]]>At first I did edit the HTaccess file myself. But it turns out that my hosting does not allow that.
They have added in the file :
__________________________
The guidelines (lines) between “BEGIN WordPress” and “END WordPress” become dynamically generated and should only be adjusted via WordPress filters. Any changes to the guidelines between these marks will be overwritten.
__________________________
So I thought maybe using this plugin will overrule that.. but it does not.
It would be easy to set a daily autosave timer, so every morning at 6 it will resave the HTaccess file orso.
Or are there any other options to solve this?
Hello, I have added this rule to the htaccess:
Header always unset X-Frame-Options
Header set Content-Security-Policy “frame-ancestors ‘self’ https://www.domain1example.com https://www.domaintwoexample.it”
After a few weeks it gets deleted. i asked the hosting they say they did not touch anything.
I read another topic in this forum about this but it seems like a mistery. I did not install any security plugin on WP.

]]>Hello,
I’ve just installed the plugin as I’m told I need to edit my HT Access file to prevent some spammy link/404 issues.
Here’s exactly what I’m told to do from the guide I’m using:
“The first step should involve editing the .htaccess file and setting this as the first Rewrite rule:?
RewriteRule ^1000/?$ – [G]
RewriteRule /1000/?$ – [G]
“
So basically, I’ve got to add this to the ht access file. But I’ve no idea what to do. Is this in place of any existing redirect rules in the file? Alongside other redirect rules? Where exactly in the HT access code do I put this snippet?
When I tried to put this above the first existing rewrite rule, the test feature told me it was incorrect.
For everything I’ve tried so far, when I test the changes, I always get the error message that the code syntax has failed and it will break the site. Strangely, I still get this error when I make NO changes to the code, so any help on getting this rewrite rule done correctly would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Oliver
]]>Hey! Just wanted you to know that I’ve experienced no issues with Htaccess file editor on PHP 8.2 and WP 6.4 release candidates nor final release.
Thank you for a fine tool, much appreciated.
]]>I’m not entirely sure what might be going on, but I just tried to add this to a multi-site network where there were 7 preexisting sub-sites as a user that’s a Super Admin on top of being administrator for all sub-sites.
However, after activation, it isn’t showing the menu item under Settings in the Network Admin.
Instead, it’s still just adding the menu item to the Settings section for the sub-sites.
This goes against what the plugin description says of:
WP Htaccess Editor is fully compatible and tested with WP Network (WPMU). It shows up under the Settings menu in network admin. It’s not available in individual sites as there is only one htaccess file per network.
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-htaccess-editor/
Is this happening for anyone else, or it this something to do with this particular WordPress Network setup (somehow not having network activated plugins work as such & instead has them act like they’re individually activated on all sites)?
That said, I have other plugins (such as Really Simple SSL, among others) that are network activated and their Network Admin settings show without issue (working like it knows it’s network activated instead of individually activated on the sub-sites.)
Seems like this just might not working as intended & could use further testing to make sure it is (make it so network activation has the settings only show in the network admin settings & not subsite settings.)
]]>I recently started having issues with some sites where I would get 403 Access denied errors on some of my sites. I was told by my host, if I deleted the htaccess files, I would probably be able to sign in again. This has worked a number of times. It seems that the htaccess file is auto created afte it is deleted. Would it be better to use this plugin and do a backup and then if there was a lock down, manually delete Htaccess file , sign in and then restore the backed up file. Does anyone know what causes this file getting coruppted?
]]>So I just installed this to check whether my htaccess was causing the occasional error 403 on my otherwise-functional site. I’ve made no changes via the plugin.
Running the test it says it fails, but does not elaborate further. How do I find out where the errors are, as nothing is highlighted in the editor?
Sorry if I’m being dumb, I often am.

Hallo Webfactory Friends; as Aiyanna said at her post (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/no-permission-3/) and you guys answered about changing the .htaccess permissions from to 777; I tell you I did it and still my WP keeps telling me it has no .htaccess writing permissions.
Do you know what will be this? Do you think this problem could has to be with the WP-access-editor mod_rewrite_rules use?
I apreciate very much in advanced any any asistance you can give me.
Trying to add the following to the top of the htaccess file and getting a syntax error when I test before saving. Are Headers not editable in the plugin?
# Really Simple SSL
Header always set Strict-Transport-Security: "max-age=31536000" env=HTTPS
# End Really Simple SSL

