Hi,

After the major update of DarkElements last week I have updated theme again.

Unfortunately several changes that have been added lately may break your child theme and/or custom CSS. But to make this theme better, this is not something that can be avoided.

Most significant change:
Changed theme alignment from left to centre.
Nowadays most people use small screen devices, so centre alignment is better.

For users with a child theme:

• Have updated file header

For users with custom CSS:

• Changed class postmetadata into post-metadata
• Changed class postmetadata-bottom into post-metadata-bottom
• Changed class readmore into read-more

For all users:

• Changes are made in the stylesheet (CSS)
• If website doesn’t look as expected after theme update, clear your (browser) cache and reload the page

Rest assured, no more major updates in the (near) future!

Yes, another update after almost 2 years!

In last update of DarkElements I have included new settings in the Customizer:

• Display or hide site title and tagline
• Display header image at homepage only or throughout your website
• Display featured image on the single post page
• Set length of the post summary
• Change label of the Read More button and Mobile Menu button

For users with a child theme:

• Because of the new settings in the Customizer you may not even need a child theme anymore
• Files header and single: updated to include new settings from above
• File footer: removed whitespace and such

For users with custom CSS:

• Changes are made in the stylesheet (CSS)
• Most changes in the mobile stylesheet (to make website look better in small screen)

For all users:

• Changes are made in the stylesheet (CSS)
• If website doesn’t look as expected after theme update, clear your (browser) cache and reload the page

Theme works fine on mobile browser. On desktop it only fills half of the screen

For users with a DarkElements child theme or custom CSS. I have added/changed several CSS classes.

File functions:
Changed class widgettitle into widget-title widgettitle.
Old class widgettitle will be removed in the future.

File header:
Added class="site-title" to the logo H1.

File content-list:
Changed class entry-content into entry-content post-content.

File single:
Changed classes post-title-single entry-title into entry-title post-title.
Changed class entry-content into entry-content post-content.

File page:
Changed class entry-content-page into page-content.

You may have to update your child theme and/or your custom CSS.

Hi,

In last theme update I’ve removed Google font (Open Sans) because of the GDPR. DarkElements now uses system font Verdana instead.

You can easily add your own font with one of the plugins that are available for this, such as the Fonts Plugin.

Hi, Dark Elements is great – have been using it for several years, thanks! On the left sidebar, some of the text wraps and I’d prefer that it doesn’t. Is there a configuration option where I can make the sidebar wider or prevent the text wrap? Thanks.

For users with a DarkElements child theme:

Sometimes you cannot avoid updating template files. This time I have updated files header and footer.

File header: added code for new feature in Customizer (logo width). And added ID to several mobile menu elements.
File footer: added code for new feature in Customizer (add content to footer).

Those changes might have broken some of your customizations, I’m sorry for that. If you want help to fix it again please open a topic in support forum.

Hi I have only just realised that the mobile version menu has changed to a pretty much unstyled menu button. I am using a child theme but can’t figure out how to change it back to full width or is that how it is now.

I read your post but I dont know what to change.

About the recent DarkElements theme update:

Main reason for last update is to improve accessibility and better support for screen readers.

Because of this I had to change the CSS of main navigation. Mainly the CSS of submenu and mobile menu.

Those changes might have broken some of your CSS customizations, I’m sorry for that. If you want help to fix it again please open a topic in support forum.

For users with a child theme, I have updated file header. Added a skip-to-content link and changed the div with class “mobile-nav-toggle” into a button.

I have installed your Darkelements theme today and I love it.
There are however a few tweaks I would like to make to the theme. I hope you can help me.

1. I would like the page to center in the screen. When I now open the page (on desktop) the whole website is shown to the left. How can make in appear in the center?

2. I would like to change the color of the “higligted / selected” menu text.
It is now red but would love to change that.

So, a bit of a weird one. I am not sure how achievable it is.

I have 3 different websites which I would like to host under the same domain yet have their own navigation.

