One of the problems with OneDot is that in fact, it has both a header and a slider, which only becomes apparent when you try to use this theme. The slider shows up if you add a featured image to a post, because the same featured image gets thrown onto the slider which then appears, linked directly to that post. (But the slider has a dark overlay that can’t be removed; and the slider doesn’t show up in the customizer at all, so nothing can be done to “customize” it.)
Then there’s the sliding header, I guess that’s the “banner”. That’s a separate issue, and I spent hours uploading and auto-cropping images for this full-width header banner, which rotates the images randomly…. when suddenly, this feature no longer works anymore. I just tried to add a couple of new images, and NOW it wants to CROP the header by about half the width of the original batch of headers — no explaining this anomaly. This even defies the fact that they tell you up top that the standard best image should be 1920 pixels wide! Now, it wants to chop that down by half! So, no more header images can be added due to this surprise error… on top of being unable to locate any means to disable the black overlay.
Anyway, OneDot/BlogBell is one giant PIA.
]]>Hello. By accident, I found out about the slider header linked to the posts, great idea, just what I needed. And the general site image header continues to work, and we can add slides and randomize, just what I want. However, the overlay is nearly BLACK and wipes out the flower images for my gardening theme. I cannot find any way to lighten up that overlay.
I cannot find any way to remove the word “Blog” from the overlay.
Just looked at BlogBell, that you would like to sell, wondering if maybe buying it would buy the answers to these problems. But, guess what, I would have to RE-DO my entire web site to switch from OneDot to BlogBell, which is NOT compatible with OneDot already installed along with all my slider headers and theme headers. Not very thoughtful of your potential market. If we were to upgrade to your paid theme, at LEAST, it should perfectly integrate with all the settings and headers we have already selected in OneDot, and not expect us to start over again from scratch to design our web site!
Since I cannot PUBLISH my web site with most headers blacked out, and the word “Blog” all over the place, I will have to re-design anyway, by looking for another wordpress theme.
Thanks for the total waste of my time.
]]>Hello.
Desperate to lighten up the default dark overlay on the header images.
Desperate to edit the word “Blog” on the header overlay.
Can’t find any way to do either. Not in styles, not in functions. Please help! ASAP. Thank you.
]]>Hello.
OneDot is an interesting theme I’m trying to use for my mother’s gardening web site. However, there are issues with it, and it would be great to be able to fix them. My site is currently in staging, not online as yet.
1. My mother’s gardening journal in pdf format is hosted at scribd. However, the scribd embed codes don’t work in OneDot. They do work in Twenty Seventeen on wordpress.com.
2. OneDot features an image slider for the header, with a dark overlay. Sometimes the overlay is very dark, sometimes it’s light. Can’t find the page of theme code where this could be adjusted. I’d like to be able to specify the color and transparency level of the overlay.
3. By default, the post titles appear in the middle of a random header image. (1) I’d like to be able to link a particular header image to the post. Otherwise, a post about a particular plant is showing an image of a different plant, misleading to the reader. (2) I’d like to nonetheless also have additional images in the header slider that are not linked to any particular post or page, but the label on the center of the image should “stick” to that image, so I can use it to name the plant in the image.
4. Default widget titles are larger than widget titles we add, ourselves. Changing the header tags in the default widget titles reduces their size, but they still are not the same size as the widget header titles we insert ourselves. It would be nice to have all the same size and consistent.
Thanks for your time.`
