WP-DownloadManager used to work really well but now, whenever someone clicks a link the result is: Invalid File ID or File Name. I suspect an update of the plugin is at the root of the problem but can’t be sure. Can you give me some direction on solving this problem?
WordPress Version: 6.6.2
Theme: Rocked (Up-to-date)
WP-DownloadManager Version: 1.68.9
Since the last wordpress update, I can no longer add a document for upload; upon validation, return to the site’s home page.
]]>GREAT PLUGIN!!! Thanks!!
Is there an easy hack to use the plugin with custom user roles? I’m wanting to restrict content to users who have the role of “member” (created through the simple “Members” plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/members/).
I don’t really use the normal roles all that much for users.

HI!
On WP it’s easy to display blogposts on the homepage.
Is there a way to display the downloads from Download manager on the homepage in a similar way?
It seems there is no “WD-page” to choose in the editor.
Thanks! ??

]]>I am a longtime user of this plugin. Mostly, I use it for PDFs, but I offer a few other file types as well. I recently noticed that the download I offer as a ZIP file is not downloading (see the URL I provided). When the link created by the shortcode is clicked, nothing happens.
So far, I tried turning off caching, Cloudflare, and deactivating all other plugins.
Any ideas for what the problem might be?

Hey Lester,
Hope you are doing fine.
I have a questions re your plugin. Is it somehow possible to automatically create a blog post as soon as a file is uploaded.
We are using your plugin to upload newspaper articles that exist in pdf format, and we would love to notify our readers on the blog homepage, that a new file has been uploaded. Otherwise the files can only be found on a sub-page and nobody recognizes without actively going to the download archive.
I could for example imagine a new checkbox on the “Add File” screen like “Create blog post for download” and then an option to customize the look and feel (content) of the blog post (e.g. post title -> file name, post content -> file name as link to the download document).
Do you think that might somehow be possible?
Thanks for your support and best!
Hello, this is a really great plugin. Since using it we’ve found out our downloads are much greater than we thought. What would be really useful is an export data function so we can view some stats. Is that a feature that might be added?
]]>Hi Dude!

]]>Hi from Germany,
Thanks for the effort you put into this plugin, it almost suits my needs perfectly. However, I came up with a very simple but effective enhancement: Why not wrap the functions file_extension_images() and file_extension_image($file_name, $file_ext_images) in a if(!function_exists()) ? With that simple wrap we would have the opportunity to overwrite the file icons with icons in a directory of our choice, for example in a child theme or a site specific plugin.
Or if you don’t like to get your plugin’s function overwritten, maybe you could add a filter to the $dir in file_extension_images(), so one could point to a directory of choice? In this case, the function file_extension_image() could probably look like this:
### Function: Print Out File Extension Image
function file_extension_image($file_name, $file_ext_images) {
$file_ext = file_extension($file_name);
$icon_ext = apply_filters( 'wp-downloadmanager-icon-ext', '.gif');
$file_ext .= $icon_ext;
if( in_array( $file_ext, $file_ext_images, true ) ) {
return $file_ext;
}
return 'unknown'.$icon_ext;
}
Thanks again for that nice and effective plugin. Maybe you could consider my idea for a next update.

I am trying to link to a large mp4 file that I cannot upload to my media library because of its size. It is 480mb. So I uploaded it to the uploads folder for this year and month. However, it is always giving me a 404 not found error. My link looks like this: https://baingeo.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/filename.mp4.
Can you please help me figure out why this isn’t working? Do I need to do something different with my file link?
Here’s the link to the page that it is on: https://baingeo.com/regional-crustal-studies/. It is the Offshore Canada Webinar.
]]>Hello,
which is the file to add rel="nofollow

I tried several files, without results.
Thanks in advance.
Description:
I’ve added a remote file ” https://somewhere.tld/file.ext ” and in the field “File Name” I’ve entered “file.ext”;
Download Nice Permalink: Yes;
Download URL: File Name;
Result:
https://mypage.tld/download/file.ext –> Invalid File ID or File Name.
https://mypage.tld/download/https://somewhere.tld/file.ext –> Download OK.
Is this how is supposed to work, or I’m doing something wrong?
]]>Hey!
I encountered a problem with the sort order in years prior to 2002.
The UNIX timestamp in years prior to 2002 has one digit less then the ones after 2002, e.g. UNIX timestamp “1018007218” is 04/05/2002 @ 11:46am (UTC) [10 digits], UNIX timestamp “986471231” is 04/05/2001 @ 11:47am (UTC) [9 digits].
If the sort order is set to file date descending, the Uploads prior to 2002 get sorted on top of the ones after 2002 (which is incorrect of course).
Could you (or someone else) please let me know how to fix this in the code and deliver a fix for this in one of the next plugin updates as well?
If you need any further assistance reproducing the bug, just ping me.
Thx in advance and best regards!

Hi Lester
Love your work with this amazing plugin. Just need quick help, so I will create “Custom type post” with the pod plugin for each download. Like every download file will have its own page. Wondering how could I display the “file size” & “file hits” separately?
Like my page will be like this:
– Title
– Image
– Description
– Download button (will have this URL https://yoursite.com/download/2/ )
– File hits (just want the file hits for ID=2)
– File size (just want the file size for ID=2)
How could I achieve this?
]]>Hi,
I have been using your plugin for long time in one of my websites. Something I really wanted to do for a while, but couldn’t, is to provide a page to logged users where they can see the Downloaded files. In understand this is not yet coded, but would be possible to suggest adding an do_action() line inside this method?:
add_action(‘template_redirect’, ‘download_file’, 5);
function download_file() {
…
I suggest to pass the $user_ID, the $dl_id,
Having this will allow us to hook into it and record every time someone downloads a file. Then, this can be presented to the user under his own account.
Regards,