I was wondering if it was possible and if yes, how, to set up a simple homepage that would have 3 picture links on it and only that. Each of those links would take you to each website.

To be more specific, I own the domains ADgrimaldi.com and DTBDproductions.com and another one that expired called SAtraining.com

I’d like DTBDproductions to be the main domain and then have 3 as sub domains ADgrimaldi.dtbdproductions.com, production.dtbdproductions.com and footinthedoor.dtbdproductions.com

So when someone goes onto DTBDproductions.com they get a page with 3 picture links to those 3 subdomains and when they navigate on each of the website, they stay in that sub domain area.

Sorry if this isn’t clear, it’s not an easy one to explain.

I have a little problem. The menu in the sidebar does not work on pages. By that I mean the links are unresponsive. However from the homepage and categories/posts, it works fine.

Also, is there a way to freeze the sidebar when the scroll reaches the bottom of it?

I’m running Dark Elements 6.3 and the latest WP. I also use the “Easy Digital Downloads” plugin. Every works/looks fine, except the category of my products on the store won’t show. It just says “Category: “. It works fine for blog posts. Any ideas? I asked on the plugin page but their support is extremely limited. Thanks!

Is there a way I can change the font size for the menu. I would also like to reduce the space above/below menu items. Would actually like to remove lines between items.

About the recent DarkElements theme updates:

The last couple of months there where several theme updates to improve the quality of this theme. Lately there where many (minor) CSS changes regarding the width and floating of div elements.

When a div element contains floated child elements this div can collapse. In the past I resolved this collapsing by adding width and floating to this div, but using a so called clearfix is best practice. So that’s why I’ve removed the width and floating and added a clearfix instead.

Besides this I’ve restyled the mobile menu.

Those changes might have break some of your CSS customizations, I’m sorry for that. If you want help to fix it again please open a thread in support forum.

I’m not planning new theme updates anytime soon..

I am setting up a new page for or fanclub and we love the theme.
But I need to change the color of the main Title.
I am not an expert to CSS but I figured out hoe to change the rest so that it fits our wishes.
But for the main title I am totally lost.
Is there anyone who could help?

I like your theme DarkElements, but i need a second sidebar on the right side of my blog. Do you know a way to realize it? First of all: is it a theme or a WP probleme? Do I have to chance the PHP or the CSS code? Can you please help me how to install it?

My suggetion: it would be very comfortable if user could choose if they want no, one or two sidebars, because for me the right side apears empty, I can′t use the space for widgets for example.

I’m building a website, not a blog, and I need the header to show on every page. I was able to resize the header and upload the pic I need for the header, but it only shows on the home page. How do I get it to show on every page?

I’m building the site on my computer–it’s not uploaded anywhere yet till I get this fixed.

I really do like the theme and spent time tweaking some CSS customizations, then went to a post and discovered that there is no pagination between single posts.
Can this be added, please?

I’ve been trying to change the background color, and can’t for the life of me figure out how. I can see how to change the background color ( the one thats the lighter gray by default), but I can’t figure out how to change the color of the main body background (the one thats the darker, almost mottled gray that text is on). If you could help me figure out how to do that, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

This month I will update DarkElements theme, and add a fully new mobile navigation (navigation in mobile screen).

This means I will replace the (jquery) select menu with a dropdown (jquery) toggle menu.

If you’re using a child theme that contains file “header.php”, you should update this file after updating theme. Otherwise the new dropdown toggle menu won’t work. I have added some extra lines of code regarding the new menu in this file.

I do have a small issue I am hoping you might help with.

I need to know what the class ID for the primary navigation is? Im trying to use a sticky menu for mobile and it asks me for the class ID of the menu. I can not find this. I tried many names but nothing works.

Please can you tell me what you would put in the box they provide entitled “sticky class ID” I know it is supposed to look something like : #primary-navigation or similar. (I did try that one !)
