Dear Shield Security team,

I built a website for my client and when they try to login as admin, they are taken to a 404 error page.

Their IP address was blocked but we have now unblocked it and allowed it to bypass rules but it still leads to a 404 error. Please assist.

I just received an email from WordPress saying “Your Site is Experiencing a Technical Issue”, it looks like it’s due to Security Shield?

I am pasting what the emails says below.

I had recently activated the two-factor activation and Security Admin protection, will I be locked out from my website should I deactivate your plugin? Must I restore the initial settings before deactivating itr?

I have been using Shield Security (free version) for quite some time. Now I am having some issues with my website and I have to understand which plugin is causing it.

If I deactivate your plugin, could my website break/have errors? I mean, do I have to revert any changes I had made to my website through your plugin before deactivating?

I’m working with a developer on the MapSVG plugin (https://mapsvg.com). In resolving an unrelated problem he stated:

“please contact the developers of WP-simple-firewall plugin, I think I told you already that they load their JS/CSS files on all pages of WP admin, making the buttons in mapsvg green, while they should be black. They shouldn’t do that.”

So, I’m just the messenger – don’t shoot me. I don’t even know if what is says is correct or not. What I would ask is, is this part of a security feature for the admin of WordPress that I could maybe turn off with a parameter?

After browsing your site, I see there’s not a single email, contact form. or way to contact you for presale support (since support contact demands I buy the product?)? A little weird/alarming but I guess this forum is the only place?

We are a small hosting firm, We are trying to develop a whitelabel Security SAAS Product and your plus or agency plans are interesting. That said, I don’t want any site limits. I wonder if we can create some sort of per site per as you go plan? For example the Plus plan is €269 per month for 100 sites, I’d like to be able to launch with $3 per site per month “pay as you go” option, would that be something the team can consider?

Here is the issue:

I am unable to save any changes to any page or product. The page referenced above is not the only but I provided for sake of moving forward with support request.

If I edit a product in woocommerce store same things happens. It will not save and produces the Server Error 403 Forbidden. Use of the site functions as normal yet no changes can be saved.

NOTE: when accessing the support area of the Shield Pro website the Launch Support button does not redirect. It does not function and I tried several browsers. Other buttons/links on that page function properly but not the Launch Support button. So I am unable to contact support.

We have encountered an unusual bug when using Shield Security’s email based 2FA system.

Our setup: WordPress Woocommerce store. We are using the 2 Factor Authentication By Email option, with Enforce – Email Authentication applied to some specified user roles only. Some of these roles are roles we have created for the site. ‘Allow any user to turn on’ is off. The 2FA verification page is set to WP login page. 2FA user config page is set to Wp User Profile Page.

The issue we have is that for users whose roles have email 2FA applied, after they have successfully verified via 2FA the site doesn’t seem to load correctly. The front end loads and is visible, but the browser loading progress indicator continues to animate as if the site is not fully loaded. The users cannot access the backend of the site at all, the tab appears to be loading but no content appears, meaning the backend is not visible/usable at all to these user roles.

What’s particularly strange is, this happens when using our office wifi connection, but does not happen when using our mobile hotspot dongle from the same location.

I have checked the office wifi IP address against shield’s block list and it is not blocked/has no restrictions that I can see. This issue only started happening when we activated 2FA for these user roles. When I switch off 2FA for the users who are experiencing this issue, the issue stops and the backend loads correctly for them.

Does anyone have any idea what might be happening here?

Did you remove the configuration options? If not, can you please point me to where I can find such things as WP auto updates?

Recently, Shield Security has prevented accessing the Tools–>Export XML download of the database.

I don’t know which version this started with or the specific shield setting that causes it. I have tried many combinations without success.

But if I temporarily disable Shield Security, I can generate the XML file and download it correctly.

How can I make this work correctly?

