 error…
Closing the FTP connection…
Destination location exists.
So it’s pretty much useless.

I was looking for something to make a simple domain change and this worked intuitively and without any huccups. I’ll definitely be using it again in the future.

I wouldn’t recommend this plugin for an entry level beginner of WordPress. The developer doesn’t provide instructional notes and what few notes included are vague, leading my users to look for ADVANCED settings that are not there.
Very important that you accurately provide the path from the top directory that your FTP account has access to, to the backup directory of the WordPress Move plugin on the remote server.
If you get the path correct you should have no problem.

Images don’t transfer, but easily manually moved over with links maintained, The Events Calendar and Akismet need to be pre-installed on target. Saves a lot of time, bit not 100%

I use this to move sites from a development url to the live url. It works every time, no failures in 2 years and many websites. A good understanding of ftp setup is needed, and making sure permalinks are saved in the new website after the move, and if images can’t be edited clearing the browser cache fixes that. I am changing the domain, all content is present and correct when done, all pages can be accessed. This plugin is a massive time saver. The development website is totally untouched by the process.
What is not made clear is making sure the database table prefix is the same in both sites, doing that makes for a much cleaner process.
Follow in instructions carefully and it works very well.

I installed this and tried to get a migration starting with Firefox. The script to display the local filestructure causes the browser to freeze so I tried again in Chrome. This time I managed to get to the transfer start however all I got for my trouble is a white screen.
no error message, no progress no log, just a white screen.

After I did a migration using the exporter and importer tools, I needed to clean up the internal links. This tool did it very quickly, all the links were updated properly. One small bug: anybody’s word’s with apostrophe’s got turned into word\’s with apostrophe\’s, so I had to do some grepping to find all the mess-ups and manually clean them up. But that was a small price to pay for a structurally flawless cleanup after importing.

Really helps out when I’m working on a site locally and need to move it to the live server.
Works well.
NOTE: All posts & pages except the home page will be non-functional on the live server after transfer UNTIL you go into Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes.

I tried a few similar plugins and WordPress Move is the best so far.
But I had a little problem: when I set the size of chunks for the files to 0 (unlimited), I ended up with tons of chunks instead of one file. I hope this will be fixed.

I needed to move a WordPress site from my test server to the client’s official server. It was the first time I’d built a site remotely, so I was a little scared (terrified) about migrating the site to the new server. All the reading I’d done on the subject warranted nightmares.
This plugin works great. Make sure you get the root directory right, other wise you’ll have to manually move the backup files (using FTP) to the correct folder. Once there, though, it’s pretty plug-and-play. I’ll be using it again!

This is a great program which would be worthy of 5 stars. But I took off 1 star for somewhat inadequate documentation.
I wanted to move my site from one subdomain to another, FROM html://wordpresstest.hjcs.org TO html://wp.hjcs.org . I was under the impression that the Migration Assistant would do all the work. But it did not.
Despite asking for details about my ftp logon in the setup screen, WPM did not actually move any files. I had to take care of that little detail manually. But once I did that, my site came up properly in its new home, because WPM did all the heavy lifting.

Easy to use and understand, helps to know a bit about ftp if you get a bit stuck – but restored my development site and changed urls like a dream – even maintained user passwords
many thanks

Stay away from this buggy plugin. I tried using WordPress Move to clone a test server in production. The cloned production site did not work; only the home page was functional. And it did a search/replace for the old/new domain on my the test server when I created the backup image, breaking that site, too! I was able to fix my test site with Xcloner, which is much better documented and easier to use than WordPress Move.

OK–I need to move my WP site from Host A to Host B.
From the previous comments, you have to have WP installed on the receiving side. Can I upload a backed-up file to the new server, or will this plugin walk me through the steps to do FTP?
Thanks, Kevin

I’ve just delivered another site to the live domain using this plugin. I find that manual ftp is more reliable but apart from that it works like a dream.