If the plugin is used together with another plugin (in my case, WP Cloudflare Super Page Cache) which uses a newer version of the ‘sweetalert2’ js library (11.0.18 for the mentioned plugin), WP htaccess editor won’t be able to Save or Save Test anymore, but it will throw the following JS errors:
wp-htaccess-editor.js?ver=1.70:formatted:32 Uncaught TypeError: Class constructor rn cannot be invoked without 'new'
at block_ui (wp-htaccess-editor.js?ver=1.70:formatted:32)
at HTMLAnchorElement.<anonymous> (wp-htaccess-editor.js?ver=1.70:formatted:171)
at HTMLAnchorElement.dispatch (load-scripts.php?c=0&load[chunk_0]=jquery-core,jquery-migrate,hoverIntent,utils,regenerator-runtime,wp-polyfill,wp-hooks&ver=5.8.2:2)
at HTMLAnchorElement.v.handle (load-scripts.php?c=0&load[chunk_0]=jquery-core,jquery-migrate,hoverIntent,utils,regenerator-runtime,wp-polyfill,wp-hooks&ver=5.8.2:2)
A quick fix for this would be to use object instantiation with new
in all the places where there is none currently, i.e. tmp = new swal(
instead of tmp = swal(
. It might be also a matter of file/module import, I’m not sure about this.
Weird, I reset the htacess by inputing the default wordpress htacess:
# BEGIN WordPress
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
# END WordPress
After saving it the site is still on and working as usual.
Any ideias? I’m hosted on cloudways.
Edit: Did it on the life site and got no syntax errors.
]]>I have tried directly editing .htaccess file from FTP. I added a line right after RwriteEngine On, but it get overwritten several days later.
Now I have edited the .htaccess file using your plugin, so it looks like
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^apply\/? https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5IrOhg0E_NAGZnOvMuaXhU80sio8bukaWVBkb87eEOa9kTw/viewform [L]
RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
I think it will get overwritten too.
You can see I simply want to redirect mystie.com/apply to a google form, but I can’t simply added outside the wordpress block, because
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
will take over before it gets to my rule. How should I do this then?

I’ve tested it on two different sites running WP 5.6 and PHP 7.4, smooth sailing.

I’m not sure whether those relate to WP 5.7 or PHP 8, but something is not quite right.
Are you able to reproduce?
Kind regards

Hi,
I had the message that.htaccess file is not writable.
I went to the file manager and checked the permissions which are set to 644. The public_html folder is set to 750.
I still can not save the .htaccess file from your plug in and get the following message: Could not write .htaccess file. Please check file permissions.
What can I do to solve this?
Thanks,
Aiyanna
I am trying to use your WP Plugin to change my Htaccess file. Installed the plug in tried a TEST and I keep getting the message –
Test Failed
Failed to create test directory. Please check that your uploads folder is writable.
I changed the Upload folder permissions to 755 then to 777 and still get the same error message. Retried and the same happens.
Can you help please?
]]>Does wp-access-editor manipulate .htaccess directly, or does it place code into the site that uses mod-rewrite-rules to update the .htaccess. That is, do the changes made using wp-access-edtitor to .htaccess get preserved across operations such as permalink regeneration (during which WordPress) updates its portion of the.htaccess file.
]]>This plugin is great BUT can I request one code change please.i
Instead of checking if the current user is an administrator the plugin should check use th check is_super_admin(). This wil make no difference for regular wordpress functionality but will make the plugin safe to use on multisite.
Right now if that plugin is activated on a site in multisite a local site admin can edit the htaccess and bring down the whole network.
]]>1) Consider such plugin to safeguard rules in htaccess some plugin bugs can cause htaccess to reset and manually inserted rules are gone. Your plugin I assume insert and force the rules back since they are coming from a plugin and wp backend?
2) How light is this plugin?
3) But since htaccess is a very sensitive root file on the server I would like to force a password when clicking to this page in the navigation. This to prevent other content managers etc to make edits in this file. Of course, can be restricted with other plugins, but why not serve it directly within the tool? Would by then install and start using this plugin.
]]>Hi! Each time I try to edit my .htaccess file through the plugin, I get the error that says: “There is an error in the .htaccess file and your site is probably no longer accessible,” and I have to restore the backup of the file. However, when I attempt to make the same change to my .htaccess file via another FTP service, it works perfectly.
The redirect I just added via a different FTP (that did not work through the plugin) was:
Redirect /2018-results /blog/2018-report-card/
One potentially relevant detail is that our site has three WP installations, one on coeduc.org, one on coeduc.org/give, and one on coeduc.org/es. It doesn’t seem that that should be the cause for the error, though, because the plugin was working well for us until recently.
Can you help me determine what might be going wrong? I would love to be able to continue using your plugin because I have coworkers who want the ability to create redirects through the WP dashboard. Thank you!
