I am one of the developers of Jetpack family of plugins at Automattic, reaching out to you regarding an issue caused by WP Menu Icons.

We see that WP Menu Icons uses automattic/jetpack-assets package. Thank you for using it ??.

We develop/maintain that package in our Jetpack monorepo. We recently added some new JS functions to that package via its JS bundle.

Yesterday, we had reports of at least one site using the WP Menu Icons plugin along with the Jetpack plugin (v14.0-a.11) and the editor showed an error and the Jetpack settings page crashed.

Steps to reproduce:

• Install the latest version of WP Menu Icons (v3.2.7)
• Install the latest alpha of Jetpack – v14.0-a.11
• Goto /wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack#/settings
• See the page crashed and check the browser console for the error – TypeError: (0 , s.siteHasFeature) is not a function

The reason for the crash/error was that WP Menu Icons uses the automattic/jetpack-assets package via composer autoloader. Each plugin’s autoloader generally gets pushed into the start of the autoloader list, and WP generally loads plugins in alphabetical order by slug. So “wp-menu-icons” loads later than “jetpack” or “jetpack-social”, meaning its Composer autoloader winds up in the list before Jetpack Autoloader.

Thus even if Jetpack has the updated version of the automattic/jetpack-assets package, the version with WP Menu Icons gets loaded, which does not contain the functions included in the version that Jetpack plugin bundles/uses.

However, the recommended way of using automattic/jetpack-assets package in a WordPress plugin is mentioned in its documentation:

Using this package in your WordPress plugin

If you plan on using this package in your WordPress plugin, we would recommend that you use Jetpack Autoloader as your autoloader. This will allow for maximum interoperability with other plugins that use this package as well.

So, we request you to use the recommended way of loading Jetpack packages to avoid such issues in future.

Feel free to open an issue in the monorepo if you need any help or have questions.

unfortunately, the icons I chose for my menu aren’t visible on the frontend. do you have a clue why this could be happening? a few weeks ago it was all fine…

When I upgrade the plugin WP Menu Icons from version 3.0.2 to version 3.1.4 my icons are in the way, how can I fix this?

I would like to inform you that a warning message related to register_rest_route` has been appearing since version 3.1.0 of the plugin. It seems that the hook for registering REST API routes was called too early.

On several sites where I use the plugin, I’ve started seeing 404 errors when I try to edit a menu that uses icons assigned by this plugin. Everything is current versions. If I disable the plugin, then I can save the menus.

Does it still work with WP 4.7.x-4.9.x, as is said in plugin directory ? Unfortunately I cannot test the newest version directly with WP 4.7-4.9; yet it definitely does not work with ClassicPress, wich is based on WP 4.9x. The version 2.2.6 works well; with 3.0 site crashes (I restored the previous version).
Version 3.0 with WP 6.1.1 works well.

Would be great if you can add the most popular Themify icon for menu like External linking ?? I cannot see it. Thanks!

I have an bug that cause wordpress backend dashboard is not editable anymore.
You can’t even click on “Help” or “Edit view” (right top corner).
Maybe some kind of jQuery / JS Conflict.

When I deactive the plugin, everything works fine.

Installed plugin with Neve theme. Under Appearance->Menus. I see the plus icon and can add image from default dashicons. I cannot switch to font awesome or any others. There is no wp menu icon menu. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling etc. I’m not sure if theme is blocking or where to look.

Much like Menu Icons by ThemeIsle, this works for every menu in the Seedlet theme from Automattic except for the Social Links Navigation menu, maybe for the same potential reason? My suspicion re: that other plugin is that the menu item titles aren’t “filterable”. Does anyone know if there’s a way to make menu item titles in Seedler filterable for this purpose via some sort of custom function?

Hello, I have added custom links to the menu on my home screen and applied icons using WP menu icons and they have been added correctly. However, these icons are invisible after I save them and not visible on my live site. they should be next to “home” in the menu bar. Do you know how this can be fixed?

If I set vertical align as Top, it just displays aside – top from menu item text. I need it to be above text.

I used the plugin with elementor maybe that is the reason.

This plugin works on WordPress 5.6. Sadly enough, not for all icons. But I found that the “Themify icons” worked flawlessly.

The other icons either didn’t show up or only showed up for logged in users.

I’ve installed WP Menu Icons, but when I go to the Menu Icon Settings and try to select anything other than Dashicons, the ‘save settings’ button just spins for ages and never saves anything. Using latest version of WP hostd on WP Engine.

After using icons ( size 3 em ) all the sub items are align to right instead of left..who to solve this?

how do you control the icon size image?
