This theme used to receive regular updates which justified it’s yearly subscription fee AND it was awesome; scroll to the bottom of the promotion page for the product and you’ll see the “aim for an update each month“. In emails with support they have promised updates when emailing saying they are in development or will be released next month but this year we are 7 months into the subscription and not a single update. There hasn’t been a real update since Fall ’22. The team has moved on to other things and it’s about time we did too.

I am extremely happy with this theme. I up upgraded and I am not sorry. I’m satisfied with my ability to do what I want and costomize it to my desires. I’m also very satisfied with the support, and I’m surprised some of the reviewers have not been happy. I live on the east coast of the US so there is a time zone difference with support: it usually takes a few days for our back and forth email communication. However, they have ALWAYS worked with me to resolve issues, including giving me snippets of code to insert in the theme-which is very easy to do, just copy and paste into the customizer. I highly recommend you at least try the free version to see if it works for you!

I stumbled upon Make a few years ago – I wanted a beautiful website without the price tag of hiring a designer. I’m self-taught with websites, I love to learn, and love to be creative digitally.
It’s probably well into the 100’s by now – the number of emails back and forth between the team and I! It is a total no-brainer to me – the yearly fee for the support – the service I have received far outweighs the cost, it’s actually not even comparable – and the team has saved me so much time, energy, and not to mention the stress of trying to figure things out on my own.
My website is absolutely gorgeous, and the support service is literally unlike any other I’ve experienced, probably in my whole life, in any industry! The team is friendly yet professional, they get back to you SO fast, with easy/simple/quick solutions to whatever I’m needing to do with my site. Honestly – top-notch service and I can’t see myself going anywhere else. I can afford a site professionally done for me now – but why would I?! The Make Theme, and the team, has given me all I need.
HUGE thank you, you guys absolutely rock.

An aged, amateur non-profit webmaster here. I chose this theme back in 2014 because it seemed to offer the flexibility to design the site the way I want it. I am not impressed with recent website aesthetics. I hate sites where I can’t find what I want, where they are all barn and no hay–all pictures and no content.
If you want your site to look that way, you can do it on Make. If you want your site to be more old school you can do that too. Lots of choice to build the site of your dreams. I liked it so well, that our impecunious nonprofit bought the pro version.
Recently, I needed to change the styling for a project we are just finishing. For the life of me I could not get it to work. The pro support was awesome. In the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, the Make support helped me tweak the CSS until we got it exactly how I wanted it.
I think we all have become rather spoiled, expecting to get something for nothing. People need to eat so I am willing to pay for the service. If we want our code to keep up to date compared to the couple of plugins I have that have not been updated for years because the developers got bored and when on to something else. The Tooth Fairy does not write code.

I’m blown away by the generous and effective support that theme foundry has provided. Super accessible, laid back, and knowledgeable!

The theme is forcing its paid options in a way that it is repulsive.
It should be possible to remove any advertisement in order to free precious screen area.
The same holds for forcing the builder template as the default template, the user should be able to select the default template freely!. The above are just a couple of the paid version promotions which makes the theme inferior.
Other comments:
Trying to reclaim the default template “the WordPress way” I found out that the writer is using a proprietary mechanism to force the “make builder” default template and make it difficult to reclaim the standard page.php.
There is no Gutenberg support, just a nice button that let you change to Gutenberg and no more builder.
As for the built-in page-builder, there are much better plugins like Siteorigin and Elementor page-builders.

It’s an okay theme. It is supported by advertisements in the admin panel.

I used the free version for a client and she loved the outcome. It was easy to use and minimal. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a clean and lean theme.

Really enjoying the options on Make and, as soon as I have some more pages built, considering Make Plus for the extra goodies. Creators are very responsive and so far, this is the best theme I’ve ever used. Looking forward to continuing to grow and see what else this baby has to offer!

Very easy to use with just the right amount of customisation available. Not bloated, like so many other premium themes, with myriad options and not dependant on a visual editor which pollutes all your content with shortcodes.

Very easy to use, a large choice of customization and flexible.

Really anything less than 5 stars seems ridiculous, given what functionality most theme authors give you. This theme doesn’t try to shoehorn you into a design. It does what it should: get out of the way and let the developer design.
Thanks Theme Foundry!