Hello Paul, please can you give me a short breakdown of what the challenge complexity options are best used for? I have had a look at the help file page given in the WP dashboard (https://getshieldsecurity.com/blog/silentcaptcha-wordpress/) but wasn’t able to work out which option I should use in the drop down from this. It has defaulted to Medium, but I see there is an Adaptive setting also amongst others. But I’m not sure which to use. Thank you for your assistance.

I just updated the plugin to the latest version and my site’s speed slowed down by 2–3 seconds, which is very noticeable. I got the screenshot showing the wp-simple-firewall plugin appearing in the PHP slow logs from the server as well.

The speed immediately goes back to normal after I deactivated the plugin.

Not sure if it’s just my website, or it’s a common issue.

Hi. I uninstalled Shield Security from my website several years ago. Now, with the new WP core update, I am seeing that there are hundreds of Shield options set to autoload in the wp_options table.

Combing through the database one line at a time is proving to be far too time-consuming. I tried reinstalling Shield, setting it to delete components on deactivation, and then deactivating/deleting, but those options are all still there.

What is the best/easiest way to clean those options from the table, bearing in mind that Shield was uninstalled some time ago?

The gear top right corner to add ip it seems not working. I tried clicking it, it’s just not working.

I recently started using this plugin, it has a lot of great free features, especially the activity and traffic log. However, I noticed that while the youzify plugin is active, the activity log is showing bots: 404 when a user is accessing certain buddypress pages, but showing response 200 in the traffic log.

Was hoping to buy premium version of this plugin, but can’t really do that while it gives false 404 logs. Youzify is quite a popular buddypress plugin and I can’t deactivate the plugin. Any ideas on how I can prevent this?

I have a low volume store and had an order last night and wanted to see if I can find the customer in the activity log. I searched for the product page they bought, checkout, cart and the IP address listed in the order and the activity log comes up empty every time. I am a bit curious how the user was NOT logged and the log shows NO activity on any of those pages or the IP when clearly the pages HAD to have been hit and the IP HAD to have been in there. What gives? I can see MY activity and other activity.

I just tried to turn on the Rank Math SEO plugin’s “Auto Post Redirect” feature but was blocked by Shield. I tried to go in an “manage” the security rules but apparently that’s a premium feature. The Rank Math feature is described here: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-redirect-posts-after-changing-urls/ The block message showed a bunch of the .htaccess file so I assume that this Rank Math feature needs to edit the .htaccess file.

If I momentarily deactivate Shield, activate the Rank Math feature and then re-activate Shield, is it likely that the Rank Math feature will actually work or each time it tries to write to .htaccess will this get triggered again?

Hi there (Paul?), I installed the plugin yesterday and am really liking it so far.

I have a question that I hope you can help with before I upgrade. I had some issues with my website last night – I sell products at fixed times (using Woocommerce) and so most of my buyers login at the same time, though only around 30. My site went down with a gateway error multiple times which has never happened before.

On speaking to my host (WP Engine) they told me I have 1.6Mb of autoload data in the database and it needs to be under 0.8Mb. They identified Shield Security as having the most autoload data at 0.38Mb, so that’s nearly half of my limit used by one plugin.

Is this typical, or is there a way to reduce this? I really would like to stay with your plugin as it’s the most user-friendly I’ve found and doesn’t noticeably cause performance issues. Plus it shows me the kind of data I really appreciate (having moved from WP Cerber).

How do I disable scans and email notifications for a website that no longer exists? I have a client who took her website down but I am still getting weekly emails from Shield Security.

As it is seen in the screenshot, IP reputation of a “malicious bot” is low. Moreover, “Bad Bot Probability is 85%. Even though Shield Security suspected, the bot could register successfully. Could you advise me on how I configure the plugin to block such bots, please? The current settings are represented, as follows. Your recommendations would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Is it possible to delete all logs of “Activity” and “Site Traffic”? I am aware that we can specify a specific time (e.g. 7 day) to delete logs. But, can I delete such logs manually when I need?
