Ben Balter has put together a solid plugin that does a good job of maintaining documents for your WP install. The plugin works well, and functions as described. The plugin also has filter and action hooks which allow developers to integrate with the plugin without hacking it. It is also translation ready, something that a plugin must have for wide adoption. A five star plugin must be not only usable but flexible. WP Document Revisions meets that qualification.
I hope Ben continues his ongoing development. It’s good to see WP coding standards being implemented. Would be good to see more inline documentation for hooks, but that doesn’t affect functionality at all so it’s more of a want than a need.
This is a good plugin with some good features. Unfortunately, there are some very old reviews that don’t paint an accurate picture. Anytime you read a review, look at its age and compare that to the plugin (or theme’s) current development. In this case, there has been active development in the time since some of the older reviews were written (and in my opinion, some of those other reviews are simply not justified).

I’ve been looking a long time for a plugin like WP Document Revision. Still a document management system with workflow status where I can see the revisions and the option to rollback. But it seems that it is not compatible with 4.2.2 because there are no more options to see the logs/revisions. And you can’t change a document online anymore, not with Chrome, Firefox or IE.
And the worst thing: you don’t get answers or support anymore. This plugin is so nice. What a pity!

This is the best document management plugin in WordPress. Still surprisingly works with 4.1.

Unfortunately, for me anyway, if I keep this plugin installed, the Media Gallery images do not show up on the library page.
If I uninstall it, the media gallery shows back up, but I lose the ability to see anything on “new post or new page” type pages, thus it doesn’t allow me to create a new post or page.
it took me hours of deactivating and reinstalling plugins to figure out which plugin was causing the problem.
So I’m screwed either way, either no images on the media library, or no ability to post. Please fix this problem. I’d at least like to remove the plugin.

Due to this plugin’s choice to hook into the existing WordPress post locking mechanism for checking out documents, it was easy for us to hook into it ourselves with another plugin to keep the documents checked out when the window closed. More plugin developers should do this.

I like this template very much. The “versioning” is what it makes it great. The problem is, in any organization you will want different people to access different information, and organize the information in different folders. No organization is going to put all its files just in a list…it will be chaotic!

Very nice plugin but I would like to see more options.. For example:
I really would like to be able to make a new documents status to be public instead of private. Any idea on how to do this?

almost without options and features.

A plugin more than useful and so easy to personalize (the Code Cookbook is an excellent starting point).
He can require a light investment of time at first to understand the mechanics, but once makes, it is about a small jewel so much the conception is thought well.
Some light errors appear with the new versions, but at the moment, everything sometimes cures more or less easily by a workaround solution…
Thank you for all this.

There are a few good things that this plugin does that I really wanted to use, but unfortunately, it corrupts files (at least .zip and .exe files) that I upload with the plugin. If I manually upload, etc, the file is perfectly fine when downloading so the plugin is doing it.
In researching this, it sounds many people have run into this but I was never able to find a solution.
So, if you use this plugin, I would highly suggest you try downloading and opening the files you upload to be sure they are ok.

The plugin sounds fantastic… BUT – it doesn’t seem to work, and there is no sign of anyone on the support forums.
The plugin unfortunately seems to have died for the moment for lack of attention.

Me gusta que aprovecha al máximo las funcionalidades que vienen por defecto en WordPress, y con el plugin simplemente a?ade o mejora allí donde WordPress no llega.
Para usuario básico no lo recomiendo, pero para medio / avanzado es ideal.

Elegant, efficient, and functional. Very strong plugin. I needed it for one specific purpose (protecting uploaded files) and it works great for that. It does a lot more, though, and does it well. Terrific extras in the Code Cookbook, too https://github.com/benbalter/WP-Document-Revisions-Code-Cookbook

This plugin does exactly what it needs to do in a simple and intuitive way.

Really superb plugin! Very clear interfacea and workflow (exactly the same workflow as using WordPress to create posts). Covers everything you could need from simple downloads to a full blown document intranet solution for companies or websites which need to create, review, revise and publish files of ANY format.
Thank you for this. I can see this being my first choice plugin for downloads and dealing with documents.
Expect a donation from me in the near future! Thanks again

Haven’t given it a try yet but sure will as this is the type of plugin I was looking for! And from the youtube video alone I can see that this is a quality plugin made for many types of people.

Installed 1.3.5 on WP 3.5.1 with Members 0.2.2, both on new and existing sites; with the documents stored within the uploads folder and outside the web server accessible folders. I’m mainly using basic functionality: upload documents as private, select which roles can access them, and link to them from posts via the download links (i.e. Latest Version of the Document: Download). This is the only workable solution I’ve found for hosting documents that should be accessible to subscribers but not public.
