we have recently updated our WordPress site from 3.very_low_number to the most recent version, 4.3.1.
After that, some plugins had to be updated as well, also the NextGenGallery, so we updated to the latest version, 2.1.15. We have a custom theme.
Now, when we use the green button in a post, in the TinyMCE editor, everything seems to work out fine…popup window with options asked, and after that shortcode is pasted in the content box.
But this shortcode does nothing apart from displaying a single Image. The shortcode looks like this:
[ ngg_images gallery_ids=”29″ display_type=”something”, then a link to an image, which is probably the displayed thumbnail ]
(I can’t remember it correctly)
The same problem is described here:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/localhost-attach-to-post-not-adding-gallery-just-a-preview-image?replies=3
We have about 900 galleries, so I had to get them running again quickly. So I installed an old version, 1.9.6.
Now we cannot attach a gallery to a post any more conveniently in the Editor, but we can write [ nggallery id=”8″ ], in the old shortcode format, and this works and displays thumbnails as before.
The old shortcode did not work any more with the 2.1.15 version.
So, what is there to be done?
I’ve checked many forum postings, here, on stackoverflow, and elsewhere, but found no solution.
If the new version of the NgGallery does not work in a theme that had no problem with the old version, maybe there is some kind of checklist for themes to be compatible with the new version?
Thanks a lot,
Gerdski

Upload problem:
The problem is with the upload. I can upload 1 image and have no problems, except I don’t get any ‘Upload complete’ message. But the image loads to 100% and can be found in the gallery I created.
If I upload more images at once only one of them gets uploaded. Then it stops uploading and doesn’t complete the rest.
Uploading zip-file seems to work. But I still get no ‘Upload complete’ message.
Insert to post problem:
Next problems comes when trying to insert into post.
When I click on the green ‘attach to post’ symbol i only get a blank window.
I can get it work though if I use the short codes..

I am using NextGEN Gallery 2.0.33 (updated to V2.0.40 but the Sidebar was pushed to the bottom of the page, so reverted back to 2.0.33), WordPress Simple Paypal Shopping Cart v3.9.2, Runway Theme using Genesis Framework.
Thank you for your help!

Site was installed in a subdirectory, “wordpress” with matching WordPress and Site URLS. Taken live by modifying htaccess, index and site URL accordingly. I have preformed this action quite frequently, I can verify it was done correctly. Galleries, settings and all admin sub-menus as part of the added gallery menu work fine.
Attach to Post brings up a window with just the NextGEN branding. Looking at the source, it gets to the unordered list but dies when processing $tabs. A dump reveals $tabs is empty.
Reverting the Site URL (to include the trailing wordpress) corrects the issue.

]]>Tried to edit a page. When I click on the “attach to post” button, then I see the new interface but when I save, then I don’t see the expected shortcode but just an image. Changing to HTML view it looks like this:
<img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” alt=”” src=”https://koenig-haunstetten.de/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–4351″ />
Even tried to enter shortcode according to documentation by hand, doesn’t work either, page is just showing the shortcode.

I have another site that is still using 2.0.33 and shows none of those problems, but my main site is not showing any galleries any more.
How can I solve this?

]]>Firstly – with the previous version ALL the sites where I use NGG the “Attach to Post” button worked fine. Now with at least a couple sites it just shows a blank box. At my NGG test site this still works, so most probably yet another plugin conflict. I do not have time in next couple of days to explore what plugin it might be – luckily legacy shortcodes and the user side still work
Secondly – and this has been a problem I just realised today is to do with really long file names in gallery/..mygallery/dynamic/ image names which NGG 2.0 has generated. The actual problem here is that my regular automated full-site backup does not allow long names due to TAR packaging method limitation. Using zip this may work, but the backup files become much larger and the backup process will take a really, really long time.
Any ideas how fix this or find a workaround? Full automated backup is an absolute must for sites like mine having a few thousand images managed by NGG!
