Works great except for home page slider (3 stars)

I really love this theme! My only problem is with the Home Page Slider. For the 3 Slides Style, when the link/title text is short, all of the text on the image slide is not centered. Also, for the Single Slide Style, I cannot figure out how to hide the excerpt/blog text so only the link/title text is displayed. Other than that, the theme is great.

No matter what I do I can’t get rid of the black bar across the top when accessing on a mobile phone. It covers the menu as well as the site name. I believe it’s the wordpress bar? or.. not sure but I’ve been playing with it all night and can not seem to resolve it.
Also, at the bottom of the pages it says ‘pages’ for some reason. Ive had this site for about 3 years and not had this issue before.
