Hi Dan, this is a great plugin. I just installed it and was able to get it to work quite quickly. All members of the state house and senate show up. All bills that I have entered are showing up also. Just what I needed. Thank you so much!
Now to my questions:
1. Can this be expanded to the US Senate and House in Washington, DC? Would be great to track on a national level also!
2. Is there any way to edit how it displays on a page?
Thanks, Mark
]]>Hello! Found your plugin through searching for “WordPress legislation plugin.” I was hopeful that someone, somewhere, had built a plugin that pulled bill information, so I didn’t have to do it manually (as I did last year).
I have installed the plugin, gotten the API key from Open States, and added the two Google maps keys. (Although, the termininology for which key went where didn’t seem to match the “HTTP Referrers” and “API Key” terminology I got from Google, so I tried them one way, then reversed them.)
The “Senate” hyperlink shows the members of the Senate — so far so good. But, the address search doesn’t seem to work.
My biggest question, though, is bill tracking. Does this plugin do that? Do I have to add the bills myself, or does it pull them manually?
I realize you are very busy, so I understand if you don’t have time to work on this. I will note, though, that I would be glad to pay a licensing fee for this, simply to keep me from having to do the work myself.
]]>I read the previous post about this plug in not working… and that this is a labor of love.
I downloaded it & put in the API from open state as well as google geo API and it’s not working at all.
I actually really need this plugin- I would like to help find someone(perhaps part of the open states team? as this is kind of essential for my organization to have(as we work on introducing legislation on a state by state level).
Is there anyway I could help you? I would be happy email the open states team for help.
]]>First, I want to say thanks for a great plugin. This is exactly what we need for our organization.
Unfortunately, it seems to have stopped working. When looking up bills, nothing can be entered except the state. Nothing displays with the shortcode anymore, either. Maybe the plugin isn’t compatible with newer versions of WordPress? I also saw that API keys are required again, so I did get an Open States API key to see if that would fix the problem. Unfortunately, it didn’t.
Is there any chance this excellent plugin is going to be updated in the future?
]]>First off, thanks for creating a great plug-in! I just installed the Legisearch plugin but I don’t see the shortcode for displaying the bills that I am tracking. I would like to display those bills in a table on my site if possible. Please help, thanks!
]]>I am so excited about this plugin–except I can’t get it to work. Since sunlight is transitioning, they advised (on 12/17/16 in Google groups) all new users looking for api keys to use their email address as their api key until further notice. This doesn’t work with the legisearch plugin. Is there a work around? What can I do? Thanks
]]>hi Dan,
Linton + i are having a heckuva time getting the plugin to work on the wordpress Salient theme, which was requested by the client. Live + learn: I will never allow a client to select a theme again!
That said, Are you familiar with themes that work particularly well with Legiserve? Our goal is to not only provide state legislators’ email addresses to the user, but also via 1 click,
pop open the user’s email system + populate an email with a pre-written letter. (much like petitions MoveOn.org or change.org does)
thank you!
michele
i’m working with Linton Hale (so please get wordpress version from his input), + am doing a random search as to how many legislators provide an email address . . . not very many, it appears.
do you have any thoughts on this?
also, many offer only contact forms on their websites, so i’m wondering if contacting them via a form still provides collectible email data for Sunlight Foundation + therefore your plugin? my hunch is that it does not.
]]>Great plugin! The [legisearch_addresslookup] shortcode is working well when I place the short code on a sub-page of the site, for example:
https://12.lintonhale.com/wp-legisearch-subpage/
Here’s a screenshot of it working on sub-page at link above:
https://screencast.com/t/c0235MKYxl
But, if I try and use it on a static home page, it refreshes the page to include the results, but also includes the standard blog home with the sample “Hello World!” blog. Here’s a screenshot of what I’m seeing:
https://screencast.com/t/ewEo4vrCfos
If I remove the sample “Hello World!” blog, then I get no results, says “Nothing Found” as in this screenshot:
https://screencast.com/t/ewEo4vrCfos
Any thoughts? Thanks for your help!
]]>Hello,
I’m trying to view bills and nothing is showing up. Can you help me figure it out?
Thanks!
]]>Hi, I’m interested in using this in a multisite setup. Does it already provide support for this? If not, is there any way you could release this function in the future?
]]>Entered the appropriate API keys.
Will not pull Session into dropdown when bill is selected
Find Rep shortcode created the form but nothing appears after an address is entered and the search button is clicked.
Shortcodes do not generate any data on the front end either.
