Be Careful!!

The plugin removed over 900 images from active Posts! The image URLs were clearly in the database as links with the proper href=”…” construct.

Even in wp 4.1.5 i tried this but the scan stopped at 1% of total images… without even showing anything.

The best Media Cleaner plugin I have found yet. Works as intended, and really cleaned out a lot of both files and references.
Used it for some time, havn’t found any media I deleted that I needed

The plugin works, except for files with non-ASCII characters in the name (á, ?, ?, etc…). It will detect them as not being used and delete them if you don’t ignore one by one manually.

If you are completely sure all your file name contain only ASCII characters, go ahead, otherwise not recommended.

Found all my orphaned files, which where loose in those unnavigable media directories and successfully removed them. It did catch a few files in my library that were in use by my theme and not in a post, though it wasn’t an issue because I reviewed what I was going to delete. Excellent for what it does though hopefully I won’t have to use it too many times in the future.

was looking for something to reduce the size of backups with a load of obsolete files in the upload folder. This did the job perfectly!

This is the only plugin of this sort I found that actually does something I can understand – although its options are well hidden…
It doesn’t fully delete selected files but moves them to another folder and you are then free either to restore them if something goes wrong or fully delete them by FTP if they are really useless.

Needed to trim down the size of one of my blogs so I could migrate it. Found 2000+ orphaned media items and got rid of them quick. Reduced my total migration size from 40 MB to 15MB. VERY HAPPY!

WP Media Cleaner failed to recognize files that were attached to slider plugins that link to pages, and failed to recognize images that are manually attached to a page in WP media library but are not present on a page or post. There are no filtering options, one has to manually check each file to be sure it’s not important, and I found that manually using the WP image library / unattached files menu and tools was just as fast. Therefore I found it pretty much useless and even dangerous for a novice.
WP Media Cleaner needs more development before I would consider it a useful plugin for a business website. It may work fine for basic bloggers and those using their site to present their photographic images.
Yes it’s a “simple” plugin but all developers should offer clear instructions on use for those with little experience with WP and plugins. This developer does not. The plugin home page is simply the authors personal website.
