Once a website has been delivered, any new work in the database needs to be copied across from dev sites to staging and live sites somehow. WordPress has basic support for exporting / importing posts, but if you only want to bring taxonomies across, it has nothing. This handy plugin lets you do that. Nice job, and many thanks!
It may not have been updated in a while, but still working very well on WordPress 6.6 in 2024. There are PHP deprecation warnings in PHP 8.3 (and likely 8.2) but they are only warnings.

Had to export Woocommerce categories, this plugin was just the perfect tool. The export format can be used with the default WordPress importer, so there is no need to install anything on the importer side.

I used this plugin to export a custom taxonomy, and it imported into another WordPress installation without any problems.

It still works in latest WP version but the XML outputs taxonomies as arrays, which are not always well imported by WP. Does no harm in testing, it might be good for you.

Worked like a champ! Thanks! WP 4.9.7

Works great for export, but don’t know how to import the files…

Simple … but does exactly what it claims. Not sure why the WordPress exporter doesn’t provide this simple functionality but it doesn’t. We used it to export both English and Spanish taxonomies. We had to select the language after they were imported but that was a minor task. It even spotted corrupt data and would hang up and not save that export group so we knew to create those taxonomies manually. Once you have the narrowed down data exported you can merely use the WP Importer without the need for an Import plug-in. (All-import charges you U.S. $99 for selective taxonomy import. Plus our database is so big we can’t use the WP exporter.) This solved the problem without having to go that route. Loved it.

I had a taxonomy with just under 1,000 terms. Creating the initial taxonomy was a daunting task that took an entire weekend. With this great little plugin, I was able to copy the taxonomy to similar site in just minutes! Thank you!

I needed to remove a particular taxonomy from my website as it was adding too much bulk to the user experience. The taxonomy had about 50 terms which I had organised into specific hierarchies, so I wasn’t keen on just deleting them and re-adding them later when I needed them again.
The WP Export Categories & Taxonomies solved my problem brilliantly! I simply installed the plugin via WP Admin, and exported the taxonomy to an XML in a similar way to how you would do posts, pages or categories.
Thank you timersys!
