Hi Joost
We’ve used the News module/plugin since it launched (currently using 1.1.1) and it’s worked very well for us.
We recently decided to allow carefully selected sponsored articles on site and have done all the usual nofollow/disclaimer stuff to keep everyone happy, and we did – just to be safe – uncheck the pre-checked box to include in the News sitemap.
However, we discovered the story in G News and realise that unchecking the box doesn’t work as on save it changes to checked.
So we decided to add a category for Sponsored articles and submit the story under that setting and only include the article in the excluded category until it fell out of G News. But that doesn’t work either.
It seems it’s impossible to exclude by category or, which would be preferable, by individual post.
We’ve done the usual plugins on/off and the News module on/off and resave settings, but it still obstinately refuses to allow exclusions.
Are you aware of this?
John

I added the following line

before line 169 in xml-news-sitemap-class.php and now it works fine.

Hi,
After recently updating WordPress SEO and the accompanying News SEO and paying for Video SEO, I’ve noticed a specific issue that seems to have developed.
Some of our posts in Google News have the wrong title. This is a different issue that Google picking a title that is better than your own. This is Google News showing Post TItle A, but its linking to Post TItle C’s URL. Looking at the News Sitemap, the only thing that I can spot initially is that these 2 posts appear directly after each other in the site map. I havent been able to identify any other similarities.
I dont believe this problem existed before the 3 plugin updates that we did.
Anyone experience something similar?

This plugin (WordPress SEO News from Yoast) doesn’t seem to recognize custom post types, unless I’m doing something improperly.
It’s weird because on the Google News Sitemaps settings page, it lists all of our custom post types with tickboxes under the heading “Post Types to include in News Sitemap”, which would seem to indicate that it’s aware of custom post types and is set up to include them.
But only “posts” are included in the xml news sitemap, and on individual post pages, in the “WordPress SEO by Yoast” box, the “Google News” tab does not show up if it’s a custom post type.
I hope that makes sense, and thanks in advance for any responses.

Hello,
I show images in my posts not including them inside it, but in a separated
, at the top of the post, which include the “featured image” on a fixed size. So, outside of the_content().
This means, according your standards, that the image is not in the sitemap, under the <image:image><image:loc> tags, because the plugin set it if the image(s) are inside the posts content.
Please, guys, fix it, and include in the <image:loc> tag also the “featured image” of the post, because my template isn’t the only one which show featured images in that way.
Thank you,

Whenever a page/post doesn’t have an original source listed, the plugin adds this to the page:
<link rel=”original-source” href=” ” />
This creates an invalid href attribute in HTML5 and shouldn’t be included on a post/page without a source listed. Unless there’s another reason for this that I’m not aware of, I’d love to see this fixed. Thanks!

For some reason our featured images aren’t being included in the sitemap produced by News SEO. You can see the sitemap here: https://www.themag.co.uk/sitemap-news.xml
Is there anything special we have to do to enable this feature? I’m including posts and media post types in the sitemap.
Thanks.

Which is annoying, but not breaking anything. To work around this I added this code to the constructor in xml-news-sitemap-class.xml to skip including the news-sitemap.xml in the sitemap_index.xml when there’s no content in it.
/**

*/
public function __construct() {
global $wpdb;

add_action( 'init', array( $this, 'init' ), 10 );
add_action( 'wpseo_head', array( $this, 'head' ) );
// ...but only add the news sitemap to the index when we have available items for it
$items = $wpdb->get_results( "SELECT ID FROM $wpdb->posts JOIN $wpdb->postmeta ON ID = post_id
WHERE post_status='publish'
AND (DATEDIFF(CURDATE(), post_date_gmt)<=2)
AND meta_key = '_yoast_wpseo_newssitemap-include'
AND meta_value = 'on'
LIMIT 0, 10" );
if ( !empty( $items ) ) {
add_filter( 'wpseo_sitemap_index', array( $this, 'add_to_index' ) );
}

briefly checked out the code and looks like it’s because if “newssitemap_default_genre” is not set, it defaults to blog. (and since it always defaults to blog probably there’s a wrong variable name somewhere or the data isn’t getting pulled correctly when the tab renders).
