This may have in part been abandoned in favor of Gutenberg, but I would like to politely beg that this be updated to work without having to install the old REST API plugin. And perhaps review the code and update anything else that needs a refresh.
I understand that many may not see a point. If you have to edit a post, edit it in the back-end. Or, there are a couple of other front-end editing options. But, I have a minimal website (all text) and I want members to be able to edit their plain text posts from the front-end. This works extremely well for that. I should add that I also use a minimal, non-full-site editing theme. I’m sure that helps as I assume this may not work with new block type themes.
Please, if the original author cannot due to other more important projects, could someone adopt this?

So, this simple plugin allows you to easily edit standard ‘posts’ on the front end by adding content. Mostly paragraphs, bullet lists, images, etc. All the standard stuff that you may want in a post. BUT it does it on the front end without having to go into the posts -> edit routine.
This does not use Gutenberg and is very simple. It relies on having the Rest API installed. This is installed for you after this plugin if you allow it.
What’s nice is you have the ability to allow it to edit other custom post types (e.g. pages). Most people use page builders so this would not work for them but if you have simple site with great content, this will allow you to dip into posts and pages, etc. and edit to your hearts desires.
I love it and find it very useful at times. If you want to use your page builder you can always go into the backend and use it, this is just another way of editing.
My advice (if you use it) is to use it on ‘posts’ and every day stuff where you just want to bang out some content without all the hassle of going into the backend, etc. Nice one.

Ok so this plugin hasn’t been updated in 3 years but it still works like a charm! Love it! Thank you!

For those who work with a newer WP version with the build in REST API, you can add :
return;
after:
function check_rest_api_plugin() {
In class-fee.php in the root of the plugin folder. Now you dont need the WordPress Rest Api plugin.
It seems like PUT and PATCH are not supported anymore and the new route for updating is a post to /pages/500 for example.
You can fix this by editing fee.js in the js folder.
Change line 23 to:
return Backbone.sync(‘create’, model, _.clone(options)).then(function (data, text, xhr) {
So update method to ‘create’.
Hope this works for others, cause this plugin seems to be the best free front end editor ??

never got off the ground!. No instructions, no settings. Front-end Editor requires WP REST API that will cause errors with Jetpack, Deactivate jetpack and still not work.. giant waste of time
A easy, working plugin to do as this plugin claims to do, allow registered user to edit their own post is much needed!..

Only problem I see here is integrating this will all of the custom fields and post types that have evolved. This plugin is going to need a simple API that programmers can interface with allowing them to create intuitive ways for users to handle Shortcodes, shortcode IN custom fields, custom fields created with things like Redux and ACF…
Please do this, its a huge task, maybe if WordPress took people off of Gutenberg and put them onto this we would have a fantastic product!!!

Good but I like to see some update?

PROS: Incredibly easy to install and use, without doubt the best editing plugin in front.
CONS: When adding a video to the entries page, it stays blank and until you do not post it does not look … There is a problem adding videos
THANKS FOR THE PLUGIN!!

I’m so happy to see someone continuing the journey of a viable front end editor for WordPress. I’ve used it while composing my last few posts and it behaved flawlessly. Cheers to the developers. It’s fast, responsive, and a joy to use.

Despite the negative reviews it really works very well!

The plugin works fine and has rather elegant features (such as the mini-editor toolbar that appears when you select some text), but there’s a glaring UI issue in the location of the validation button: it should be put in place of the edit link (on which you click to toggle the editing mode) rather than being located on the WordPress toolbar. Like a lot of the 1-star reviewers, I’ve found myself very much puzzled the first time I edited some text, trying to find out how I could toggle back to the normal mode.
If that little issue were to be fixed, that would definitely make this plugin a 5-star for me.

I really love this plugin but it has some bugs, like the duplicate content. With some custom code is easy to solve it, but would be great if author continue the development.

I would love it if more features are added.

Very clever design according to the screenshots I’ve seen, with a simple functional toolbar at the top of the front end.
Unfortunately, i can not see this toolbar in reality. You can edit, but not save/update. Then this plugin is useless. I’ve tried several user roles, different web-browsers, disable original admin toolbar, removing other plugs without success.

We admin a whole school district of teachers who simply refuse to use the standard wp editors. This wysiwyg front-end approach is so simple I am hoping to see their active involvement in posting increase. It could use a little tweaking, but I think you guys are on the right track.

When I tried to use this plugin, I couldn’t actually type anything. I’d see the text to edit. I’d click on it, but then I could do no edits.

pretty simple no advanced buttons like indent, left right, add link etc.

Both the edit link below the content nor the edit link in the admin bar do anything with this plugin enabled.

good to see custom post type ‘front-end-editor’ support added.

Once you’ve posted an article, you’re almost forced to use WordPress’ own badly mutilated editor. It is just terrible. Whenever your mouse move even a millimeter to far to the left or right, some useless slide-inn appears. Just let me write! The distraction free editing mode is even worse, it has turned into a joke.
So I looked for a simple front end editor and WP Front End Editor does the job flawlessly.
Whether it is WordPress coding that forces the developers to use silly slide-ins and pop-ups or personal preference I don’t know, but without an option to switch their appearance on and off, for me the plug-in has limited use.

…the front-end writing experience is completely seamless. I love it!

Seriously saved me when I had to manually edit 500+ posts to add customized shortcodes. Was able to do it in 3 hours. No way I could have managed that using the back-end editor.
Unfortunately, the plugin just stopped working. I’ve deactivated it and reactivated it several times, disabled all of my other plugins, and it just won’t work anymore. Such a shame as I feel it’s a great plugin and would use it often.

Can’t wait until this is in core… oh hang on: don’t have to! Just install this plugin ??
Great for doing small revisions after publication. Forgot to dot that i half way down your very long post? No longer the cumbersom dance of having to go and scroll back and forth through the content in the admin editor, looking to find that missing dot.
This plugin makes life soooooo much easier!
