503 and the usual methods don’t work. HELP please

We have tried EVERYTHING. Staging site, even another site in another account (same host though ) Flipping off all the plugins, switching to a default theme. Resaving permalinks. Replacing htaccess. Repair and optimizing the database and deleting anything pertaining to no longer used plugins. I even tried disabling Wordfence and Mod Security.
We have nonstop json errors, and console often says stuff like this is blocked, even when not getting an overall 503. wp-json/wp/v2/ or admin-ajax are throwing 503. I feel these might be ‘blocked’ by something on the server, but won’t get any help from hosting unless we can give details on where to look, and that is just a guess because I can’t find anything in WordPress itself to cause it.

I’ve found nothing especially useful in the search engines as it just redirects me to the ‘beginner’ steps I’ve already tried. So I desperately hope someone here has an idea.

503 errors from uptime monitoring sites

I’ve started getting alerts from uptime monitors to say my site is down after using WP-Optimize tools. However, the site is actually up and running. I’m a newbie to these kind of things so could it be from something I’ve set with the tool that is now causing these monitors to send these alerts? E.g. can WP-Optimize cause 503 errors?

I have been having problems with 503 errors where a plugin has been using the server’s memory (I.E inodes) the hosting company believes it is the CleanTalk malware scanner. Has something changed so that it is using more resources? Why would a Malware scanner use more resources on the server now?

Over the last couple of days I’ve had some notifications my website has gone offline via Jetpack. However, they’ve stopped and am now finding that trying to crawl my website is throwing up 503 errors. Even using google webmaster and using the fetch comes back as temporarily unavailable. Submitting a sitemap also won’t work.

I deactivated Wordfence and managed to get a positive result for crawling the website so I’m trying to understand why wordfence appears to be preventing these actions. I’m not technically savvy so be kind. Since reactivating wordfence the problem comes back.
I’m on WordPress 4.9.8 and wordfence 7.1.18

Brute Force Apache Log 503 Errors w/ Wordfence

A few of my websites are being brute forced from time to time. Wordfence is doing a good job at blocking the IP, but what I’m seeing is that the IP address continues to hit the wp-login.php page and generates 503 errors in the Apache logs roughly every second. While this is taking place my server’s resource utilization shoots through the roof and it begins to cause OOM errors and dropping of services. When I block the offending IP (the one generating the 503 errors) in the server’s firewall, the server’s load reverts to normal and all is well again.

Question: When Wordfence blocks an IP for brute forcing against the wp-login.php page does it serve up 503 errors to said IP?

I’ve spoken with my server’s support techs on several occasions and they are recommending that I block bots and attempt to hide the wp-login.php file by moving it to a different location.

Any insights would be extremely helpful, thank you.

Plugin not working

Hi I’m getting this error
Warning: file_get_contents(https://finance.google.com/finance?q=STOB&output=json): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.0 503 Service Unavailable

HAs the plugin stopped working.

Also trying yahoo does not appear to change it to Yahoo but keeps it on Google

Worwordfence generating huge amount of 503 errors

since last week I have been trying to solve an issue in my 2 wordpress blogs: Google search console showing a huge increase of 503 errors – 2100 in the newest site and 9000 in the oldest one (has more content) and being unable to reach my sitemaps what is having the effect that many of my posts stopped being indexed. With my hosting support I did troubleshoot possible causes and after a long time of tests yesterday, they told me that found no reason from their part to this issue. So, I decided to deactivate all plugins and test one by one, on Google search console, and sent my sitemap again everytime. And after that, I found that there’s no doubt the culprit is wordfence. After deactivating it Google had no problems in accessing my sitemaps. Now, wordfence is too much important to my sites’s security to just let go of it. So, please, is there a way to fix the problem I did report? perhaps deactivating some options? Because it is a big problem. Google has been reporting, since May but increasing in June and getting worse on July and this month, the URLs that could not fetch on the sites, what represents a decrease in about 1000 visits in one of the sites and 500 in the newest site. I want to keep my visits on the normal pattern and also want to keep Wordfence. So, I appreciate some help. Thanks

wordfence causing 500 and 503 errors

I wish to thank Wafalla, the wordfence author for his answer to my problem. Because i have managed wordpress, I wasn’t able to put the sites on temporary debug mode so i asked my hosting support team to do it for me. And they found nothing, at the debug logs that could explain why, exactly when i activate wordfence, at least half of my HTTP go down, as seen at host-tracker and this on an intermittent way, that is, in one minute they are up, in the second they are down and go unstable all the time. So, the facts are these: deactivating all plugins , my sites are up with no issues; activating wordfence, the problem begins; deactivating it again, both sites are ok. None of the other plugins I have made this effect although there is some trouble also with Jetpack because comments don’t publish getting a 404 error and neither related posts. the fact is, since the last wordpress update, the sites stopped from working normally like before. And no one finds a cause to explain why I can’t install wordfence, my preferred plugin, not counting with Jetpack, that is a full pack of functions. My hosting says that finds nothing in their logs that could create this on their part. And if the debug doesn’t show any error connected with the plugin should i conclude that this effect has no cause?! There must be a condition that creates this effect. If someone can explain it, would be awesome . Thanks

Starting yesterday I’m getting 2 new warnings when I do a back up:

[WARNING] (503) Your app is making too many requests and is being rate limited. 503s can trigger on a per-app or per-user basis. Wait for 1 seconds.

and secondly;

[ERROR] DropBox API: (52) Empty reply from server

It still shows the backup gets transferred at the bottom, but wondering if there’s something I need to fix ? I haven’t noticed any 503 errors on my site.

503 error when upgrading to 2.3.1 using WSFTP

I am using WSFTP to upload the new 2.3.1 files to my website on Godaddy.com. As I go through the files and send them from my PC to Godaddy, a lot of files error out with a 503 error and fail. Of course then it’s hit or miss if I can load the site and if I CAN load it, when I go to login as admin, I get a string error.

I can’t figure out how to send feedback from my dashboard as I am new at this. It’s frustrating as hell not having an automated way to upgrade only what should and needs to be upgraded.

Can anyone tell me what the 503 error is, why I am getting it and what I should do about it?
