Excellent, minimalistic plugin that still works 8 years after its last update.

The official WordPress Codex states: “In WordPress 4.5+, domain mapping is a native feature.”
Unfortunately, this plugin is no longer maintained, even though it is still the best, safest and easiest way to ensure perfect redirection to to correct (sub) blog.
The mentioned define('COOKIE_DOMAIN', $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']);
often results in wrong redirections to the main blog:
In WordPress Network Admin: https://www.mydomain.org/
will likely make typing mydomain.org
redirect to the main blog: https://example.com/?signup=new
At the time of writing this review I am still very happily using WordPress MU Domain Mapping on WordPress MultiSite 5.7.1-alpha-50553, PHP 8.0.2. to ensure that my visitors end up on the correct blog (http, https, with and without www).
In wp-config.php:
define('MULTISITE', true);
define('SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', true);
define('PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/');
define('SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1);
define('BLOG_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1);
/* Prevent redirection to /?signup=new */
define('NOBLOGREDIRECT', 'https://www.main-domain.com');
define('SUNRISE', 'on');
The defined COOKIE_DOMAIN will be set by this plugin to the correct url of all your blogs.

Hi,
After following step-wise instruction, the result is the error message
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/network/settings.php on this server.
Was the instruction applicable to WordPress Multisite Certified by Bitnami on Google Cloud Platform? Did I skipped some major steps?
Regards

As this plug-in has not been maintained actively for the past two years, I was a little concerned about whether it works or not as I installed and ran it with my WordPress blog sites.
Not so long time has passed, but for now it seems to be working fine without any big problem.
Thanks to this great plubin, I will be able to consolidate my blogs on a single server and save money and maintenance workload.

Its Multisite, what can I say more. This plugins was there since the beginning.

Warning! This plugin will only work if WordPress is installed in the root directory of your webserver.
It would have been nice to know that before I went to the trouble of installing it.

I thought I needed this to have domain mapping on my multisite install. I wrestled with trying to get this plugin to work right for days, but there was always something broken, such as admin css, logins, redirect errors, etc. Finally I dumped the plugin and just used the url section in the multisite settings and all my problems went away. Thus, dont use it. Just use the url settings in the network settings -> sites part of the admin.

Works stable since all the last years.

That’s the way I like a Plugin. It just works ??

Worked just fine for 4 years and yesterday started the nightmare.
To do it short : I had to fix the wpdb::escape() deprecated function__ok so I had an other error : get_current_site name, fixed too. And when I thought everything was ok, guess what ?
My main site is a white page
My 3 others sites just display home page, all the other pages display 404 error…
What to say, haunted forums all night, (I have to deliver a site in less than 10 days), harassed my FAI that sent me back to wp forums and for now still looking for a solution, I feel depited and desperate ! Any fix ?

Followed the installation instructions, everything worked just fine. It only issued a notice: Notice: Undefined index: action in …/domain_mapping.php on line 632 because there’s no check for $_GET[‘action’] to see if it’s set. Other than this, everything looks good, thank you.

I’ve been using WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin along with the Add Clone Sites for WPMU (batch) plugin (updated 4 years ago) for several years (at least 3 years).
I have 8 installs of the above two plugins running about 80 domains between them, so if this broke I’d be in big trouble.
Even though these two plugins aren’t updated on a regular basis I’ve had no issues as I’ve upgraded through various versions of WordPress (a lot of major WordPress updates).
It’s a bit of a pain to setup, domain mapping isn’t a simple process, but when setup it works well. Rather than updating 80 sites one at a time I update 8 domain mapped installs, saves me LOADS of time.
Well deserving of a 5 star review.

Hasn’t been update in over a year and still works perfectly.
Great job ??
This plugin should be a part of core when using Multisite.

It works as I expected.
Thanks.

Switching to Mercator by humanmade fixed my issue and I have not seen any issue with it since this post. I agree that most people on a host with old software can use this plugin. Anyone running lastest version of PHP and WordPress should consider other options.

In my setup, (WP 4.3.1 on IIS 7) I had to define a dummy domain prior to defining the domain I wanted.
My main site was, say, foo.mydomain.gr. To define a second site, say, moo.abc.mydomain.gr on the same WP installation, I had to define the domain moo.foo.mydomain.gr first, do the mapping and then change the name to moo.abc.mydomain.gr. This happened because the form adds foo.mydomain.gr as suffix to the new domain name.
This is not documented and I had a trial-and-error situation until I managed to do what I wanted.

I think there was a small issue which was rolled back about a year ago, but otherwise, this plugin serves it’s purpose very well.
There is only one VERY small issue that needs addressing is the hard limit of showing 20 domain redirections in the admin panel. This took some time to work out as you apparently make maps that don’t appear (but do work as they are entered into the DB, just not displayed). This is easily fixed editing line 192 of the source, just remember to do it again after an upgrade ??
But that’s not worth taking a star off for. I’d debate on giving it 4.5, but half stars can’t be applied by us. So 5 stars it is! ??