I was fooled by the hype on the website, and the review by Chris Lema.
Make is a novel idea to start, it uses a basic theme, and a plug-in (for the Make Plus edition). The claim is that it clean code and doesn’t deal with all the nasty overhead of the clunky visual builders. It also sells itself a small business friendly theme. Nice idea, in concept…
Unfortunately that’s where it stops.
You need to do all of you customization through the CSS panel, and the basic options that are available are really not that relevant. For example the “white label” feature is simply a checkbox that shows/hides the text, not actually an option to replace the text with something more pertinent. As a result you need to create you own code, and then find yourself with two lines in your footer, one that’s left aligned for the code that you wrote, and one that’s right aligned for the social icons.
Even things liked padding, margins, etc… need to be manually coded in, which, in this day and age should be easily controlled through the customizer (a native device of WordPress), and without having to rely on clunky GUIs.
The support has also been less than great. Direct questions have not been directly answered (“Do you have documentation that shows me what classes affect what parts of the layout? Ideally in a visual form.”), and have resulted in just pointing to WordPress information, and mentioning that it’s 100% compliant.
To me, this ultimately comes down to misrepresentation and a basic misunderstanding of their customer base. They claim that it’s a small business friendly theme, but I don’t know many small businesses that have an excess of time to figure out how to customize the website. Sure, for web development shops it might be interesting, but for most SMBs they are so slammed for time that when presented between Make vs. Barebones WordPress vs. Squarespace (or the likes) the answer does not land in the favor of Make.
I’m more than happy to revise my 1 star if I’m given a good reason to do so.

I have used many-many themes before, but I absolutely fell in love in the first 1 hour working with it. I wish I could found it earlier! Easy going, fast! step by step building with no complications, really doing what I want, having any customizations that are needed until not using the plus-version.

I love being able to access most features on the customize panel instead of 5 layers in.
Can Make be used on WordPress.com sites? I have a friend I’d like to help, but they are not hosted.

I just used it for my client.

I activated the theme on a new site and all was well until I used the customize page. Within 5 minutes style.css was no longer getting called. Deleted it and reinstalled and the same thing happened again. Updated from WP 4.4.3 to the latest version, no change. Switched to other installed themes and there was no issue with them.
So without doubt, there’s something fundamental wrong with this theme and I can’t recommend it when there are so many other themes that work fine.

Theme is a lot more difficult to get up and running than I thought it would be. I tried following the support documents and without a good and fairly deep understanding of site design and terminology, getting up and running will be difficult. I made the mistake of purchasing the $99 plug-in that goes along with the theme based on the The Theme Foundry’s testimony on how easy the theme was to to configure and deploy. It was a total and complete ripoff!

I use make theme and love it, it is easy to edit with the layout builder ou with the code editor. It is beauty and the forum is great!

Appreciated the assistance in getting things set up, since I was very much a beginner at the time. Fantastic, personal, authentic support.

When operating this tool to create a theme it is it is not much you can achieve with this “free” version. Rather, this is an advertisement to purchase plus or pro.

Theme is easy to use and easy to keep a site up-to-date with. We Use the Free version currently but may look at upgrading to Make Plus in the future.

I am crazy about Make. Clean, customizable, linear, divine. So refreshing in comparison to other bloated, counter-intuitive themes out there….

This is one of the best free “starter” themes I’ve come across. It’s coded well, is feature-rich without bloat and looks fantastic. I usually build my themes from scratch, but when I don’t I find myself using Make often. It’s one of my favorites and the fact it’s free is incredible.

I love to work with the MAKE- theme!
Of course if many things can be adjusted, it takes a while to work yourself through it…
But a unique and personalized website is the result!
Also the support is extremely helpful!
And last but not least it is for free!

I’ve been very pleased with the Make theme. I’m using it on three very different websites, with three very different looks and functions, to a great result.
What I like most about working with Make is how well commented and documented the theme is. For a developer, this is a dream. It allows me a stable, beautiful launchpad, and lets me focus on customizing every little detail of the look and feel without having to get rid of a million UI images, rework color schemes, and so forth. A great jumping off point – similar to genesis and headway in its versatility. The best things about Make? Great support, the lightweight, valid code and free price tag.

I wish that I could edit my original review below, or just delete it. I had some major frustrations that have been worked out by the lovely staff at Theme Foundry. I went from loving the Make theme to being disappointed and now Im back to loving it!
It simply is an amazing theme once you play around in the customizer, it looks great with the colour scheme and the builder templates are great!

Why does the screen grab look nothing like the preview website? I was impressed with the screen grab and then let down once I viewed the preview.
